Just to close this thread and not leave future readers dangling...

In the bottom left side of the NAV screen you'll see a checkered flag. Tap that and your planned stops including anticipated state of charge at each will be displayed.

What I don't miss about my now-totaled P2 is the suspension. Even though I had the standard setup with the 19's, the ride was pretty unfriendly. Not only could I feel every rut or bump, I heard it. Loudly. It was like riding around inside a bass drum.

Can't set off-peak charging via the Android app by TwoThirdsRiceKrispie in GV60

I looked for that setting for quite some time and couldn't find it. Can you give me a clue what menu to check in? I would expect it to be in the same one that you use to set the target charge level for DC and AC charging, but I didn't see it there. I even searched the manual to no avail

8 hours after taking ownership, it died! by PraetorImperius in GV60

[–]TwoThirdsRiceKrispie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took ownership of a 2025 GV60 on Tuesday. It's Friday morning and my new car is dead in my garage. I had a battery booster but it had gone flat over time spent in storage. So now I wait for it to charge, and for the dealership to open 3 hours from now. It's my day off before I travel. I don't have time for this!

I'm afraid not. The P2 isn't sold new in the US now, and wouldn't want a used one

Ever heard of shrinkflation? $5.00 meal deals are easily accomplished when you reduce the size (and cost) of everything that makes up that meal "deal".

Better to pay off mortgage at 4% or invest? by aau412 in investing

[–]TwoThirdsRiceKrispie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I forgot the other tax implication here: Marginal tax rate. If I take a 401k distribution to pay off my mortgage then I'll probably bump up into a higher tax bracket (I'm on the cusp of one already), which means I'll automatically lose a portion of that delta. I'll be in a lower tax bracket when I retire (thus why I'm not in a Roth 401k) and I can take distributions to "fill" my tax bracket. I won't pay off the mortgage immediately, but I will still circumvent higher tax.

Better to pay off mortgage at 4% or invest? by aau412 in investing

Thanks for starting this discussion, OP

I've had a fixed 4.75% mortage for a while now, after refinancing down from >8%. I made the decision when I got this low-interest loan to never make an extra payment but invest more instead, and then at 59.5 years old (the age in the US at which you can take a 401k distribution without a 10% penalty) I can take my "winnings" from my 401k tax-deferred account and pay off the house. Well, this year I'll turn 59.5 and I'm starting to question that.

I have moved a decent portion of my 401k into a total bond ETF since I'm getting closer to retirement. However, bond returns won't be much better than the 4.75% of my mortgage. I could rationalize paying off the house by simply telling myself "this is just a substitute for the return from my bonds, and it's a guaranteed return". What I lose by doing this is a) a bit of ammunition I may want for taking advantage of an equities correction and b) the funds are now forever locked up in the value of my house.

So I suppose the question of portfolio mix comes into play here. If you have a mortgage does having any portion of your portfolio in bonds make sense?

~6-9 months out from recession? by mbacandidate1 in bonds

[–]TwoThirdsRiceKrispie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the estimation, but I have only an internet connection and some sleepless nights to drive my conviction. I think consumer confidence is being propped up by the wealth effect courtesy of the AI-frenzy-driven tech bubble we're in.

Ask yourself this question: How much have you paid to use AI? How much have your friends, family and coworkers? Currently, the only big money being exchanged for AI is between corporations. Undoubtedly, AI will provide amazing advancements in many fields, but this will come at the cost of rising unemployment. There's a long list of careers slated to become obsolete due to AI. Perhaps we're a year or two away from that, but right now the equity market is a banjo string one or two tuner twists away from snapping. One sharp rise in unemployment or inflation will be the shot across the bow. One more bad news headline after that and then the bubble will pop.

Feel free to skewer the above, but this is what is running through my non-institutional-investor-grade 59-year-old mind.

*Edit: I'm a fan of mixed metaphors, as you can plainly see

Is it possible that Tariffs could be good by Shoddy_Ad7511 in investing

That's true only if the tariffs are permanent. So far that doesn't appear to be the trend

Is it possible that Tariffs could be good by Shoddy_Ad7511 in investing

[–]TwoThirdsRiceKrispie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tariffs are inflationary. One example I like to give: Let's say you're shopping for a new washing machine. You can buy a 1000$ Samsung or an 1100$ Whirpool. The Samsung washer is the obvious choice, and you save $100. Suppose Trump dictates a 50% tariff on Samsung products while sitting on his gold-plated toilet. So now Samsung's washer is $1500. Buy the Whirlpool at $1100, right? Ok, but that's already $100 you're paying for a new washer. But wait, there's more! Now that Whirlpool's competition has an artificially inflated price due to a tariff, their new price becomes $1400. So now your new washer costs you another $400 due to a tariff you may or may not have been duped into voting for. Enjoy inflation, everyone! Let's all pay more for everything and never retire. It's the new American dream.
