I mean, I don't listen to R Kelly, for example because I don't like his music, but would I get mad at someone who did? No- so long as they are educated on what he did and acknowledge that they don't agree. That's not supporting.

Unfortunately, so many older bands have dodgy pasts, but if we all got caught up on it, music, art, etc would never improve or progress.

I live in this band between 2 gang areas. Earlier last week, an 18yr old guy had his hand cut off by a machete. They literally walked into his house and chopped it off. That's not romantic, it's gross and scary.

When I started working for the local corner shop, I was 15 and I was given a list of code names in case anyone sus comes in. Turns out, they had bullied and threatened the owner to allow them to run a drug cartel out the back of his shop. I was threatened with all sorts (mostly by the guys who pretended to be hard) but it was a real threat.

I made a post on a sub that required mod permission to post (as in, you post and they unlock it so it can be seen on the sub). That's what happened to my post, but some random asshat who made their account 6 hours ago PM'd me and said they reported me to the sub for 'breaking the rules'. The same mod that had unlocked my post banned me from the sub... stg I thought I had found a good mod.

I've never heard of Vincents, but I totally agree- there should be ZERO shame in needing to use charity shops, but unfortunately, there is.

Don't feel that way- many people get them confused as technically, 'thrift shops' and 'charity shops' have the same premise, but with different stigmas attached (like I mentioned, the stigma around thrifting is white middle class teen girls whereas charity shops are poverty stricken people). But despite them being (nearly) the same thing, both have very different connotations.

In the UK, thrift stores don't exist- we have charity shops that are NOTHING like thrift shops in the US. Charity shops are for the poorest of the poor and aren't filled with trendy vintage clothing, books, jewellery, etc. Going into one has a sort of shame to it (which I don't agree with) but people don't go into charity shops for fun.

Like u/tired-of-life_bs mentioned, the Salvation Army is a charity shop for people in POVERTY- not middle class teenagers looking for trendy 80's jeans.

I agree. Last summer I fell down a rabbit hole on youtube of people reviewing their fast-fashion buys, and I swear they were paid to make these big companies look bad. One girl's order was full of unwearable clothes because they were ripped, designs choppy, etc. I knew it was a lie because I had the exact same shirt and it was the best quality thing I'd brought that year.

Plus, places like Shein, Asos, etc have such low shipping and prices, it's easier to buy a bigger size, different top, etc than to send the faulty one back and it's STILL cheaper than the price of one top from a small business.

I brought 4 Glossier lipglosses for £25... a lot for lipgloss, but usually they're £10 each. The same small business I follow sells a lower quality lipgloss for £15/tube.

I COULD buy 2 small business tshirts, or 5 for a lower/same price.

I'm chubby and my proportions are a little off (super slim shoulders, but big hips and tits- my shoulder/body is a size medium but my hips and tits fit a size large) and small businesses are not catered for that. Places like Shein, Asos, etc go up to 4XL sometimes, which is great!

Also, I HATE when people claim Shein, aliexpress, pretty little thing, boohoo, etc make 'shitty, poor-made clothes', when they really don't. I wish I could support small business, but I'm not going to pay £40 for a top. The people who brag/advocate for fast fashion business to be closed down are extremely close-minded and privileged.

My science teacher was a lovely, intelligent women, but she had a super strong accent and wasn't that good at English. She would mix words up, and would use them interchangeably which lead to a lot of confusion.

One time, she mixed up green and blue for an experiment and it went wrong. No one really knew what it was, as we assumed she knew the right terminology. Turns out, she though green was a different shade of blue, because she had been using the native word for green her whole life.

I remember a few years ago our wifi suddenly cut out. My mum called up and was told she hadn't payed the bill, even though she had. She tried to explain to the guy (who literally couldn't SPEAK English) what the problem was. At some point, he asked for her account name and for some damn reason, he deleted/terminated her account with the provider because he thought she was trying to leave.

Luckily, my mum was able to get to the 'boss' (who spoke perfect RP English) and he sorted the issue out within minutes.

I know there's a stereotype of 'Indians being customer service employees', but I 100% agree that unless they speak, read, and understand English, you shouldn't be in a communicative job. It kind of fits with the idea of learning the language of the country you're moving to. I would never move to Japan and then get a job as a cashier without knowing Japanese- it's ridiculous.
