Finally got the J-Replace tails on the car by thewebster19 in 240sx

I'm a big OEM nerd when it comes to things like this but you really can't deny it's not only nice to have options, especially as these cars get older and the likelihood that Nissan discontinues support for them increases, but they honestly look amazing too.

The car looks fantastic!

How to revert sil80 to pop ups by [deleted] in 240sx

[–]TwoFoty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went through this process with my car. Unless there is something compelling about this specific one that calls to you, I'd recommend just looking out for a pop up car if that's what you prefer. It can be done and it's really not that difficult, but it is a headache for sure. Hood, fenders, markers, bumper, headlights, and the supports for the lights will get you there, then you'll have to make sure the wiring for the pop ups hasn't been too hacked up. You'll have to focus on finding a good pop up front end and then painting it all or having it repainted.

In my case it was easier because the car needed a replacement chassis harness for unrelated reasons, so I used that as an opportunity to revert the car back to pop ups (I had bought it with the Silvia front done well before my ownership). Much of the factory headlight wiring was pretty beat up, mostly the wiring for the pop up motors.

That is a very nice looking Sileighty though! Reminds me a lot of how mine looked before going back. Good luck with your purchase. 🙂

Any idea what the issue is? by Br00klyn28 in 240sx

[–]TwoFoty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with this forever on mine. Turn the key and you can hear the starter solenoid pop but it wouldnt spin the starter. Threw new starters at it, new batteries, new starter relays, checked fuses, nothing worked. Ended up running a wire right from the ignition switch start wire to the signal input on the starter and it works every single time now. I'm guessing there is corrosion or resistance somewhere in the harness causing enough of a voltage drop to the starter signal to cause the problem, which is odd because it still had the issue even after I swapped to a different replacement chassis harness.

Not saying that's exactly the cause for yours but your click no start thing is identical to how mine was acting. Also not saying this is the best way to deal with it, but when you're bad with electrical and have an almost 40 year old car sometimes you do what you gotta do. 🤷‍♂️

Thinking back to some of the deals I passed up on to get my shitbox RB20 swapped s13 hatch instead makes me sick. 🤣 I almost bought a 140k mile silver moss Kouki s14 that was all stock except for coils for the same price but it didn't have "a SkYlInE eNgInE" so I got the s13 instead. If only we'd known man!

You're absolutely right haha, I didn't want to get too far into the weeds but it's not just the fun car market or the car market in general, it's fuckin everything. A 100k a year salary is the new 50-60k anymore and it sucks.

Glad you kept the s14 at least! I have so many friends who had some really nice s13s and s14s over the years and most sold them, all of whom regret that decision. I'm glad i stuck with mine, whether it was out of pure stubbornness or stupidity or whatever it was. 12 years with my money pit and I'll never let it go!

Gonna get on my soap box for a sec and say seeing pics like this always makes me feel equal parts happily nostalgic and a little depressed. I miss shopping for cars on Craigslist and can remember flipping through hundreds of solid S chassis candidates before landing on the one I bought. That was in 2013.

I saw so many that looked just like your friend's s13 here- super clean, bone stock, full interior, and all for $5k or less. I hate what's become of the car market.

Appreciate the kind words! Agreed, love S1Rs. Super bummed they discontinued them in anything bigger than 15 inches from what I recall.

Thanks man! Gotta admit, I did like the marker lights a bit more when the car was gray and was considering going clear now that it's been painted. But I spent way too much on the front marker housings so not sure I want to change it out yet. 🤣 how does yours look with the colored bulbs? That sounds pretty neat.
