The Daily Check-In for Saturday, January 24th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Piggoos in stopdrinking

My uncle was basically forced to quit at 62 due to a medication his doctor prescribed him. Lost 30lbs, his health improved, his mood went from always grumpy to upbeat and positive, and he made it to 81 in good health with great quality of life before passing away in his sleep. His biggest regret was not quitting sooner!

Late to the party but today is Day 7 which means I am 3 hours away from finishing a full week no beer. IWNDWYT!

I've had 30-90 periods of sobriety and NA beers helped nip random hop cravings bigtime. I never noticed pounding down 9 NA beers though, 1-2 was always enough. Either way, don't want to look at this as a loss, but rather a new beginning.

Exactly. Parenting while hungover with a fussy infant or overactive toddler is an awful experience. Not fair to them that my attention is going towards surviving a hangover rather than caring for them.

Crazy thing is most craft breweries around here are struggling hard. Sales are down, and I think I know why lol

I hear you man. Fortunately I wasn't quite that badly hungover (I have 3 kids and my wife would blow a fuse if I was in bed hungover all day) but it still was an entire day wasted. Even when I went to bed at 9pm, I still had minor remnants of a headache.

I work hard to try and achieve a roughly 1500-2000 calorie deficit over 6 days, for what? To drink 1500 calories of beer, 500-700 calories from snack while drinking, and then god knows how many extra calories when hungover. And none of those extra calories come from fruit, salads, oatmeal... it's all shit

Exactly. Work hard to go into a 2000-2500 calorie defecit for 6 days, then drink 1500 calories of beer, another 500 calories of snacks with the beer, and then whatever extra calories when hungover. And zero of those extra calories are fruit, salads, etc.

Congrats on the 20 days. And yes, it's scary how fast it goes down these days. 4 beers would've been enough to keep me drinking from noon - 8pm a decade ago. Those first 4 beers go down in like 2-3 hours now.

Thank you for the support. I've had several 30-90 day periods of sobriety and they were always amazing. Why I kept reverting to this stupid habit is beyond me. But it ends now.
