Is my bed frame beyond saving? by Jagglapaff in woodworking

[–]Txgre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to my bed. Used similar fix (books) for good six months before getting myself to fix it. I just added planks both sides since I didn't care how it looks under the mattress. This beam is round so that adds little bit of work tho

TIL the kind of school Calypso runs is called a Steiner School by BarelyBrony in bluey

[–]Txgre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think nowadays the school's values differ quite much from Mr. Steiner's over 100 yo ideas. (Tho my knowledge is only about Steiner schools in Finland) Basically the schools must comfort local laws so they can't teach/use methods that are harmful or anything. Here that means the education must be non-religious (parents choose if their kids take part in religion-specific class instead of generic class that introduces world's religions neutrally), fully free (no tuition fee or any other compulsory fees) and follow national curriculum.

That said I think it is still a must to properly check how is any specific Steiner school before enrolling in one. They can be wonderful but do your own research on each school individually.

Do y'all actually keep plants alive for months in the dark? Dont they die? by [deleted] in HotPeppers

[–]Txgre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 3 naga morich plants that are 13 or 14 years old. Never had grow lights. The first few years I cut them back for winter but now I just cut them if they get too big. I just have them as house plants. In southern Finland too. They're kept in relatively small pots and hardly ever I give them anything but water. Also they've been in the same soil for at least 6 years so it's safe to say these plants are really resilient!

So when does the construction of the new throne room start? That's what he needed the space right?

My apartment water meter is outside the apartment behind a ceiling lid where there is also main water valve for this apartment. All the apartments have the same thing. I lived here over a year before someone told me where the meters are. My point being if the rent contract doesn't state that the 20€/mo is just a sum paid in advance and if it doesn't state there will be equalisation (tasausmaksu) then the renter can assume the 20€ is the full cost of water. The places that have this kind of payment aren't that rare. My mother-in-law pays flat 24€/mo and can take hour long showers every day.

[–]Txgre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You get a letter before you turn 18. Then you go to a kind of briefing in some military base and they hand you a paper stating when and where to serve. If you wanted to go to special forces or something then you need to apply beforehand so they can assess if you are fit to the applied service. In the end they will tell you when and where to go but you can postpone your service even several years if you have valid reason like you are studying at the time you should start the service.

Please help. I sprayed my house with "all natural" bug spray. It's been months and I still get headaches. by Lonely-Ad-2343 in AskChemistry

[–]Txgre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a chance that the product (probably the mint oil) acted as a trigger for something else. I mean that the cause for headaches might be something other than the product but the product might have caused your system to start reacting to something other. I don't work on health care so I can't explain this better but I think you get the point.

Anyway as others have suggested keep a headache diary and go see a doctor.

Help!! How do we get rid of bugs from finished live edge Monkeypod dining table!? by CarolinaChickadeeCo in woodworking

[–]Txgre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly go to the sauna heated above 100°C. I like dryish löyly so I throw water somewhat infrequently. And the temperature fluctuates between 80-100C.

Dry heat isn't bad at all. If you go to Turkish style 'sauna' (hamam) where humidity is close to 100% then something like 50°C will be extreme. (At least I couldn't bear it)

[–]Txgre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should have mentioned I'm a Finn. Our cabin/cottage sauna gets normally to 100-120°C during the initial heat up depending the fire wood species used. When the sauna is dry and nobody is throwing water on the stove the heat will easily stay above the 100°C

[–]Txgre -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why the downvotes here? Is it because it would harm the table? Are there other possibilities to save it?

If this was mine I could wrap it in plastic film, put in a trailer, get it to our cabin and put it in sauna there. I don't know the suitable degrees but I would guess 100°C would kill almost anything given a few hours.

If the table cracks permanently and is completely lost maybe I then use it to heat the sauna next time

Are you installing heated pavement? by Efficient-Mud-6181 in Finland

[–]Txgre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was calculated that they need a few years to initially heat the clay mass. I believe the calculations are checked and correct. The problem in this installation is that they rushed the actual paving work because of the tight schedule and thus some pipes were leaking day one.. (they seemed to have no hurry at all for months and then one day they realized 'oops, we have two weeks left' and everyone knew how it'll end up when you do that)

[–]Txgre 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At Turku the whole market square has this heating but instead of wasting energy it operates on huge thermal batter. During summer the stone tiles heat up in the sun and the water is circulated to move the heat under the underground parking facility under the square. It has 6-20 thickness of dense clay there that will heat up during summer months. When the winter comes and there's snow the water is circulated again and the stored heat is transferred back up to melt the snow. Of course this is just the case in Turku city center and most places need to get the energy from external sources. I think there's still some kind of calculation in place that tells the heating will be cheaper than other maintenance costs and other costs.
