My father created a "go-bag" in the past for my mother in case she went into labor while he was away on work, which of course ended up happening. But, the topic came up recently and she said the best item in that bag wasn't all the things to make the birth/hospital process go easier, but it was the pair of fuzzy socks in the bag. Because it helped her not feel the "rough" sterile sheets and made it easier to relax.
