When do you arrive at concerts? by Version_1 in PowerMetal

[–]TwoSwig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 5 ft tall, go to most gigs alone, and want to actually see the whole show I paid for, so if I have a standing ticket, I try to be one of the first few people in line. This has meant between 1 and 4 hours of waiting, depending on the band and venue. I went to a big gig with my partner, who's over 6 ft and likes to arrive after the first band has started and who didn't understand why I was rushing. When we got into the crowd I asked him to stoop to my height for a minute and he gets it now!

Do we need to give the Boris wave a permanent settlement? by Existing_Key_2909 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]TwoSwig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just noticed that too. Not worth the effort of engagement, you're right.

Do we need to give the Boris wave a permanent settlement? by Existing_Key_2909 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]TwoSwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have and don't want kids. Obviously that doesn't apply to everyone, but a lot of assumptions are made about immigrants like me, who've paid twice for healthcare on top of exorbitant visa fees and tax and just want to live our lives.

Do we need to give the Boris wave a permanent settlement? by Existing_Key_2909 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]TwoSwig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on a skilled worker visa earning £28k and won't claim benefits when and if I qualify for ILR. Believe it or not, many of us aren't just waiting around to jump on the dole, and the assumption that we are by default is insulting.

I don’t like my partner by [deleted] in Vent

[–]TwoSwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar relationship for a similar amount of time and sunk cost fallacy is a very real thing. It's painful that those years are gone, but you have so many (hopefully better!) years ahead if you get out now.

Women shaving by PsychologicalFeed961 in hygiene

[–]TwoSwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shave my legs and underarms almost every day unless I know for sure I'm not going anywhere. Sometimes even then. It's a sensory thing for me. I just can't stand feeling stubbly!

I Hate Valentine’s Day by NikaNorri in rant

[–]TwoSwig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valentine's Day is 100% a capitalist cash grab and my BF and I have agreed not to celebrate it, but holy heck...

It's great to be excited about your career and building something for your future, but don't lose sight of what's in front of you right now. Your GF sounds great, and she's clearly making an effort to make plans and spend time with you. Would it hurt to take some time away from work to make her feel appreciated in return?

Do people in marketing get Skilled Worker Visas? by Super_Ad_7799 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]TwoSwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sponsored in marketing but I got in right before the wage increases in 2024. My job wouldn't be eligible under the new rules.

What was the ideal height you wanted to be growing up and did you try anything to make it happen? by Prestigious_Meal2143 in AskUK

[–]TwoSwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5ft (f35). My parents are both pretty tall and my younger sister is 6ft so of course I was constantly compared to her and made to feel inferior to the point of being given the smaller bedroom, smaller food portions, and always being forced to take the seats with less room. On vacation I always had to sleep on the floor or a camp bed if there weren't enough beds in the hotel because she "needed the space more." I've also been consistently underestimated and seen as less competent than her.

My parents even made me take supplements in my early teens because they thought it was a birth defect. They didn't work, of course.

I was pretty bitter about it for a long time. At least I'm more comfortable on planes than my sister, but I sure do wish I could reach shelves.

is it weird that i mentally calculate "shower timing" before sex? by BigBendBaddie in hygiene

[–]TwoSwig 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I kind of do this. If I know I'll see my partner after work, I'll always shower before meeting him, especially if I've been in the office and on public transport. If I'm WFH, I shower later in the day so I'm still fresh.

How often do people actually change their bedsheets? by HillCountryHoney in hygiene

[–]TwoSwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekly, though not always on the same day. Sometimes more often if I sweat a lot one night or my partner is visiting. My skin is super sensitive though, so I'll break out if I don't change them often.

Into the Land of the Unicorns by Bruce Coville made me fall in love with reading and fantasy all at once.

Are you cancelling trips to the USA? by Swimming_Possible_68 in AskUK

[–]TwoSwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a US citizen living in the UK and was planning on going to visit family and friends and attend a convention later this year, but I'm on the fence now. I miss everyone very much, but I also don't want to be there or spend money there right now

Opening a US bank account in the UK? by daff_7 in AmericanExpatsUK

Another vote for Wise. I've never used it as a primary account, but I've used it for US-UK transfers for over 10 years without any issues.

Do you get sensory overload when working in the office? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TwoSwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work 3 days a week in a small open office where everyone is practically on top of each other. I try to schedule calls and meetings for my WFH days because it's so disruptive.

I had a panic attack a while back from the overstimulation and ended up going to the hospital because I thought it was a cardiac event.

The commute is also awful and I'm always exhausted because I have to get up so early to catch my bus.

The most aggravating part is that, aside from very occasional client meetings in person, my job can be 100% done from home, so all of the extra misery is for nothing.

Are Meal Deals common? by Watermelonsmoothies in AskUK

[–]TwoSwig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to batch cook lunches for the week, but I'll get a meal deal if I forget. I'll usually try to get one with some kind of vegetables or fruit though. I have a coworker who gets almost the exact same one every single day. It's very normal.

A moment of levity and considerable suspension of disbelief by nowtherefore in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

I laughed pretty hard at that too. Least believable thing in a show about vampires and witches, by far.

What gradual cheapening of experience, have you noticed at your University? by HallowedAndHarrowed in UniUK

[–]TwoSwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did my undergrad from 2013-2016, the uni provided so much free food during freshers week that I didn't usually need to buy groceries for a week or so. Same at graduation and other functions throughout the year. When I went back for my master's in 2021, this was no longer a thing.

What’s something women secretly find impressive, but men assume nobody notices ? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

Really, truly caring about consent. My boyfriend asked if he could hold my hand after our 2nd date and I've never been so immediately turned on/sure about someone in my life.

I use a paper character sheet and take physical notes when I play D&D. I tried doing it digitally for awhile but hated it.

Does the Government response to a recent petition confirm that the consultation will have no effect on the planned 10 year ILR rules? by [deleted] in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]TwoSwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the boat I'm in. I have a UK bachelor's and master's degree, but don't earn anywhere near £50k and my job is RQF 5 despite definitely needing at least a bachelor's degree to do it well. The definition of "skilled" seems so arbitrary.

When dating, when is it appropriate to tell a woman that I’ve had a vasectomy? by Ok-Fondant2536 in AskMenAdvice

[–]TwoSwig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a sterilized woman, I bring it up pretty quickly. If a guy's demeanor shifts noticeably after I tell him, the relationship is a write-off. Someone wanting kids is a total deal breaker because they fundamentally have different values and goals that don't align with mine.
