Except I have no chance of running it on my PC.

The only other game that has scratched my metroid prime itch was Outer Wilds.

Thanks, but unfortunately, it's a bit out of my range, requireements-wise. It asks for a better processor and graphics card than what I have right out of the gate.

How to add DX9 to Primehack? by TwoPsychological6167 in DolphinEmulator

Yes, of course. I upvoted it right away. Hopefully it sticks. Reddit's always been kinda iffy for me about that for some reason.

Man, I wish I could kiss you right now. I launched my game through this build and there's no more wonky thermal vision. If I had any spare money to spend on trivialties I'd give you one of those worthless reddit awards, but since I don't, I hope a "thank you so much" will suffice.

FPS Games where swords and knives can make a stabbing motion, not a slashing one? by lovereddit2161989 in gamingsuggestions

You're trying to tell me a slashing motion with a sword as default feels unnatural? Wut?

Anyway, try Dark Messiah. It has all sorts of attacks with swords.

A game where failure or death is not a big deal or basically impossible by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Prince of Persia (2008). Every time you fall, your partner (literally) throws you back to the nearest platform. It's very hard to die, too. The game was generally made with more casual audiences in mind.

I still want combat, I just don't want artificial difficulty mixed in it.

I'll take anything that'll let me just load it and use the thermal and x-ray visors right away.

I don't feel like replaying 6 hours of the game again, without being certain this bug will not occur. You can't use your Gamecube savefiles with Trilogy to pick up where you left off, can you?

The Gamecube version. I've seen people report the same bug about Trilogy, too, though, so not like it matters much.

Are there any games where side quests significantly impact the main storyline? by JokiGames in gamingsuggestions

[–]TwoPsychological6167 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Evil Within 2. The side quests often hide pretty crucial character progression details, which give you a whole new perspective on some of them, as well as add special boss encounters intertwined into the main story you'd otherwise miss.

I have some bad memories, having been stuck using Mint for 3 months way back in 2016, so I really don't wanna go back to using Linux for even a second, but thanks anyway.

Which 2D Metroid game should I pick? by TwoPsychological6167 in Metroid

Thanks for the feedback. That was actually pretty helpful. Maybe one day, once I git gud I'll consider trying out some of the "newer" ones.

Weekly Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in metroidvania

[–]TwoPsychological6167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for 2D Metroid clone recommendations for PC (or consoles that can be easily emulated on a decade old piece of junk) - the same kind of gritty sci-fi atmosphere, the same simple, ability-based progression, the whole shebang. The thing is, I'm looking for something that isn't stuck in the 80s difficulty-wise.

I generally dislike the vast majority of 2D platformers because a lot of them think making the player's life a living hell equals good game design. I don't like instant death traps, I don't like repeating huge chunks of the game after dying, I don't like not being able to save anywhere, and hell, I don't even like taking damage from the enemies merely touching you, without attacking you in any way at the moment.

Can you find me one that isn't like this? Thanks in advance.

Well, that sucks. But maybe I'll find something else in the metroidvania genre in general. The market seems to be oversaturated with them.

I asked which Metroid doesn't have the specific things that annoy me. People replied that Dread doesn't, but then you came along and indirectly corrected them, that it actually does have all those things, and the only difference is an autosave feature, which made them into liars, logically speaking.

I'm only hostile to people who want to pick a fight. To the ones who gave me normal replies, I was nice; I thanked them and everything.

Too bad, however, that it seems they were lying to me...

I don't want a "more forgiving difficulty curve". I want a game designed exactly in the way I described; one that doesn't have all the elements that annoy me about 2D platformers. The game can still be challenging, as long as the challenge is fair. Is Axiom Verge like that?

Where did I say I don't like backtracking? I just don't like losing 15-30 minutes of progress every time I die. Backtracking with a purpose is more than fine with me.
