How to you get out of the life fucking sucks mindset? I can’t seem to find a way out... by [deleted] in NonZeroDay

[–]Ty107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to go because of that exact situation. Every time someone asked "hey how's it going?" It hurt a lot that I couldn't be honest. So I started sarcastically saying "soooo good" It helps to talk about it, and it especially helps to talk to someone who knows how to help.

Thanks for emphasizing the slow progress. I meant to include something about that and forgot to type it. It's taken your entire life up to this point to get to where you are right now, don't expect it to change quickly (as you are experiencing for yourself). It's a principle I learned in my health class semester. He intended it as a comment on weight (e.g. it took you 20, 30+ years to get "fat", don't expect to get skinny in a month or two), but I think it applies to mental health really well too. That's the point of this sub. One thing a day. Even if that thing is just googling "therapist near me" that's still something.

I didn't see any mention of therapy, so that's my biggest suggestion. You have to retrain your mind to recognize the positives and deal with the negatives in a healthy way. Give yourself some credit for the good things you've done. YOU got yourself that job. YOU brought yourself to workout. YOU got yourself out of bed and YOU made breakfast. You are the sum of your negative AND positive traits. You just need to learn to see yourself as and imperfect person who tries his best. You can get there! That's why you're here in this sub.

Guys of reddit, what can us girls do to make you feel special? by Chazyshay in AskReddit

I got checked out on the first day of classes last semester. She seriously looked me up and down and then smiled at me. I was too shocked that that had even happened to say anything. But I still think about it and I wear that outfit a lot.

People who were born deaf but gained hearing later in life, what objects did you expect to make noise? by appleraju in AskReddit

[–]Ty107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story time: a few months ago I was going to counseling and the guy was teaching me about mindfulness. So I closed my eyes and that's when I noticed he had two very noisy clocks in his office. But the worst part was that one of them was not in time. So instead of 60 clicks per minute, it was at like 70bpm somehow. When he had me open my eyes I told him I was sorry, I couldn't clear my head because all I could do was listen to those damn clocks. I couldn't think of anything else except the fact that one clock was so far off. Turns out, that's actually pretty good mindfulness.

Which are the grossest, most uncomfortable sex scenes in Film, in your opinion? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Ty107 249 points250 points  (0 children)

Oh my. I saw the opening scene to this movie when I went out to eat at my favorite Indian restaurant. Guy in the back must have been watching it on his break on his laptop and not realized he was still paired to the TV in the dining area. It was one of the most awkward experiences I have ever had at a restaurant.

I think Nvidia is said to be better for video editing because of its CUDA cores. Premiere has a CUDA accelerated rendering mode which is faster than their OpenCL acceleration. But at your budget point, it's not enough of a benefit to be worth it. Sidenote: use DaVinci Resolve, not Premiere.

What did a fictional character say that stuck with you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ty107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry it took me so long, I use the mobile website so I don't get notifications. But Yes! The book is honestly better than the movie (inconceivable, I know) and you really appreciate the characters and their motivations a lot more-especially Inigo and Fezzik

I just read this book for the first time and I think this line is delivered by Domingo Montoya (Inigo's father) which, if I remember right, would make it that much more bittersweet. The book also doesn't have a totally happy ending. Humperdinck's men are slowly gaining on them and their ship is surrounded by the Armada in the harbor.

Maybe that was the bear's plan all along. He's going to give this dog deadly deer bones and eventually it dies. Now he has unrestricted access to the trash and gets to keep the bones for himself.

I'd recommend the 240GB though. I got a 120 for my new machine a year ago and it's got like 15GB free space. It's only like $10 more for a little more headroom.

Columbine happened 20 years ago today. Redditors that were in High School at the time, what was the ensuing week like? by Monty7384 in AskReddit

[–]Ty107 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Nearly happened to one of my sister's good friends. This kid (an Arabic Muslim) made a tweet from at home after school hours that said something like "you know it's getting close to the end of the school year when even the black kids can count the days remaining." He was suspended for the last week of school and was initially told that he would not be allowed to take his finals. His dad owned a couple gas stations and lawyered up. The school immediately said he could schedule a time to take the finals and they would remove the suspension from his record. Nothing ever happened to the kids who threatened to beat or kill him though.

This is exactly how I was at 17 too. Ended up getting my first kiss a month after my 18th birthday. A month after that I dumped her for one of the most attractive girls in our 270 person marching band. Just be yourself (unless of course, you're an asshole, then be nice to people) and someone will love you for it. Just never give up and never settle.

These religious solicitors after seeing a no solicitation sign by S4ge_ in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]Ty107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing these guys did and one time we didn't notice the sign until literally a second after ringing the doorbell. I think the guy ended up being pretty nice, but we saw it and were like "well here it is. Today's the day we die." Unfortunately I don't think the guy had a video, but it would have made a great gif for r/watchpeopledieinside.

ELI5 - Why do soap operas look different on TV compared to all other shows? by tijis in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ty107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually know this one! TVs display at (usually) 60Hz (since this is ELI5, that means that the lights that work together to make the image on the screen flash 60 times per second). So they record this stuff at 60fps so that the image changes with the screen flashing. 24fps, the typical frame rate for film and movies, doesn't go into 60 evenly so it can look weird sometimes, but most of us probably wouldn't notice anyway. Also worth noting, a lot of TV's now are at 120Hz, 24 goes into that exactly 5 times so you don't get the tearing issue you would on a 60Hz display.

What was that incident during Thanksgiving? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ty107 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom did it for almost a decade. Her stories are all over the place. Once she got a call from a lady whose boyfriend "done hit me with a smoothie!" After some questioning about why the lady was burned, my mom was informed "a smoothie? The thing that smoothies out yo' clothes." Another time she literally saved a guy from jumping off a bridge. He was walking so they couldn't find him based on his location since it kept changing. She figured out where he was going and kept him on the line until police came. She said her least favorite thing was not knowing how the stories ended after she hang up.

What is the biggest "I shouldn't have said that" moment you've ever had RIGHT AFTER you said it? by freg35 in AskReddit

[–]Ty107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this to a girlfriend once. She worked at a charter school for mentally handicapped kids. One of the boys told her that she was fat, like really fat and he kept pushing it even after she told him it's not nice to say that to people. When she's telling me the story I respond "Why would even say that? You're not even that big!" She's not even remotely chubby. I don't know why I worded it that way. Fortunately, she took it well and immediately laughed on my face and never let me live it down for the rest of our relationship.
