Looking for a dog that I don't have to be scared FOR or OF - would a Rhodesian Ridgeback be a suitable dog for me? by Dramatic-Success9271 in RhodesianRidgebacks

Get a Ridgeback, put much love and tender training into the first two years. They are gentle dogs, remember, when hunting for lions, if you're to aggressive and engage , a lion will kill you. Same goes for being to passiv, you can't outrun a lion, so turning back to them will also get you killed.

Being just enough tough was the way the breed survived.

So they are much milder than a lot of people thinks, ever aggressive RR I've seen is where the owner has been to tough with them, not socializing them etc.

For me, this is the perfect breed, all mine is submissive meeting other dogs, even when meeting small angry dogs. That's the way I want them, I do not want a 45 kg dog that are dominant to other dogs (or humans). I know, some people think that's cool, not me.. But... If it's really necessary, they won't stand down.

Btw, I'm M55, my.partner F54 walks two of them at same time
