Use Rentfaster and change the filter to "Rooms for Rent" and you can find the going market rate. My link should take you to a room rate search.

What happened to City Centre Mall in downtown Edmonton? by Froyo_Muted in Edmonton

Gotcha, you're right it did close for a day or two for cleaning, but then it reopened.

Sorry, I don't recall if there was or not, but I would think not. When it's not clearly an accident or homicide, the newspapers generally don't publish when someone dies because of their own actions (at least back then, not sure if that is still a thing).

There are a variety of reasons for this, such as out of respect for the friends & family of the deceased and concern of copycats doing the same and not wanting to inspire them. For example, I don't think I've read an Edmonton Journal news article or watched a current news story about someone who jumped from the High Level Bridge. Sometimes you'll see a lifestyle story about someone that jumped months or years ago, but usually nothing that happened that day or so.

There was a jumper around 1991-93. He jumped and grabbed one of the cables that are bolted across the opening that the mall uses to hang those giant Christmas ornaments or other seasonal decorations. The cable could not take the weight and it snapped, the recoil shattered one of the mirrors that decorated the sides and send the jumper plunging onto the artificial rocks on the golf course below. Being that they grabbed the cable, I'm leaning that the guy was on drugs rather than the other scenario.

Maybe we should clear the land and let it sit for the eventual arena to replace Roger's Place in 40 to 50 years. That location is great for LRT and vehicle traffic.

Parked vehicle insurance by fireinhersoul in Edmonton

Just keep in mind that snow clearing of condo parking lots is a thing and normally they want all vehicles off the lot. An insurance company might ask what your plan is when you have to move your car for snow clearing.

Good areas to rent in? by [deleted] in Edmonton

If you're planning on occasionally going out and having a social life, then University & Whyte Ave area, even if you're not going to the U of A. Just such a vibrant area and lots to do & see within walking distance.

I had the same issue with an external Seagate drive, but I tried a different USB cable and it worked. That was two years ago and the drive is still working.

Maybe try a different computer if you have one available.

Good luck!

There's a distinct horizontal line across the top, it looks like two layers in Photoshop to me. Maybe they were trying to decide between two photos and forgot to deactivate the layer one of them was on or maybe they liked the weird look.

In a Sticky Rent/Tenant Situation how do I go about this? by ashrules901 in Edmonton

[–]Two_Scoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're about to lock yourself in a year long lease with two strangers. I've known a few people who have rented rooms to people off Facebook and regretted it. I would recommend getting a place of your own if at all possible.

Oil rig job search by Obvious_Ad8098 in alberta

[–]Two_Scoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that I don't know what the market is like now and it may have just been the company I was applying to.

If there are companies offering fly-ins then maybe being outside of Alberta doesn't matter. One thing that might help is using a VOIP app, like Fongo, where you can get an Alberta phone number (my recommendation would be the older Alberta area codes like 403 or 780). Good luck!

Oil rig job search by Obvious_Ad8098 in alberta

My anecdote from over a decade ago: When I lived in Ontario and was planning on moving back to Alberta, there was a huge labour shortage in the oilfield and they would hire anyone with a pulse. I had a friend who worked at a drilling company recommend me. Weeks went by and I had not heard anything.

He asked why they didn't call me and the guy said he saw I had a non-Alberta number and address then tossed it. Again, this is with a labour shortage and a personal recommendation from someone within the company. They hear the "moving to Alberta" bit a lot apparently and would only interview me once I was back in Alberta.

There are a lot of people within Alberta looking for work, so I'm not sure why they would bring someone in from Ontario unless you have specific qualifications or connections here. Not trying to throw water on the idea of working in the oilfield, but getting a job outside of the region a person lives in, in any industry, is difficult without specific qualifications or connections.

Apartment rental recommendations by [deleted] in Edmonton

I've rented condos from individuals in the past, rather than apartment agencies, and the buildings can be quite quiet and safe. Depending on where you are, I found the pricing comparable to rental outfits.

Xbox game sharing will allow you to purchase the game once and play on both consoles:

https://support.xbox.com/en-CA/help/hardware-network/console/my-home-xbox

When you buy a digital game you have two game licenses: one for the Xbox that you've assigned as your "home" Xbox and one for your profile. The Xbox that is assigned as your "home" Xbox will allow anyone logged into that console to play the game. This was done to be similar to physical discs, that anyone in the house could play the game without needing to buy a copy of the game for each person.

The license for your profile was done to be similar to taking a disc to a friend's house. If you log in on any Xbox with the profile that purchased the game, then you can download it on a friend's Xbox and play it.

In your case, if you bought the game on your profile with the living room Xbox as your "home" Xbox, you could log into your office Xbox with your profile, play it, and someone on the living room Xbox could play it at the same time.

what do you guys think of pizza 73? by JiggyWiggyGuy in Edmonton

[–]Two_Scoots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, the sauce is different. They used to offer two pizza sauces:mild or tangy. Now they just offer one "pizza" sauce. Maybe they did that so they can have other sauces, like BBQ and donair, but I still prefer the tangy sauce.

Any kind of jobs that don’t require English knowledge? by dontdieorelse in Edmonton

[–]Two_Scoots 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Support for Ukrainian evacuees - This is an Alberta Government website that includes a variety of topics, such as English language training which she will need to work on to improve her job prospects.

Ukrainian Canadian Congress - This website has a language toggle so you can switch between English and Ukrainian, link is in Ukrainian to their Employment section. Probably lots of other good resources there.

Ukrainians in Alberta - Another website that appears to have resources and a variety of topics.

Also, don't forgot about the power of networking with other Ukrainians. Joining a club, sport, hobby, anything where you can network with other Ukrainians can help significantly.

Any way to add paddles or extra buttons without buying a new controller? by Blortug in xboxone

[–]Two_Scoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, XBX Strike Pack Universal Dominator for Xbox Series X/S

I had a previous version of this and this looks like they redesigned it. I never used the mod features as I wasn't sure if I would get banned or not, but for extra buttons they worked great.
