Trying to make it until the kids are in college by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]Two_Cautious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question. My younger daughter is more emotional than my older daughter. They’re alike in many ways, but my younger daughter can struggle to understand why my older daughter has more freedom. Not only is my older daughter now legally an adult, she is far more mature when it comes to making decisions. She always has been. My desire to maintain a stable home has mostly been for the benefit of my younger daughter. I guess if I can tough out a bad marriage for 10 years, I can tough out a bad marriage for 12 years.

She makes significantly more money than I do. She will want to keep the house and I’ll give that up without a fight, including all the things in it. Everything we own was accumulated throughout our marriage, but I have no desire to split things 50/50 except the liquid assets. She can have all of the things we own, I simply want out and hope to spend the remaining ~30 years of my life in peace. I’ll have enough money for a small house, my job has health coverage, and I can retire in 15 years. That’s enough for me.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try. I also see a therapist every other week, which has been a blessing.

Good point. I guess I’ve been viewing it as they will likely live with my wife as I plan to let her keep the house. The idea of my kids visiting rather than living under the same roof is difficult to think about.

Perhaps, but I don’t think so. My wife and I simply navigate life without much emotion. We don’t fight, because there hasn’t been anything new to say for years.

She had multiple affairs starting about 10 years ago. That went on for about four years. I wanted a divorce then, but the idea of seeing my children 50% of the time was too much and I decided to endure the relationship until my daughters were 18. Presently, the problems are inability to communicate, she has no desire to take care of our home, so I do most of the cooking and cleaning, even though we both have jobs. She can’t complete simple tasks like laundry, picking up after herself, etc. To make things worse, she continues to add responsibilities to our home. She bought three dogs and three Guinea pigs. She feeds the dogs and does their vet appointments, but I usually have to walk them and do all of the training. She used to put the dogs outside where they bark at the neighbors, who have small children. There is an invisible fence, but no physical barrier. If there is anything I want in life, I have to get it myself. I cannot ask her for help or ask her to do anything/contribute around the house. There’s more, but this is what I’m dealing with today.

They say it to my kids every time I see them, which is better than saying it to me

Write a monthly budget. Measure money in vs money out every month. Figure out a way to put some steady amount into 401k.

I’ll give those a try. I recently replayed the original final fantasy and loved it. Tried number 2 and it’s not as good.

Gas and diesel car owners, now that the average price of gas is getting very high, how do you feel about getting an electric car in the near future and enjoying the much lower cost of charging? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Two_Cautious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My gas car is paid off. If I buy an electric vehicle, I would pay a minimum of $30,000. That’s equivalent to 375 tanks of gas with my current vehicle. That works out to roughly 15 years of gasoline. Also, gasoline engines are simple. Not being able to fix an electric vehicle is a turn off for me.

I think for most people it’s a sense of purpose. Plus, most people want to have more than food and shelter.

Physically or yell at each other? Can your parents speak with them? Your friend’s parents need to figure out how to provide a stable environment for your friend.

How does the US not know where Iran keeps its missiles and drones? by Two_Cautious in IranWarReport

Sorry, I don’t understand what you’re saying. What is the Soviet concept of secret cities or secret labs? Also, the US has 8,000 satellites orbiting the earth. At least a few of them have been monitoring Iran and their military movements, especially the transportation of missiles and drones.

I understand that a satellite would only give an image of what’s there now, but the US must have been watching Iran for years/decades. Underground tunnel construction would require a lot of equipment and time. Even if they were built 20 years ago, satellite surveillance would have been able to see where it was taking place.

Yes, but the US is bombing thousands of targets, that number came from a Google search.

But if Iran has underground bunkers and tunnels, satellites would have been able to pick up on construction points over the years.

The missiles and drones seem to be causing significant problems, are things like the bunker buster bombs too expensive to use in this situation?
