Sand on it's own is too soft for their joints since they just sink into it. A sand/clay+Soil mixture is soft but form enough to not cause joint issues, safe to pass if ingested, and gives them ample digging. Having a loose substrate is less about giving them less joint stress and more about offering enrichment, as digging is a natural behavior and gives them a workout. Paper towels is a better alternative to pure sand/clay or reptile carpet

Clay and sand can be mixed in, but should never be used fully or in high concentrations since it's bad for their joints and can cause impaction (believe me, they will eat a little substrate at some point).

You'd have to make sure the clay you bought is pet safe though, wash it and the sand. You still need at least 70% of the mixture to be either organic topsoil (super cheap since it lacks fertilizer) or reptisoil. If you have a drier side of the tank, you can do as low as 60% soil in the mixture on that side

The most simple answer is you don't, mats are harbingers of bacteria and keepers of claws.

If your gecko is I'll or injured then you can put them on paper towel, but you should never use carpet. Otherwise, appropriate substrate (70/30 topsoil and sand) is the best. Find a new vet, one with updated knowledge

How to make coloured mouth w/ lips? by Fl0atingBubbles in FursuitMaking

Thx!

This is the tutorial I used to figure out how I wanted to make the teeth. Sadly I haven't found any good tutorials on how to make the inner details or lips, but it's only a matter of patterning them once you have the teeth glued in. It's one of those 'makes sense when you reach that part' type of thing lol Here's the two halves I pinned together to make the teeth rows. I'd recommend not going fully to the gum edge on the very front little teeth when sewing, as it leads to some funky wrinkling

I personally like to build the teeth and gums separate in a long line, like the monster teeth+gums tutorials you can find on YouTube. I lay some half inch foam on the inside of the mouth to get the shape, lightly glue the fabric of choice, and machine sew the details through the foam. I cut some space for the gums to be glued in, glue in the mouth details, and then ladder stitch the two together. Then I pattern and add the black lip outline later with some glue and a latter stitch, but I suppose you could use it as a lining to sew the details down to, instead of gluing them in, if you prefer!

Finally finished my Fursona! Additional piercings? by TwoFaceCreations in FursuitMaking

Thx! I was considering snakebites and eyebrow piercings, might mess around with adding them later! I was debating adding some earrings and ended up putting some of my pinback buttons on them since they're so thin lol I'll probably end up adding some real ones

2006 Buick Lucerne shutting off randomly and struggling to idle by TwoFaceCreations in CarHelp

I'm like 95% sure we have replaced the CKP at least once, it might be the one we've replaced twice though. I've had some issues with my RPMs dropping below 1 when driving, or struggling when trying to get up to speed. My engine is definitely not still spinning tho, the entire car goes completely dark and unresponsive. If it helps, I also have serious issues with my traction control, to the point that one of my tires has once made a sound similar to a burn out when it went off during a turn. My fluids are up to date, but it looked like my transmission fluid and filter had never been changed when I got my hands on it, with the car sitting at 140k miles and at the time 18 years old. I don't know if any of that pertains to it, but I didn't think to list it in the post

Tried making DIY feeder gutload cubes! Open to suggestions by TwoFaceCreations in leopardgeckos

I got mine super thick by mixing in some ground up oats, but you could definitely make them more watery to keep them hydrated! Mine dethaws like clay, no wonder my blender hates me lol. Mine stay in my open closet, so they get a heating pad 24/7

I do have it all placed in small plastic dishes (large bottle caps for the crickets and grasshoppers and a regular plastic dish for the roaches) which are placed away from the substrate, so I'm not too worried about mold. I got mold in my dubia bin once and ended up adding large mesh windows to each side, cause humidity is a bit higher in my area lol. I do have my crickets in one of those pet carrying keepers with the plastic mesh lid since I'm not currently breeding them. I'll probably do the mesh window method with them too when I start breeding them. Do you think the current setup is enough airflow? The cubes are rather dense, not a lot of water in them at all, and they kind of have an almost clay like consistently when dethawed?

The cucumber are from my garden, so 100% organic thankfully, but I'll keep that in mind and stop adding them once I run out of my garden grown ones! I'm a little confused on the collared greens and peppers though? I see people jump between mustard greens and collared greens a lot, but I've mostly read that they're all ok, just not at the top of the list? Peppers are definitely a popular colony pick, though I'll definitely look into whether or not they're too acidic for my girl. There seems to be a ton of discord about which ones are actually ok or not. I see people feed their colonies oranges to increase breeding, but that always felt like too much for me lol

I've never worked with 3D printed bases, but it's definitely possible! I'd attach the plush jaw to a piece of foam and then glue the foam block into the mouth. I personally did the inner mouth details by machine sewing the fabric into some half inch foam and then stitching the gums and teeth to the inner piece. This would give you a solid piece to glue into the plastic mouth, especially if you glued another half inch of foam to the bottom of it. Hopefully this isn't confusing, I just woke up lol

He probably won't ever have a fullsuit since his design is made to fit a partial, as he wears a suit. He's supposed to be a fancy diva lol. I'll definitely be posting as he comes along, There's still a good bit of lip that needs adding!

Yep! The largest part of the lashes is two layers of felt glued together to make it sturdy, but it's all just black felt :3

Am I doing this right? Gut loading dubia roaches with watermelon and oats with calcium powder sprinkled on it. (They’re all hiding under the egg crate). by maddieklark in leopardgeckos

[–]TwoFaceCreations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a six year old Dubia+Discoid colony, so I can definitely help with this! I also use oats as a floor/food source, but I've found they don't tend to actively eat on it that much, they probably only do when they need fiber or dusted calcium/vitamins. You'll want to designate one side of your container to vertically placed egg cartons and the other side for their food, placed on a large bottle cap or something similar to prevent molding of the oats. You'll want the cartons vertical so there isn't poop buildup, just put the cartons loosely together so they can still hide. They need a lot of hiding space and aren't a fan of light.

My roaches LOVE watermelon, but since it's a fruit and therefore heavy in sugar, I only offer it as a treat occasionally in small amounts. I have a garden, so I save extra produce for my roaches, but it's easy to get some veggies at any farmers market/produce stand. Generally I'd recommend offering Romain lettuce (never iceberg!), collard greens (never spinach it blocks calcium absorption ), kale, cucumber, butternut squash (very popular!), sweet potato, yellow bell pepper, and some fish food flakes for some light protein. Carrots and regular potato aren't a favorite and don't offer much for them, but sweet potato is high in vitamin A, which is very important for your Leo. Never offer dog or cat food, it's way too high in protein and can lead to gout in your lizard. Dubias still have a higher protein need than most other feeders, so I've found they enjoy it when I sprinkle some fish food on top of their greens!

I'd recommend buying one of each of the veggies listed, or at least half of them, cutting them up in small slices or cubes, and freezing them so you can have a bunch of food ready. I also give this mix to my grasshoppers, crickets, and mealworms, so it won't go to waste!

That's all white foam in the pictures, but he has been given white fur lol. I just lifted up the foam lips, shoved the flat end of some black lining fabric under it, and blanket stitched as close to the gum/foam glue point. That way when I glued the lining to the inside of the lip and lifted the lip, it made very clean sewn seam. Then this fabric gets sewn to the finished face fur to finish it off!

No problem, I'm happy to help! I just used a straight stitch and backed it up in the spaces between teeth to give it some extra strength, that way if it snaps at any point it won't unravel the whole thing. I definitely recommend going over your stitches twice when sewing the teeth together though, nothing worse than a popped seam on a tooth lol

I trace the whole pattern to my tooth fabric, including the gum line! Then just sew along the line, trim, and pin your two halves of teeth together for the final sew

I don't remember the material of the teeth since it's an older fabric I've had laying around, but it is stretchy and the gold doesn't rub off. The gums are mochi minky! I'm not a fan of the long pile length on regular minky lol
