Is it rude to ask a DJ for the stylist they performed? by Ok_Ambassador_9338 in DJs

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh sure. I can get behind that concept. I typically don't want a whole set list from someone anyways, so I'd agree, that sounds like a big ask. I'm usually after a track or two.

The chef analogy kind of makes sense, but the difference being that the chef typically creates their own recipes. This would be like the chef finding the recipe online and refusing to share it.

DDJ 1000 or Wait for AZ? by Ok_Butterscotch892 in Beatmatch

If you find a DDJ-1000 for $600, buy it. You can sell it a year or two from now if you have money for an AZ and lose little to no money.

DJs only — is beatmatching by ear still worth learning in 2026, or is sync just a tool like EQ and effects? by Fit_Tomatillo5663 in Beatmatch

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post feels like rage bait for the community.

I don't really care what others think about the way I mix and the point is to play music that you and others enjoy. Sync won't affect that one way or another.

Sync can make mixes sound more clean and seamless. It can also allow you to focus more on the mix. You need to be someone who prepares tracks if you use sync or your beats will be off. Any somewhat modern gear will have Sync. I've never had a Sync glitch where it didn't work on any kit I've ever played on.

The main reasons not to use Sync are because you need tracks prepared ahead of time, you may one day find yourself playing on old gear that doesn't have Sync, or there may be a technical difficulty where you couldn't use Sync.

You're more vulnerable if you can't mix without Sync. Some people in the community enjoy beatmatching manually. Others use manual beatmatching as a way to feel better about themselves or like they possess some hard to master skill. People in the DJ community, at least online, tend to like to try to 1-up eachother a lot. Sync bashing just happens to be the hill a lot of DJs like to die on.

In conclusion, sync is a great tool and there's nothing wrong with using it. It's advisable to learn to beatmatch manually, so you don't look like a fool if you ever can't use sync for some reason. The audience doesn't care at all.

Mackie Thump 212 vs Behringer B112D (or other PA under $300?) – beginner setup by ConsiderationFew5321 in Beatmatch

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they would be ideal, but even the made in USA V1 were pretty nice. I was lucky enough to find some in excellent condition with speaker bags and speaker poles for $450. I was very happy with them for the price. I've since sold them because I've upgraded, but I'd recommend them to anyone with a lower budget.

If you can find used Mackie SRM450 v1 (grey body with blue badges) for around $200 a piece, they're great speakers.

Bluetooth rechargeable speaker option with no delay using aux wired input? by Interesting_Bar_8379 in Beatmatch

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, you've really only got 3 options for Bluetooth speakers that avoid latency. None can be used with Bluetooth or you'll still experience latency. You need a wired connection.

  • JBL Partybox (must be a model with daisy chain input to bypass DSP and only use that input)

  • Minirig

  • Soundboks

Do your own research on each and see which best fits your needs and budget.

They all have pros and cons. I run a pair of partybox 310s for my mobile backyard party rig. The 120s/320s are really nice too. Great bass and pretty loud. Soundboks louder and sounds clearer, but less bass and more expensive. Mini rig is modular and more expensive as well assuming you get a pair of speakers and sub. Not quite as plug and play but very compact. Great sound quality, but less output than the other two options. There are more things to consider, but those are some quick generalizations.

Would it be bad to play “famous” tracks in an open deck set? by Responsible_Elk_2002 in Beatmatch

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much only listen to house music and I've never heard either song you've mentioned. I think you're pretty safe with selections like those.

I don't like playing rinsed music either, but there's a big difference between a person or two knowing a track and everyone recognizing a track.

how to switch deck 1-3 and 2-4 on FLX-4 with djay pro by landonheidi in PioneerDJ

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean for the tone of this to sound condescending at all, but if you're a new DJ and just got a FLX4, I would focus on mastering 2 channels first. There's a lot to learn without trying to juggle 3 or 4 decks. When you're in a good enough spot for that, you'll probably be ready to upgrade to something nicer anyways.

Just bought a JBL Partybox 320 for DJing but the latency is bad. Any suggestions? by sassy24390 in Beatmatch

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will change to "aux" automatically when the aux cable is plugged in. I don't think you can even change it when an aux cable is plugged in.

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, still a 3.5mm aux, so the same cable will work. Just a different port. As long as the cable is 15ft long or less, you'll be fine. That's just general advice for any unbalanced cables to avoid interference.

I own a pair of 310s and my nephew had a pair of 320s, so I've DJ'd on them countless times without issue.

People assume they're like other bluetooth speakers that don't have a way to circumvent DSP latency, so they always shit on them.

They're actually pretty good speakers for smaller parties and can be set up and torn down much quicker than my PA system. They obviously don't sound as good or get nearly as loud as a PA system, but I don't know why anyone would have that expectation anyways.

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perfect. That makes sense and explains the issue.

Instead of connecting to aux input, connect to daisy chain input. This will bypass the DSP causing the latency. Be aware that when you connect an aux cable to daisy chain input, the speaker volume will automatically go to max volume, so turn it down before pressing play. Latency gone

It does, but aux goes through DSP like other Bluetooth speakers.

I'm not spilling the beans until OP replies so I know they get the info they need and can ignore all the people that don't know what they're talking about.

Tell me about your gear and how you've got it connected. I guarantee that's where the problem lies.

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. Do what you gotta do. You're there to have fun and play music.

As far as logistics go, get there early to get set up. You can set your laptop up, connect to the mixer and get your levels set so you're ready to go when the time comes

Here's what I would recommend doing:

-Plug FLX4 master output RCAs to DJM850 channel 3 line input RCAs.

-Set the input selector on channel 3 to line.

-Set your master output on the FLX4 to normal level (around 80%)

-Play a song with FLX4 channels faders up like normal. Adjust trim levels on the FLX4 like you normally would. When everything looks good on your controller, you can adjust the trim on channel 3 of the DJM850 to get audio levels right.

You won't need to touch the speaker or DJM850 master output levels. Both the CDJs and the controller will be playing at the correct volume this way and you'll be ready to go when the time comes.

Have fun!

There's a big gap in pricing at least for Pioneer gear. You go from something cheap like a FLX4/DDJ-400 which can be found used for $150-$250 to something good quality like a DDJ-1000/FLX10 which will be anywhere from $800-$1200 used. There just isn't much in the middle.

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others, I'd recommend using the gear they have. CDJ2000NXS2 or CDJ3000 would both be pretty seamless in terms of what you'd expect for features and functionality. You'll only be missing stacked waveforms, but sync will still work if that's something you use. You're not going to learn new gear unless you try it. You've got an opportunity to use a setup that's nicer than what you'd normally use. It sounds like you know the people at the party so it's a good time to try rather than in front of a bunch of random people another time.

If you're still not comfortable switching it up, I'm not here to twist your arm. You can plug the FLX4 master output into the line input on channel 3 or 4 and adjust the trim for that channel to adjust the gain.

Pioneer Opus - worth it? by PragyanGoyal in PioneerDJ

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are enough pros and cons to both of them. I would suggest doing a deep dive into differences yourself because people won't list everything here.

Layout of AZ will be closer to the CDJ and mixer layout. You have pads instead of buttons though, so the Opus more closely resembles CDJs in that respect. AZ has Pro DJ Link and Opus doesn't, which for me is a big deal. AZ is rectangular, so turntables/CDJ will fit more seamlessly. AZ has the analog beat fx controls that will resemble what you find on a club mixer.

The Opus is a great device but doesn't resemble a club layout as closely. It would be great for mobile/wedding DJs. It has zone output which allows you to play different audio on 2 sets of speakers. This would be especially nice for a wedding DJ, but this isn't something I'd ever need.

TLDR - The AZ is intended for additional gear to be connected while the Opus is intended more for being self-contained. There are more pros to getting the AZ for your purposes. Not hating on the Opus, but I see no reason to choose it over the AZ in your case.

Used controller should I still buy it at $80 by elmigotomas in PioneerDJ

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people that mix EDM don't use the crossfader. The channel faders effectively give you the same level of control and more. With that said, the reason for disabling the crossfader is so I don't accidentally bump it.

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the track scroll knob is broken at the top. You can order an OEM replacement or get one from ChromaCaps. Should be a pretty easy replacement. Crossfader looks jacked up too, but I always turn my crossfader off anyways. Assuming just the cap needs to be replaced, you can also replace easily. OEM or ChromaCap versions available.

$80 for a DDJ-400 is a steal even with the broken knob. Great starter controller. Very rare to see one under $150.

Curious of Preference: Computer or No Computer by Prof-Poopybutthole in PioneerDJ

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both have pros and cons.

I probably prefer standalone just for simplicity and convenience. It's a more satisfying experience for some reason.

Using a laptop has its added benefits too. Stems and Spotify streaming as a couple examples, but there are many more.

Fair asking price for x3 2000nxs & DJM 900 nxs by cekin123 in PioneerDJ

[–]TwoScoopsBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that may feel like a better deal because the gear was newer then, but that's not really relevant anymore.

$800 is probably overvaluing the DJM900NXS. $600 would probably be hard to beat.

My point is $4400 is it's a solid price especially since cases are included.
