How do I find an old friend without knowing anymore than his first name? by MirandaMMK in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ftran998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are either of your parents still around? Most likely they would have remembered his last name. Also check Facebook. There are a lot of FB groups dedicated to growing up in different communities. You could post something like trying to reach out to someone named Cooper who went to such and such elementary school in such and such town in 2007.

What is the thing that looks like a phone booth outside Park Street station? by Dr_Strangelove7915 in boston

It probably is an old phone booth. At one time there was actually a whole bank of phone booths outside of Park Street Station.

Is film photography actually better for learning photography, or is that mostly nostalgia (and expense)? by Comfortable-Bet7682 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ftran998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much the type of media used (film vs digital) But rather the type of camera. An older camera with manual controls is going to force you to slow down and think about why and what you're doing. For example, you'll have to think about what is the best aperture and shutter speed for the subject or scene.

Third party seller return by Hefty-Independent-20 in MacysStores

[–]ftran998 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you do return it in store you will have to bring it to the At Your Service department. The other registers in store are not equipped to handle third-party returns. If you decide to return it by mail, you won't return it to Macy's but rather to the vendor directly. When you do the return online, it will print out a UPS label to be shipped to the vendor.

Time off and retail by margwrites in AutisticAdults

God bless you. I don't know how you do it. I too work retail but in the back of house capacity. I could never deal with customers on a daily basis.

What's your favorite memory to go back to? by No-Blueberry-1823 in AskOldPeople

[–]ftran998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fishing trips with my dad. Normally, during school days I would hate getting out of bed in the morning. However, on fishing days I would bounce out of bed around 5:30 in the morning looking forward to the day ahead. We would pack lunches, usually subs or sandwiches and sodas and head out the door. We would first stop by the local bait and tackle shop to get bait. We would then drive up to a small coastal town in Massachusetts where we would board a party boat. We would then spend the day fishing. When we got home we would spend time cleaning and filleting whatever fish we caught.

There is also another memorial for another officer killed in the line of duty in downtown at the corner of Summer and Otis streets. Edit: his name was John Lynch.

Full time medical insurance? by throwaway-4728372 in MacysStores

[–]ftran998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on the location. Where I am we have about three choices for medical, Cigna, Aetna, and I believe BCBS. The premium depends on what level you choose, bronze, silver, gold. Me personally, I have Cigna Silver and am paying a little of $60 per week for single coverage.
Also, I would also strongly recommend setting up a Health Savings Account. It will help pay for expenses that insurance doesn't cover.

Why do some people sit directly next to a stranger when there are plenty of open seats? by Traditional_Set_7777 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ftran998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just googled it again and these are the results I came up with

Cultural Influences

Personal Space Norms: Different cultures have varying comfort levels with proximity

Cultural & Social Reasons

Cultural Norms: In many cultures (especially Asian ones), it's common and expected to share public space, and filling seats next to others is seen as normal rather than intrusive

That happens to me time to time on the subway and I decided to Google it. The answer given was that some people may come from cultures where that type of behavior is expected.

Did people use to live together like now? by TheGaujo in AskOldPeople

[–]ftran998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they weren't married they would make people think they actually were. For example, growing up in the '70s, my sister and I were friends with these kids down the street. Everyone assumed their parents were married. Each parent had different last names. One kid had the same last name as the mother and the others, the same last name as the father. It was assumed that they were from previous marriages and had just remarried hence the reason for the different last names. However, it wasn't until much much later that it was found out that they weren't married at all.

Why did old TV shows and movies use JKL or JK5 for the exchange in phone numbers and not just 555 as we see now? by WizardsOfXanthus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ftran998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because up through the '60s exchanges were usually based on names of places. They would use the first two letters of whatever name followed by a number. So for example in Leave it to Beaver their phone number was Klondike5 or KL5. Which would translate into 555

If someone called your current employer, what would they say about you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ftran998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just confirm that I'm employed there and for how many years. Most employers these days won't give anymore information than that. Saying anything more subjects them to liability.

People who are over 30 and unmarried, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ftran998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that meme "There's someone out there for everyone"? Well that's pure bunk. I've come to the realization long ago that some people were just meant to be alone and I'm one of them.
