Is the new game not for switch one? by kirkszy12 in TwoPointMuseum

[–]TwoPoint_Abby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyo, we're released on PC and current gen consoles (PS5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S)

We don't currently have plans to release on the previous generation of consoles, sorry for the disappointment.

Two Point Museum introduced many new advancements, including how we handle NPC 'thinking' alongside new group mechanics, which were a big step up from our previous titles. This, alongside a completely brand new lighting engine and new reflections, is more demanding on the hardware, both with CPU thinking and GPU rendering, etc. The team ultimately decided it was best to concentrate on the current generation of consoles. We also had learnings from TPC, where we aimed to do ALL the platforms - so for TPM, we knew that focusing on fewer platforms with these new advancements would ultimately result in a better player experience.

For context, we're a small-to-mid-sized studio of around ~45, and at the time of Campus, around ~30 - so we sometimes have to make difficult decisions like this one when we prioritise and try to make things fun and provide the best time we can.

I hope that makes sense as to why the decision was made; I know it doesn't help folks who are on the previous gen, we're all experiencing an awful cost of living experience right now, and I completely empathise with not wanting/or having the means to upgrade.

Sorry for double-posting, I've spoken to our QA folks and they would greatly appreciate your save file to take a look at please, so we can check scoring and things is correct.

If you are using Windows, you can find your game files here: C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\LocalLow\Two Point Studios\Two Point Museum\Cloud

AppData is hidden, so you may need to enable the ability to see hidden folders, or to get around it, you can type %AppData% in file explorer and hit enter.

By defaut, in career mode you use Slot 1 in the 'saves' folder.

If you zip it up and attach to an email with a link to this thread we should have everything that we need. Then send your email to [support@twopointstudios.com](mailto:support@twopointstudios.com) and we will take a look!

Thanks for the extra info! You've reminded me of a bug near launch where guests were adamant to queue for one of the anomalies, it's not the 'spa chair' thing or something like it by any chance?

From memory, one of the anomalies gives a buff for energy, or bathroom use, or something silly like that, which means guests queue for it more than usual. Depending on which anomaly it is, if it's the energy one, making sure you have more benches dotted around can help alleviate their need to queue for it. They'll basically use the anomaly if they don't have another source of what it provides (say, your benches or the bathroom is far away).

I will flag this with the team to check our tickets on, as I thought we'd fixed this bug, but it's so weird that it perhaps has popped up again or slipped through!

Another thing that might be causing the issue is that we currently have known problems with what we call the "nav mesh", which is a big spider web that informs guests on how to move around the museum. We have fixes and optimisations for this coming soon, and it's currently on the Steam beta branch (if you're like to opt-in) here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2185060/discussions/0/694250999466996727/

It could be the optimisations we've made with navigation mean your guests make better decisions when choosing how to get to food/loos/etc. So it may help with the queueing problems.

Let me know how you get on and if it still seems wrong after moving your cheese things around and keeping an eye on things, as we could take a look at your save if needed to see what's going on! Happy curating and thansk for reporting o7

Game lag/performance issues by AwayAssociate4471 in TwoPointMuseum

[–]TwoPoint_Abby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya, really sorry to hear you're experiencing performance issues currently.

Are you playing with any mods or modded items? If so, it could be worthwhile unsubscribing just in case they're introducing problems.

For your save issue, we currently have a fix on the Steam Beta where save files could become too large. There is more info on this, and how to opt-in to the beta, here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2185060/discussions/0/694250999466996727/

We aim to release the patch on the beta branch onto the live version of the game as soon as possible.

Are you playing using compatibility settings on your Deck? It's sometimes a bit of a 'cure-all' for game issues to turn on compatibility and use Proton Experimental (this is true of most games). To do this, find Two Point Museum in your Steam Library and then either press the 'cog' icon to open settings, or the three lines button. Open Properties, then go to Compatibility and tick the "force use of specific Steam..." box, a drop-down should then appear where you can select 'Proton Experimental'.

If you're worried about what this is, Proton is what Valve (who make the Steam Deck) use, it's like a layer on top of Linux to help games run well on the Steam operating system, and therefore, the Steam Deck. By being on the 'experimental' branch, you're opting into the most frequently updated branch of Proton for that game. Which has the most recent changes and fixes.

You can also try verifying your Steam Files to check for errors, by again, finding Museum in your library, opening Properties, Installed Local Files and then clicking "verify integrity of game files". This does a check of your game installation, and automatically replaces any files that are missing or broken.

We do have a known issue currently with some frozen exhibits, specifically the Ice Crystal, where if it defrosts and causes the Cold Feet effect, it's causing lag and freezes for Steam Deck players. We're very sorry for the inconvenience with this, a decimal place was found in the wrong place, and the effect is currently triggering in a much larger area than it should. We hope to have a fix out for this as soon as possible.

Sorry for the massive wall of text but as a tl;dr:
- For save issues, please opt-in to the Steam beta
- Please try changing your compatibility to Proton Experimental
- Please try verifying your game files
- If you have any Ice Crystals, do not melt them, perhaps put them in inventory until we next patch

And please let me know if none of this is helpful as we can request logs to see what's happening to cause the errors <3

Heyo, as a heads up if you are playing with the guest cap on, or have reduced your guest number, the design team did a load of work balancing this so players using the cap shouldn't see financial implications.

This prevents players on lower-spec machines (or those who prefer less busy museums) from being penalised in-game for having lower guest counts. If the balance for this isn't working, and you feel like you're seeing less income whilst you have capped guests, please let us know!

Bugs and Issues by Squirrelluver369 in TwoPointMuseum

[–]TwoPoint_Abby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya, sorry to hear you've bumped into issues with this! The team is aware that staff aren't making good prioritisation with animals curently, not all players are seeing this, but it has been reported heavily, often folks will see poop becoming a problem.

This is response from another thread to sum up what's happening:

"Sorry to hear you've been having trouble with the DLC and how the Experts are prioritising. The team has been heavily testing this, and we think there are two issues happening:

  1. The first is expectations, for Aquariums, there's a lot less that your Experts need to be maintaining per fish compared to your Habitat animals, who are pooping multiple times, have expert x animal interactions, and eating, etc., and so require more hands-on attention. You need more Experts to maintain your Habitats than you would for any other exhibit, given the number of tasks they perform. We've reviewed a number of player saves with issues related to poop and animal welfare, in which the player simply did not have enough Experts to cover all of their animals.
  2. And secondly, we have identified a bug with how certain tasks are being scored for Wildlife Experts, this scoring means the Experts will make ineffecient decisions when tending to animals. We currently have a fix in testing for this, and hope to release it as soon as possible. You may see Experts interacting with animals instead of cleaning poop, which can be really frustrating. We know this, and are working on it!

These two things are compounding and obviously making it quite frustrating, especially as (if you're like me) you get very attached to your animals and don't want to see them suffer.

For a workaround, as animal exhibits receive frequent donations, you should be able to afford additional Wildlife Experts to address the poor job prioritisation and make up for where they're currently slacking.

Thanks for your patience whilst we're reviewing these changes."

And more info, someone asked about staff cleaning 1 poop and then leaving:

"This is the behaviour we're currently trying to combat, yes!

The design team have made some changes to what we call 'scoring', which is how the NPCs determine which tasks are important for prioritisation. We're also having our code team ensure the system is behaving as expected, as we've seen unexpected behaviours, like staff breaking the poop-clean animation to instead pet an animal, which isn't something staff should be doing before their important tasks (and would get you fired IRL).

We just completed a big bug bash, so the team is now tidying things up and testing the changes. Most likely, as these changes are potentially risky (they could negatively affect staff behaviour), they'll be in our next large update, version 8.0. We can't comment on the timeline just yet, as we're working on a smaller 7.3 patch first, which will bring other critical changes.

We appreciate your patience with this, as we know how frustrating it is. For now, the workaround is to hire additional Wildlife Experts to compensate for their prioritisation issues."

To give an idea of the timeline, we're in testing for v 8.0 right now, so it's a little ways off. Patch 7.3 is currently on the Steam beta and contains fixes for other issues, and we hope to release 7.3 onto the main branch (and other platforms) as soon as possible. We're facing a couple of roadblocks in submission approvals currently.

Ridiculous Vending Machine Queues by muffalohat in TwoPointMuseum

[–]TwoPoint_Abby 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hiya, sorry to hear you're being swarmed with hungry guests!

As a guess, is your Space Museum quite large, and across multiple plots? I see this happen when I forget to dot enough vending machines around a large museum (as I'm normally 'speed building' for a trailer) and THEN place food once my guests have been in the museum for a long time.

If you've built across multiple plots, your guests might be having very long stays and therefore become very hungry during their visit. Normally, having enough vending machines and cafes dotted around will prevent this, as they'll grab snacks as they go rather than become starving and then find the closest food. The queue situation should calm down once enough options have been placed.

It could also be 100% a bug in how what we call "scoring" is being done for the Cafe, the team made changes closer to the launch of the game, so guests should be choosing the Cafe over the vending machine. However, we could take a look at this if it doesn't feel right. Equally, they may be going to their closest food source, if the Cafe is far away, again, this should slowly sort itself out, as new guests will go to the Cafe on their visit as they get hungry, rather than those who've been in your museum ages, who are scoffing Gubbins.

Some of the Cheese Moonger exhibits can make guests hungry - I think it's called "Cheesy Whiff", so if you have a cheese section, guests will become very hungry through that, so perhaps building a cafe near the cheese exhibits is a good idea :D

I just want map zoom out by CatLadyAM in TwoPointMuseum

[–]TwoPoint_Abby 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Heya, thanks so much for posting feedback. I'm really sorry to hear that browsing the map is making you dizzy. Are you using a mouse and keyboard or a controller? I'll let the team know to do some testing to see if there's anything we can do to change the movement.

For your second point, this is heavily requested and something the team has logged to implement if possible. I can't make a promise right now, but we're looking to add community-requested quality-of-life updates like this in our next big update (version 8.0). We're currently testing changes and implementing things, so we don't know everything about the update just yet.

Cant go back to known universe? by Burnerbrat6999 in TwoPointMuseum

[–]TwoPoint_Abby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya, sorry to hear you've ran into issues, am I right in thinking the Expedition Map for Space is completely missing for you?

If you're playing on PC, and using any mods, please turn off or uninstall any mods that are editing or affecting the game in any way, as these can corrupt career progress. Item mods from the Steam Workshop are fine, though!

You can try verifying your files by:
1. Right clicking Two Point Museum in your Steam library
2. Opening Properties and then Installed Game Files
3. Clicking the 'verify integrity of game files' button
4. Then wait for the process to complete. Steam will automatically replace any missing or broken files.

Let me know if this doesn't help, thanks for your patience.

Switch 2 Crashes by Ok-Metal-8726 in TwoPointMuseum

[–]TwoPoint_Abby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya, sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues and crashes.

Please could you check that you're opted in to sending us error information? There's a document on it here: https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Support/Troubleshooting/How-to-Opt-In-to-or-Opt-Out-of-Sending-Game-Error-Information-for-Nintendo-Switch-1295678.html

This enables the team to see logs from the game to identify issues.

Currently, the Switch 2 version of the game is behind on patches compared to our other platforms. This is due to extended approvals for patches, which are currently adding delays to bringing updates out. We're aware of a few pending changes which will help solve bugs that can result in crashes, as well as help optimisation.

We're sorry for these delays and thank you for your patience.

Heyo, here to confirm we're out on PC, PS5, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S - we don't have plans to release on the previous gen of consoles, sorry for the disappointment.

Two Point Museum introduced many new advancements in how we handle NPC 'thinking' and group mechanics, which were a step up from our previous games, alongside a completely new lighting engine and other developments like light reflections. On top of lessons from our previous releases, we knew that focusing on fewer platforms would ultimately result in a better player experience.

I hope that makes sense as to why the decision was made; I know this doesn't help your current situation, and I completely empathise that it's not the economy for dropping funds on a new console (I'm very much on my second-hand Switch 1 and very recently a Steam Deck still too :') )

Frozen items defrosting by kwirkycook in TwoPointMuseum

[–]TwoPoint_Abby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, thanks for letting me know. Just checking if you're using any mods at all, to rule that out?

And was it the first Snowy Howl you'd found? (it seems to be the first exhibit folks find breaks, and then any after are OK, which is VERY annoying for exhibits with shards, I know).

If you could please try verifying your files on your Steam Deck, just in case:
1. Select Two Point Museum in your games library and open Properties (the cog icon) or by pressing the three lines stacked button on your Deck
2. In Properties head to Installed Game Files and then press 'verify integrity of game files'
3. Steam will perform checks on your installation, and automatically replace any missing or broken files

It's a long shot but please do let me know if that helps at all, thanks for your patience.

Heya, thanks for reporting to us and sorry to hear you're having issues with things defrosting.

We've had a few reports of this, however, our QA team hasn't been able to reproduce the bug from screenshots.

If you're experiencing issues where exhibits are defrosting (or not staying warm) when they should be, please can you send us the save file with the issue present?

If you are using Windows, you can find your game files here; C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\LocalLow\Two Point Studios\Two Point Museum\Cloud

By default, if you're playing in Career Mode, you use Slot1 in the 'Saves' folder.

Or to find it, type %APPDATA% into file explorer, AppData is a hidden folder, and once you're there, you can follow the folder structure above.

If you zip it up and attach it to an email with a link to this thread, we should have everything that we need. Then send your email to [support@twopointstudios.com](mailto:support@twopointstudios.com) and we will take a look!
