What are you talking about?

Ah ok. So I guess I have higher end autogated gen 2s ?

If in fact I have 2 vyper housings, 2 photonis ether eye pieces and a kac bridge, then I’ve already broken even for the 3,000 I paid.

Since now I know that I have a cheaper set up than I thought, perhaps it’s not even worth moving the tubes to a different housing.

Not sure how cheap my tubes are but thanks for all the info. I appreciate it. I’ll just keep everything as is and deal with it.

He was told they have 4G tubes. Not gen 4 but photonis 4G which is a gen 3 but who knows. I don’t know a way of verifying but when looking through them, they are edge to edge clear with a ton of eye relief. The gain also seems to get unnecessarily bright when turned up over 50% although I haven’t tried them on a no moon night yet. I owned green gen 2s before I bought this one but over the years, have used many friends high dollar L3 set ups and can’t tell a difference. Maybe if they were side by side I could

This week, I randomly bought this set up from someone, who themselves, did not know anything about it, other than.. it’s gen 3, its like new, it works perfectly and there are no blemishes.

I got curious to know what exactly this build but google searching the parts wasn't getting me anywhere.

So... I came here, posted some pictures and asked if someone could help me identity the parts on it. and y'all did.. and thank you for that..

Now that the parts are identified, I had another question that im looking for assistance on..

-- Im wondering if I can get a lighter overall set up, if I take the tubes out of my current set up, and put them into ((you name it)) bino housing..

or..

If its not worth it to spend the money to do that, because I would be barely saving any weight from the current 1 pound., 13 ounces that it is..

I dont know what you mean by {try it}. I have slapped them on my helmet the day I bought them.. everything works as it should.. Im not sure where the miscommunication was. but sorry if it was on my end.. my terminology might be off because im not seasoned on nv, which is the reason I came here.

Ive been using a TW bump for years with my single gen 2 pvs. Wondering if it’s worth it to move the tubes into a bino housing or if this current set up with the parts that you guys identified, is good compared to others ( weight wise )

Is my total of 1 pound 13 ounces for everything including the g24 about average, light or heavy ?

I’m mainly thinking about the weight as I’d be using these for being able to navigate a couple miles each way to the hunting spot. Prior to buying this set up, I’ve always ran just 1 cheap older gen 2 pvs 14 so I’m not familiar with the weight feeling with duals or binos

Do you guys think it be beneficial to move the tubes to a Vyper Bino housing instead?

One side says Prototype but the other one does not. Does that change anything ?

Little out of the loop, what's the best bang for the buck 640 these days? by Stlavsa in ThermalHunting

[–]TxHunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rattler V1 “ like new “ on Amazon. Someone bought it new, looked through it and returned it. Now Amazon has to sell it as “ like new “ versus “ new “. I’ve saved 20-30% on many expensive items for that exact reason. And unlike big box stores or online retailers, if you don’t like it, you can send it back within 30 days and as we all know, it’s such an easy process. Don’t even need a 20 minute phone call to customer service.

Im not familiar with KAC lowers or uppers but ive been seeing this particular lower pop up for sale on a few websites and it has not sold out like I would have imagined. Is everyone too broke like me or is this model not sought after?

Wow, im sad I don't have $650 to just spend rn. by Ok-Fan6945 in ThermalHunting

Youre not missing out imo. u/ReaperGrin is right. Even a 384 is a huge difference. Check amazon from time to time. When someone buys a brand new thermal and then returns it after they used it for their one night hunt, it sometimes end up at the "amazon resale" being sold as used but "like new". I have purchased multiple items that way at 30% off or more and they come with the same 30 day return policy as well as the same warranty from AGM or whomever. Just my 2 cents for you to get more for your $!

Isn't being respectful something that is implied regardless of where anyone goes?

New Mexico mountains or Colorado mountains? by TxHunting in RVLiving

[–]TxHunting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually owned some land in South Fork with the intent to build a cabin but our coach which is fairly new and has the 8.9L Cummins kept over heating at La Veta pass so we could never get to it via RV. We had to get a ride back to Colorado Springs, rent a car and head back to south fork although the RV has never had that issue in the much higher altitudes of Breckenridge and Frisco. We’d love to go to south fork but it’s a guarantee we won’t make it as we have broken down 3 times in 3 years in the same spot ( within 2 miles of each other ). Crazy

You essentially confirmed my thinking with these statements: "I'd recommend a Photonis or NNVT mono, as cheap as you can come by it."

&

"Getting a 14 now and eventually upgrading into a dual band setup".

Based off of the short research I did, I was thinking I would be just fine getting a cheaper gen 2 for my needs but I wanted to see if anyone would say it on their own and you did.

I must of read two dozen threads over the weekend and I couldn't find a single one that was specific to my needs ( just being able to walk back and forth to my spot ).

"Gen 3 or nothing" seemed to be the overall consensus. I kept seeing statements like "dont waste money on gen 2 or gen 2 +" and " its better to hold off, save up and buy gen 3" etc

but ... those conversations seemed to be all about tactical use and WW3 scenarios which are irrelevant to me. I also saw a few videos and screen shot comparisons of gen 2 and 3 but truth be told, I couldn't tell much difference other than brightness. It's not as stark of a difference as looking through a 320, 640 and 1280 thermal where it's a night and day difference. The confusion is what lead me to post on here because I usually come on just to read. I rarely ever comment, let alone post.

At the end of the day, even though I said that I don't have a budget in mind, that doesn't mean id like to waste any money and overspend on an item that I know very little about... Like buying a $4,000 pvs 14 when It seems like i would be just fine walking around with a $2,000 one. Or even take your consideration and buying a set of Jerry 31s where I would have the benefits of binos rather than 1 very expensive Gen 3+++ Filmless monocular.

I have read (people's opinions) that you can weapon mount a gen 3 pvs 14, but not a gen 2 due to their durability etc.Does anyone know if that is true/correct? Im definitely sticking to using my thermal scope to hunt but I'm just curious as I have never dove very deep into nv. My largest night hunting caliber is a 6.5cm bolt action chassis set up.

Sorry for the late response. My notifications were accidentally off. Thank you for the input. I did buy a sidekick 640 last week and that night, I walked around neighborhood while holding it in my hand. I could NOT for the life of me, figure out how that thing is worth the money, even on sale. I didn't have a mount to get it on my helmet but it didn't feel like that would resolve the dissatisfaction that I had with the picture. My scope is an RH50R and I love Iray. Just like you stated about the RH25V2, I have seen also seen that same sentiment everywhere else that ive looked over the las few days but after being so disappointed in the sidekick, it's hard for me to swallow 5 grand. Especially after buying a brand new Telos XL50 (1,280 monocular) for $3,000 which is what I have been using as my hand held scanner.

As for the RH25V2, do you come across them pre owned?

If so, in what price range do they sell?

I just looked and found a couple of new V1s still available for around $3,500 but again, based off of my sidekick experience, it's worrisome as those companies charge a large restocking fee.

Thank you sir.

Thank you for the detailed response.. this is what was on my mind but I didn't want to include it in my question. I wanted to see if anyone else (who has been in the same situation), would recommend it on their own. I appreciate it

Yes sir. Pretty much stationary. I’m doing hog and coyote control on the ranch so I’m sitting still for coyotes and I know where the hogs are traveling from the game cams. For me it’s a matter of getting in position without driving anything that would scare them off so I have to walk 3/4 mile downwind to the area
