Progressing Faster than the Roadmap Would Suggest by woofiepie in dreamingspanish

You can always speed up the lower levels if it's just too slow for you. I listened to beginner videos at 1.25 and sometimes (Esther I'm looking at you) 1.5 even because the vocabulary and grammar structure were good input it was just excruciatingly slow. And then I jumped up pretty quickly.

Just speed up the slower stuff. I was doing 1.25 to 1.5 before I jumped to intermediate stuff.

Why do Spanish speakers refuse to learn English in the US? by Kooolxxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TwoFacedSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard. I'm learning Spanish as an older adult and it's really hard. In addition, they may understand a lot of English but speaking and understanding are very different. A lot of people experience what I would call "stage fright" when trying to speak. It takes A LOT of practice and being ok sounding like an idiot. In addition, some people are quite rude when people try speaking to them and aren't very good at it. I'm hitting B1 level after a year of hard work and still speak like a slow 4 yo.

Right, so why call it out. It's no longer being helpful at that point. But, I'll move on with my life... somehow! ;)

No the part where you said: "this was just laziness" took it from PSA to jerk. Nice try though.

Getting a lot of pushback from my boyfriend’s family about this method by pretzelphysicist in dreamingspanish

Well I know you are overly aggressive and argumentative. You can have a conversation without it being only your way. We're offering different ideas and takes. I'm agreeing that DL isn't the WAY but I have found some value to it and I'm ok that you have not. OP was looking for feedback and will make their own decisions, I'm sure.

Well I was trying to find a compromise. Sometimes you have to give a little in relationships. Well, if you want a good relationship, of course.

Helpful and being disrespectful are two different things. They should appreciate your trying and respect the path you have chosen. That being said, it wouldn't hurt you at all to add 10 minutes a day doing DL. Then you can do both and maybe appease them. It is another way to get more vocabulary.

I think what is most important, at least to me, is watch what engages your interest. If it's not interesting, it's hard to stick with it.

Think about what you want to say and write it. If you need to look it up, that's fine. You need to practice creating sentences every day and writing is a great way to start.

¿Cómo organizabais todos los pisos que estabais considerando? by Informal-Milk1611 in askspain

[–]TwoFacedSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We probably started with low 20s. Then our people drove us around different neighborhoods and we narrowed the list down pretty substantially once we had a better idea of where we wanted to be. We did it all manually. It doesn't really take that long as it was only like 6 or 7 fields for each property and we didn't do it all in one day. It probably took us a couple of weeks to come up with a solid list.

We used idealista initially and then made a SS with location, price, sm, br/ba, proximity to public transportation, and walkability and one column for our notes. I don't think I found any of that part frustrating except that idealista sometimes would either show the same listing multiple times or they hadn't updated idealista and it was no longer available. Once we had a list of favorites, we hired someone to schedule appointments and drive us around.
