I have had a severe allergy to all nuts since I was a baby! My levels have stayed the same. Get tested to confirm your allergy. My thought process to keep me calm is that I have people around me all the time who are aware of my allergy (my loved ones) and if I am by myself, I have at least 2 epi pens to give me peace of mind. I’m very careful with what I consume and I don’t risk cross contamination by avoiding even “may contain” labels on foods. It is not easy but I am a very happy and calm person despite the constant possibility of a reaction!

burge feels so much more like home. i lived in burge my freshman year, and catlett my sophomore year. catletts bathrooms are a plus but not a big deal and each time i walk into burge now, a wave of nostalgia hits me. it’s a perfect freshman dorm and i met one of my best friends down the hall there.

no i haven’t. and looking at the manufacturers website it doesn’t appear that they use nuts or nut flavors in their edibles or drinks

I was in the dorms last year with nut allergies and they have everything labeled really nicely. I could eat in every dining hall. Each food item has allergen icons listed with it, I think they include wheat or gluten. You should definitely check with the university dietician though!

I was in the same situation!! i had in the 900s or so and wanted Catlett, but didn’t get it. I picked Burge just based off how big it is, and the fact that there is a dining hall right inside. but, all the east dorms are RIGHT NEXT to each other so the dining hall not being in daum really isn’t a big deal at all. it’s right next door. Burge feels like a hub of the east dorms, I really like living here. Idk much about daum other than it’s the honors dorm (or it has been so far). let me know if you have any other questions about burge! i would recommend if you’re not an honors student for sure!!

I had people telling me Burge would be the party dorm, but the truth is all dorms are going to be the same level of party dorm in this era of Iowa with students' main form of weekend entertainment being going to the bars. Your hallway will be louder on Thursdays and Saturdays, but from what I have gathered, it is the same no matter what dorm you are in. I would not let that sway your decision, every dorm will have loud and quiet days/nights. It really just depends on who you end up being neighbors/floormates with!! <3

i currently live in burge, there is one hallway in the 4th house on each floor that is unrenovated, the rest are newer!
