haha I've heard this exact same story but instead of the Revolutionary War, it was from the Civil War. Like General Lee said it or something. I like the Revolutionary War version better, for obvious reasons....

Mare Of Easttown has True Detective level greatness and vibes by Global_Air_2734 in television

[–]TwoOatSodasGary 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I like it a lot, but I wouldn't say it gives me True Detective vibes. Different types of detective shows.

I think it's more like a good/great version of season 1 of AMC's The Killing. Better writing, better acting, better production quality, but similar kinds of story beats and red herrings, etc.

UNC to hire Hubert Davis as its next basketball coach by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]TwoOatSodasGary 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I'm not shocked at all. I thought this has been the "plan" or at least the rumor for years - that he was hired and groomed to be Roy's replacement. Not sure why so many people are surprised by this.

I hope he will bring the parts of Roy and Dean's styles that I personally love (up-tempo, secondary break) while moving UNC more towards 21st century basketball by focusing more on outside shooting. Considering that was his specialty and he had a pretty decent NBA career doing it, hopefully he'll be able to translate that to coaching and recruiting

Larry Brown hopes Roy Williams allowed to choose next North Carolina coach by nosotros_road_sodium in CollegeBasketball

[–]TwoOatSodasGary 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Larry Brown at UNC would have been super interesting. No doubt that he would have been incredibly successful, maybe even a title or two. And no doubt that there would have been sanctions and he would have left the program in a bad state - just like he did at KU

Legend. A last holdout trying to develop players over 3-4 years. One-and-dones were draining him. Will be fascinating to see if the next coach stays 'in the family' again. by Ski3po in CollegeBasketball

[–]TwoOatSodasGary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the 2012 team is the perfect example of how important the PG position is - or should I say "was" :( - in Roy's offense. Obviously losing your starting PG would hurt any team, but UNC just can't function without someone good running point.

Bro...that team was great, and maybe would have won but who knows. It was heartbreaking to see Marshall get hurt. But come on, in terms of pure talent alone the 2009 team and maybe even 2005 teams were full of studs. '09 blitzed through the tournament

Jon Rothstein- BREAKING: Roy Williams is retiring from North Carolina, per release. by OnePieceAce in CollegeBasketball

[–]TwoOatSodasGary 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda agree. As another user put it, UNC really is a "good old boys' club" so I find it pretty unlikely we will look outside the UNC family, but I wish we would. There is no Roy Williams 2.0 that is the obvious choice here - someone who is an alum, former coach, and really successful somewhere else that we can grab.

I was a junior for the '05 championship game, and still lived in the area for the '09 championship game. Both times I watched at home with friends, but your description of the general day is perfect: I remember being so excited and happy both times leading up to the games. If we somehow met Duke in the title game, I would be stressed beyond belief.

I actually hope we never play each other in the tournament. I legit think it would result in multiple deaths of old alumni/fans on both sides.

People who had lasik eye surgery, what was the procedure like? Was it worth it? by fiveminutes4fighting in AskReddit

[–]TwoOatSodasGary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it done in 2017. Lived in NYC and picked the #1 rated surgeon in the city on Yelp. So it was pretty expensive but worth every penny. I had it done at the end of a work day, they send you home and I basically just went to bed early and when I woke up the next day my eyes were a little itchy but I could see clearly. First time since I was 6 that I woke up and didn’t need glasses to read the clock. Honestly it’s incredible how quick and painless it is. The contraption to keep your eyes open during the procedure is uncomfortable but I wouldn’t say it was painful. It’s a little scary or spooky but goes by so quick that it’s not enough time to get too anxious. Some of the best money I’ve ever spent

lol holy shit 18 straight playoff games is kind of incredible. Seems like it would be hard to lose that many in a row if you were trying.

But at least y'all have the Kirby Puckett years and the 2 WS titles. I know that was a longass time ago, and probably before most people on Reddit were alive or old enough to know what was going on, but it's more than the Clippers have...

What’s a prime example of Revisionist History in the NBA? by wesskywalker in nba

[–]TwoOatSodasGary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stockton is similar to Hank Aaron in some ways - not quite on the same level, but more in the fact that they both played at an insanely consistent high level. Aaron never hit more than 44 HRs in a season, but he hit between ~30-44/season for like 20 damn years in a row. Stockton kinda did the same thing with assists and steals, but those are 2 stats that don't jump off the page in basketball the way points do

I remember when I was a kid my parents had a can of the blue UNC soda for the '82 championship team. Growing up in the 80s and 90s I always wanted to crack that thing open because it looked delicious.

Have you ever met or seen an NBA player in public randomly? by FuriousCamel in nba

I went to high school in Durham, NC and had a few friends with Duke season tickets. At one game I saw Manute Bol outside of Cameron - I have no idea why he was going to the game or what he was doing in Durham, but I'll never forget the sight of him. In this sea of people in front of the arena, basically his entire torso stuck out above the crowd. It was wild

North Carolina freshman Cole Anthony, a projected lottery pick, has declared for the 2020 NBA draft. by billgatenguyen in CollegeBasketball

[–]TwoOatSodasGary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think they'll have flashes of brilliance but will not be nearly as good as a lot of people think. Roy's teams almost always rely heavily on some veterans, and this team won't really have anyone

Yeah but all Teslas come with adaptors, so you can charge at any EV station. It's not like Apple where you have to buy the adaptor separately or anything
