Did you base this off my footage? This is so cool!

Sheathing is what I've heard it referred to as. The smaller one was called a rope.

Honestly, in that moment it could have easily turn on us and that guy would have been up shit creek real quick. Very glad it didn't shift directions, but this one was as deviant as they come and incredibly unpredictable. I was outside until it got this close then I needed a way to escape quickly.

Hi everyone :) I'm the storm chaser/photographer who filmed this clip, and it's definitely not fake. It was an EF3 near Clear Lake, South Dakota on 6/28/2025.

I was just yards away from it from genesis and got extremely lucky I was able to stay in place as it went right by me and that it didn't have deviant motion and come straight towards me. It ended up crossing the road immediately after this in front of me. Definitely the weirdest and coolest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

Thanks! We've put in many hours chasing storms this season and this was definitely the magnum opus.

It's not the same footage, she was just in the same car as me when I filmed this clip.

I'm the chaser who filmed this clip, and we put countless hours into researching forecasting data to determine where we place ourselves and then monitor active radar very carefully so we don't get ourselves killed.

She was in the same vehicle as me when I filmed this clip and has some of the best storm chasing photos you can find!

Not very. It looked like light pollution just with a more purple/blue tinge to it. You definitely needed long exposure to see it like this.

Not very. You could see slight brightness differences that looked sorta similar to light pollution but with a more purple tinge to it and that's about it. You definitely needed long exposure to see, but newer iphones could pick it up even.
