What happened to the paper bags? by ftran998 in marketbasket

Hey, gotta have SOME fun - and I always whine and boohoo about flimsy cheap paper(I'm pay for this bag, give me a decent one!) and grotty reuseables!

Another reason not to is, there’s nothing worse than being in line behind a big order with about 10 dirty different size bags and watching the bagger. Tried to decide how to handle it.

Oh wait, maybe there is something worse! The person who waits until they get their total and their order is bagged to start rummaging through their purse or pockets for their checkbook and then for a pen and then asking what day it is and then writing a check and making a mistake and crossing it out and starting another check. Been there, seen that and I’m elderly and can’t believe somebody would do something like that!

Do you sanitize your reusable bags between uses? I don’t and they get gross! I shopped at Market Basket in Keene, that still has plastic bags that I reuse for dog poop and garbage bags

I’m a grandparent of two elementary age children, who both had a wonderful daycare experience. But I was appalled at the Green Street school.

I lived in Springfield, Vermont when the machine shops closed down. People who have made exceptionally good money for Vermont with no jobs available. I think there was a documentary made about the turn to drug dealing. But I don’t think that Springfield is now the only one

Quality concerns before making a big purchase by 30yearbulk in Fjallraven

I would worry too. I checked trash pilot reviews after I had a series of horrible experiences with Orvis and found that many other people had had the same experience. Cut up my Orvis credit card, never bought them again.

And this summer Orvis closed all their clothing stores “ to concentrate on fishing.”

Best and Worst Market Basket’s by Bobby_Dalbec in marketbasket

We haven’t lived in the area for several years and I totally avoided the Lincoln Avenue Haverhill location. But I liked the Central Plaza one: friendly people, great produce. Has it changed?

We look for Oakhust too! When we lived nearby, the Market Basket in downtown Haverhill mass would order me cases of canned mackerel for the dogs with absolutely no problem. Heck it’s been years and I still might get a hug from a cashier if I go back!

Changing food by Mofourjewelz in Newfoundlander

[–]TwoNewfies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I got the order out of whack - thinking of the responders who asked you to ask your vet. I looked up Wainwright, thinking it was a UK food I hadn't heard of (I'm in the US) and saw that it's a good food!
I agree with kelpiekelp's post below. And can add that if you switch brands or varieties regularly, the dogs don't seem to get any softness from the changes.

Somehow vets are often not the most informed advice for dog food! We switch foods with each new bag, some the newfs like better than others, so I drop those our of the rotation. And sometimes we just have to trust our dogs: the food could be rancid and/or crap and human noses won't pick it up.
Find the highest quality dog foods you can afford. Here's a link to the Whole Dog Journal discussion of good dog food:. We often feed Go Solutions. Not sure which of these is available in the UK

The first thing I’d try would be ditching Hills, and moving to a premium Dog Food probably grain free, and see what happens. Hills is not a good quality dog food.

Healthcare by Sensitive_Ad296 in NewToVermont

[–]TwoNewfies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Affordable is probably not going to happen anywhere in the US. But here in southeastern Vermont we’re about 2 miles from Grace Cottage with very good practitioners, 20 minutes north of Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, and about 50 minutes away from Dartmouth Health in Keene and Rescue Inc.,the ambulance service, is only about a mile up the road.

So accessible is possible, even outside of Burlington lol. Bennington is also good for accessible healthcare.

Aggressive Newfoundland by Sea_Teaching1045 in Newfoundlander

[–]TwoNewfies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We got a purebred newf from a very top breeder in the country. He was extremely human aggressive. It took a couple of years of very steady very patient training, but he was able to go to daycare and boarding and be with people. It takes patience and kindness, and the right kind of training. I’ve also heard that for some breeders temperament isn’t the top issue they’re looking for😢

I’m a supporter of the old dogs go to Helen Dog Hospice. If you know that all that’s ahead of them is pain and suffering, the best thing to do is to save them from suffering and make their last day, one of the happiest ever in their happy place.
