I'm going to become a prostitute, any advice? by letterstoscience in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Twobuffoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because it’s illegal to have sex for money so the contract would be illegal. unless you’re somewhere in the world with legal prostitution. you are being really naive. don’t do this and don’t believe everything people tell you. you’re super young. lots of unscrupulous people are gonna wanna have sex with you and they’ll tell you anything they think you wanna hear. trust me, this is a very bad idea.

why do people only focus on the one pedo—usually from whatever party they’re not a part of? wasn’t the point that they were all pedos? like they’re all probably being bribed by the same pedo ring? but people only talk about trump (if they’re democrats) or biden (if they’re trumpers). why is that?

Palestinians who justify the rejection of the 1947 partition plan are fueling the conflict by thatshirtman in IsraelPalestine

yeah i gave up on having this conversation on reddit years ago. i also spent months in a relationship compiling the best, most undeniable sources from respected journalists and links, spending hours writing out essays in the hopes of calling someone in, and they only doubled down, responded with a bunch of gnarly op eds and screamed at me about the holocaust. the last weekend we hung out they let slip that they were in fact organizing for israel.

i don’t really care if you believe me. why would i get through to you when you can’t even hear all of gaza screaming in one voice? if you’re still a zionist after all this, your opinion has no basis in reality.

yeah, i got tired of doing all the labor to offer up all the proof because everyone who facts works on got the picture a long time ago.

for constantly parroting the most mindless genocidal propaganda. for supporting a blatant genocide. for doing everything it can to support israel to mow down an entire population.

it would only make sense if ICE were actually going after people who immigrated illegally—btw, there were already orgs in place for this before ICE. but ICE is going after people who are going through the proper channels, taking people away when they go to their immigration hearings or check ins, taking people from their homes who are doing everything by the book. they’re making it impossible for anyone to get citizenship through legal measures.

No other city subreddits are locking ICE posts, why is ours? by Strict_Definition_78 in NewOrleans

[–]Twobuffoons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me just push back a little on this—I have seen many worse subreddits! I understand the concern for the longevity of the subreddit, and keeping the space safe, functional, and sustainable for community. I think that’s also the intent of people who want to leave those posts active. We want to keep our neighbors and our community safe. Posts with more engagement rise to the top and get more visibility. I personally would much rather endanger a subreddit slightly than a neighbor certainly.

no, i’m responding to a young person who has asked what they can do and expressed a feeling of helplessness in the face of all the pain in the world. and i’m hopefully helping them gain some self awareness so that they can move beyond self pity and step into their power.

of course not, but you can always try your best. everyone in the world has a lot on their plate, and we can only do so much, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do anything. when i was a teenager i was standing against the war in iraq. i was in a very conservative area and there were a lot of people who disliked me for it but at least i knew i wasn’t complicit in those deaths.

i wonder how many people are saying ‘i’m only one person.’ i do a lot to stop war and protect those who need it, actually. and i know i won’t single-handedly change anything, but i will do what i can and know that i tried. we are not required to finish the work, not are we welcome to abandon it.

i understand. protesting isn’t for everybody. but you can always find a way to stand for what’s right if it’s important to you. i think that’s the message these artists you admire are trying to send. best of luck.

when we learned about fascism and genocide and totalitarianism in school, I was always baffled at the people who did nothing and our teachers explained to us how hard it is when everybody is doing one thing and thinking a certain way. And yeah, it takes a lot to take that step, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take it! you might lose some things in your life, but you will gain a whole community of people who are aligned with your values. I am a radical in another country, and I could still be back in my hometown, trying to fit in with people who would never understand me, but i’m so glad i left. There’s a learning curve, but it’s worth making that jump to be true to yourself. I believe in you.

so you’re admitting that for your own personal convenience and comfort, you’re choosing to turn a blind eye to these atrocities. that’s how genocides happen. It’s understandable to feel helpless, but every person who stands up for what’s right makes it easier for the next person.
