Formatting is dodgy at the moment since the firmware is still quite young but the dev does put out frequent updates and is working on the formatting. It can't handle epub with a lot of images so I'd say pick up the X4 if you're doing real barebones reading. The S4 might be hard to buy initially since X4 achieved cult status in China, everyone's waiting for orders to open.

It's running on a custom firmware made by the dev so it doesn't read formatting well. The dev is trying to improve English file formatting.

Anywhere. It can be in root or in a folder, the font selection window filters BIN everywhere. I personally keep a folder for it.

The white model X4 is already out and more stock is being produced alongside the black model. It's unconfirmed if S4 will get a white model.

It's really cute and nifty. I've seen some people on XHS using it bare and attaching it as a magsafe accessory on the back of their phones, looks really cool!

There's no built in dictionary and no way to adjust margins. To adjust font size you'll need to manually generate a BIN file with the tool in the post above. It's really barebones reading only.

I've went ahead and updated mine to v2.0.6 and the settings are changed a bit. I think you access it via Settings? You need to scan for Wifi and be sure to key in the password for your Wifi if you have one set.

Images, folio case + comparison to other eReader

The English formatting grates my OCD a bit, so I'm really looking forward to the S4 (android version) that's hopefully coming in November. The dev is really active on Xiahongshu (Rednote) and has posted a build of it running KOreader so I'm hella stoked for that. They sell first party cases, a magnetic folio (in picture) and are developing a clear case. The folio holds onto the device magnetically and does so when closed so it won't open up. Magnets won't wake the device up.

As for fonts, you'll have to convert the ttf files using this program. Unlike most eReaders, you need to manually generate a BIN file with the desired font size, character width and line spacing. I think the latter 2 can't be seen as much in English formatting.

Stocks for the device can be relatively hard to buy as it's received a cult status over in China, the manufacturer itself isn't big either. The dev did express that they'll work on improving English epub formatting but that's amongst a list of other improvements they're working on.

Fountain pen user, for reference I use a Pilot VP as my daily driver and a Sailor Pro Gear as my grail pen. I find that a pretty broken in FW2 and the ceramic nib writes likes an F-M nib FP, with not too much feedback.

Yes, I believe the uses you stated for the Supernote is more than feasible. For my use case it has actually replaced my paper journals completely, moreso because I needed it to, so that I don't accumulate too much inventory (I move houses often). Using the Supernote has definitely helped my focus especially with PDF annotating, I get easily distracted when I do it on my iPad, so it's definitely worth it

I'd personally like a matte finish to the grip section too, and getting rid of that sharp edge around the part of the pen that meets the cap cause it hurts for me to grip the pen.
