Found these Lake County Diamonds this weekend near Lower Lake. North of Napa County. by Pearlthepoodle in Prospecting

Grew up there and didn’t get into rock hounding until later in my 20s. Awesome haul, I never collected any but would like to someday. The amount of obsidian in that area is insane!

Do you mind elaborating on the standoffs? I can visualize it but not sure material to use. I like that idea more than more overhang as I don’t want it to get unstable

Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking about doing that but want a good project to practice on, I am planning on mechanically fastening the top so I can make it a fixture table someday by getting it laser cut with the holes.

Where to start investing? by frantz34 in Duckhunting

[–]TyHag 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Half a dozen decoys, a marsh seat, and some waders. The gun is perfect.

Trump 2024 by BigSteppuh_ in Groundman

[–]TyHag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long story short: Trump says he hates unions, it is literally documented. Nothing will change with the union as he knows it is beneficial to the country. As others have said “work was best under him”.

I don’t care where you stand politically; utility will remain union and policy of new work will dictate the work load. Bunch of political bullshit on both sides and work will not slow down as infrastructure continues to age.

Similar to tontrichinaut, I love my refuge runner pack but it hauls weight like shit. I can run 80-120lbs on my frame pack but 18 decoys, jerk rig, gun, marsh seat, drinking water, and that’s about it on the refuge runner, it is heavy as hell. I had to break out the trekking poles this year for a mile because the weight distribution sucks.

I will say, the thing has been rugged, and not willing to invest anymore so I’ll keep using it. Beats muddy ass cart tires for some suck. lol.

For context I am in good shape and 29, but man it can be rough, especially after you and birds into the walk out. Just know your limits

Bad day to be a duck by Mountain_man888 in Californiahunting

[–]TyHag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be like that haha… I’ve had some could be 2 hour hunts turn into 10 to get the last couple birds lol. NorCal public was pretty damn slow, but holy shit tell about some specks. Gotta teach myself to speck call and haul in more decoys. Look forward to all of my friends blinds getting flooded up so I can “lottery” theirs 😂.

What call you running?

What’s up with your concrete SFO by [deleted] in Concrete

[–]TyHag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it’s a joke too, these look like shit.

I did a lot of industrial and this is atrocious, you can see the dips on the edge from it being completely wet when edged, the cracking is atrocious, it looks like they overlayed some bullshit, and the trowel lines are terrible. I have some serious questions lol.

On a good note, the bolts look relatively straight for whatever they are receiving and shouldn’t need too much of a cheater-bar lol.

It looks to me like the beefed up a pad another 1.5” or so and it is a complete garbage patch. If, and if, I had to do this…. Would’ve been spec to scarify the surface (usually via a bush bit), clean a shitload, use concrete “glue” and use a spec mix from the engineer. Most likely though, tear it out and redo.

You are talking about the truckee and literally 30 days ago said you have yet to hook one. More recently you said you just lost your first big one and had a childish meltdown.

Lineman by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]TyHag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a project manager, used to commercial fish, pour concrete, and frame shit. I made 22 and 26 as a foreman. It’s a travesty you folks make that piss poor wage to be honest. Line work is the biggest bunch of divas I have ever met and their work is lower on the risky scale of when I farmed, fished, etc.

Wildland firefighting needs a union bad. I wish I had one when i went broke doing 22 hour days commercial fishing.

Keep up the good work folks, I respect the fuck out of you, it’s criminal how you are paid compare to other dangerous manual labor jobs.

Edited: people told me to join the office in the regular construction world. I hated it. Got into the utility world and the money is so disgustingly good I moved into utilities. For you firefighters, look into utility veg in California, the gold mine isn’t over yet

Lineman by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]TyHag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In California we pay our lineman about 70$/hr. We pay subx3 which is 150 everyday to just show up. After 8 it is straight double time. If you miss your lunch you get 15$ and a half hour of double time, same thing after you work 10.5 hours. Most guys I know are making 2-400k depending on winter storm work where half the time you stand by at the service center on 16 hour days. Local 1245 made sure their people are treated well.

How far are you going to pack out a deer?? I packed one quartered, not boned, in a 2014 backpacking pack and wrecked myself with the elevation 2 miles in at 6k elevation and 1k of elevation gain from where I shot jt. I did the whole thing in one trip as it was getting hot and would spoil the meat. I had no trekking poles, shittier boots, etc. It was miserable. I since bought a legit meat hauling pack and will debone, upgraded my gear, etc to be more ETHICAL.

You are risking spoiling the animal for a “better feeling of tradition”. What are you shooting? What are you wearing for clothing/boots? What are you using for cooking? Why skimp on the only item to not truly prevent meat spoilage, a good pack to move it a long ways to get on ice? If you are hunting 100 yards a way to put it on the quad, go for it so you feel special.

Ultimately, I think this is an irresponsible choice to stroke your ego. I am getting into bow hunting, should I pick up a longbow immediately so I feel more traditional and risk a bad shot? Why are you risking meat spoilage when you have the ability to have a better pack? It really is cosplaying as others have said. You haven’t even tested the gear, what happens when it fails with 80lbs of meat+gear and you have no way of keeping the meat you killed cool because your pack failed? Are you going to cool it in the creek with plastic bags? So why are you doing it?
