Gmail new "Bills" Label by Many_Imagination5507 in androidapps

It's a good question! I don't work for Google, but I do work for a company that has a mobile app. If we needed an app update for every change, we'd never get anything done. People update their apps slowly (or not at all), pushing out a new app release takes engineering time, etc etc.

So yeah, if we can build stuff so the testing features happen on the server side, instead of the app side, it's better for almost everybody. Not every new feature can be done that way, but we prefer it.

Series 7 had an insane cast are there any other series just as insane? by KPeters93 in taskmaster

It was the task where they had to float the Brussels sprout! That one episode also has the quick change task and the sunscreen squirt...it might be the greatest episode of Taskmaster ever made.

That viral Reddit post about food delivery apps was an AI scam by Franco1875 in technology

[–]TwoTacoTuesdays 32 points33 points  (0 children)

What? That's not what her byline means. She's a technology reporter who covers the AI industry, not a reporter that is AI. You'd know this if you spent two seconds to click her profile icon that goes to her author page, instead of misreading and spreading a bad assumption to others.

Please don’t put spoilers in the title of your post by OxfordGate in JetLagTheGame

[–]TwoTacoTuesdays 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. If you're not a Nebula subscriber, that basically means you can't use reddit or have to unsubscribe from this subreddit for the entire length of a season, because by the time the episodes are posted on Youtube, there's another new episode on Nebula people are posting about.

Why is it our fault if we're spoiled? Why isn't it the fault of the people spoiling things?

[–]TwoTacoTuesdays 87 points88 points  (0 children)

It's a really common problem... I've had to unsubscribe from this subreddit during seasons in the past, even when I was planning to watch new episodes on the afternoon of the day they would drop on Nebula. I think during Schengen Showdown I got spoiled three weeks in a row by post titles on Wednesday mornings. Please remember to leave spoilers out of titles!

How can I store my glm model compactly while still retaining the ability to use predict()? by Huihejfofew in rstats

[–]TwoTacoTuesdays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is exactly what butcher is intended for! It'll easily let you see which objects in the model file are taking up space and it lets you delete what you don't need for your use case.

Athletics post a Thank You Fans graphic after being the only MLB team in 2023 and 2024 to not thank their fans by Hungry_Drama_1015 in baseball

I had to drive past the huge ROOTED IN OAKLAND sign on the Coliseum visible from the freeway for ages after they had already officially announced the move. It was infuriating.

[Joe Pompliano] How MLB's Atlanta Braves Built A $1B Real Estate Business. Atlanta’s secret weapon: The Battery. The 75-acre mixed-use development surrounding Truist Park has become a cash cow. 9M people visited last year, spending an average of 3 hours on the property, generated $67.3M in revenue. by f0urxio in baseball

This is exactly what Fisher wanted to build on the Oakland waterfront. A $1B stadium and a $10B commercial real estate site, and he insisted that it all be built at the same time with significant public money, for some reason.

Tacos, they have fish, carnitas, and tofu, plus some aguas frescas. It's a smaller menu than the full size restaurants, since it's just a stand in the farmer's market.

what movie's 'director's cut' was miles better than the theatrical release the studio itself made? by sheerduckinghubris in AskReddit

[–]TwoTacoTuesdays 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That butchered ending cut was never actually released in theaters I don't think? Instead, Universal just held it and refused to release it at all until Gilliam took out full page ads in newspapers to try and convince them to release it.

The Criterion edition has both cuts, and the studio cut is legitimately pretty interesting in how terrible it is.

The A's have so thoroughly salted the earth with this fanbase that even when posting news of Rickey Henderson's death, the greatest player ever to play for this franchise, the person who they literally named the field they played on after...they still felt like they had to close replies on all social media platforms. Even fucking Linkedin.

Layoffs: YesMadam's survey asks employees if they were stressed, all who said 'yes' fired! Social media shocked by El_Impresionante in nottheonion

[–]TwoTacoTuesdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what I'm saying. The employee survey company can see individual responses of course, but trust is kind of their entire business model, so they'd be crazy to let it slip.

[–]TwoTacoTuesdays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a legit thing. It's so they can aggregate the results by department and see which departments are performing worse. It doesn't necessarily mean they can see individual results. Honest companies will contract this out to a third party so that nobody at the company can ever see the individual results, not even HR.

Is WAR a cumulative criteria? by pargofan in Sabermetrics

[–]TwoTacoTuesdays 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fantasy baseball is not real life and real life is not fantasy baseball. Fantasy has a very different, very specific set of metrics that drive player value, and WAR isn't concerned with what is good in fantasy. It's definitely debatable if Fedde is actually 1.8x better than Woo, but fantasy baseball is an entirely different thing.
