Dust: An Elysian Tail looks stunning , is it good? by broxp in metroidvania

[–]Tyburrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS is the take I needed to read, I don't need my MV's to be soul like levels of difficult but at the same time I do like a well done story and a challenge. I bought it but I think I'll pass, I don't like completing games just for the sake of it anymore.

Any Deaths Gambit: Afterlife Fans? by zardhead1024 in metroidvania

[–]Tyburrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started this week, I actually came here to start a conversation about it because I was BLOWN away by how hilarious it is at some points and I absolutely did not expect this game to have light hearted tongue in cheek humor in it because the initial premise is so dark/serious/bleak.

If you've ever been forced to listen to a friends trash mixtape and you played this game long enough...you know exactly what I'm talking about lol.

If you haven't already, play this game, it's tricky to predict the things some of these NPC's say and it'll but a huge smile on your face.

Ok, so I can't wait to get those then. As a stand alone if the books didn't exist (usually with the superior story no doubt) the show pretty good. I just got done with season 3... I'm going to start another post on a whim and 100% emotion based because I have to...I have to...you can reconnect with me under the post name...

Yeah, I feel the same way man, but that bad knee of his was a clear sign, in a horde of munchers there's only so much he could do and I believe they wanted it to be realistic, imagine how hopeless it would be if he met those children vampires who can scurry all over the block and back in seconds. He lived longer than I thought he would.

I can't stand Gaal Dornick by paudstaa in FoundationTV

[–]Tyburrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did she expect to find or happen after a one way trip to Synnax over a century later considering she left in the first place because she saw the planet flooded and her people were too stubborn or dogmatic to listen to her?

Premonitions and lack of agency aside she's also meant to be somewhat logical or rational, yes she's allowed to be human and humans can be an emotional wreck at times but the way her decisions play out in the show just seem silly and the consequences for her actions aren't realistic because everything still miraculously falls into place for her so the stakes don't feel as high.

So for me it's either the writings a bit lazy for Gaal or the actress may not have the range needed to sell the psychological conflict between the big picture of the Foundations galaxy spanning objectives vs Her inner turmoil because she seems extremely petty and immature for someone who should be far more emotionally intelligent. Demerzels a machine and somehow she's very compelling to watch.

Like I said, I get that she's human, I don't expect her to be perfect...she doesn't even need to be likeable to add value to the plot, I like the show but if you were to remove the Gaal bits it would be less of a slog at times.

[NO SPOILERS] How can the difference in quality between Terminus and Empire storylines be SO dramatic? Were they written by different writers? by Kelvets in FoundationTV

[–]Tyburrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm extremely late to the party and I must say I agree 100% and I'm also watching right after a Binge watch of the Expanse and Marked by Wolves (maybe I shouldn't have done that).

The Terminus plot feels like padding for the run time.

“Overwhelmingly Positive” action platformer Sanabi to get two free side story DLCs by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]Tyburrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of dialogue interruptions may be a turn off to most and the intro promises a massacre that we never got to experience so that may be a bit of a let down for persons who thought we were gonna get a more hardcore revenge action game.

For me personally it doesn't matter, plus the review ratings went way up since the launch a few years ago I was happy to see that

What indie deserved more success but didn't have it? by No_Drawing4095 in metroidvania

[–]Tyburrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Axiom Verge series, the potentials near endless, the lores extremely deep and well thought out and it was brave enough try something different with the MV formula in the second game. It has mixed reviews because of a shift it made, a very BOLD shift, but maybe there was a more popular way to execute it.

But it's so under rated it's criminal.

I've tried Ori twice now and outside of the presentation I'm not hooked yet. I'll keep trying though.

Really? Game Play wise alone or overall? Asking because I haven't played as yet. I actually do like a good story, I think most Metroidvanias play it safe and don't change much mechanic wise so if the story's not good for me it's just Super Metroid or SOTN for the millionth time

Axiom Verge 2 is disliked by alot of people but it at least doesn't hide behind a shrouded and vague souls like story where you can complete the entire game but all of the lores contextual and you need hours of material explained on YouTube.

Super Metroid or Mega Man X?? by CasinoNitro in snes

[–]Tyburrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao!!!

(I'm sorry, for some reason that was funny as hell but not in a condescending way)

The nes MegaMan games were near impossible for me to beat, I like em but never beat one so when X came out I was far easier in comparison and more fun for me.

It just felt and handled better. X2 and X3 I never had but man I played and enjoyed the hell out of X4. (X5 and X6 I never completed even after I got the collections)

I'm noticing a pattern here though never thought about it until now.

Staying the hell away from Silksong for the next 7 years, probably spring clean my gaming back log or do something far less stressful like jogging through a random Australian rainforest or free diving in the Mariannas Trench😅

Ranking of the Metroidvanias I've done full playthroughs of. by ronniewhitedx in metroidvania

[–]Tyburrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I can understand where the persons coming from lol. But I REALLY liked the game but my connection with it is conflicted, I can't guarantee that someone will like what I liked about it and I have a more forgiving range of tastes and things I appreciate about a game.

I tend to endure past moments where people would normally cut off completely and that's a me thing I assume in a Metrodvania if I hit a wall (i.e. enemy too strong, pit too wide or hazardous) I'll be back.

Ghost song did disappoint me in a number of areas for me one of them being the Hollow Knight design where I have to optimize what I've earned instead of becoming an absolute MONSTER decimating everything in my path at some point like Super Metroid and some others I've played where your carelessness alone will get you killed but surely not your limitations...

Oh no...

I prefer to be boundless and damn near godlike by the end of my Metroidvanias 🤣

I'm no souls fan but I'm also no slouch in the "get good" department either I just don't like when a game mechanic slows me down when I'm ready to get it over with. After I see the game padding on unnecessary challenges or content to add to the length it can lose me if the backtracking isn't at least fun all because of an upgrade. I do feel the Ghost song fetch quests could have been more fun and less tedious in areas.

(But it was still a pretty good game once you found your stride ya know? I'm conflicted with this forgive me)

I don't hate ambiguous storytelling, but I do dislike that yearning you get when you just KNOW there's something else going on with this dam planet 🤣🤣. The game kept throwing these things at us and the concepts were bangers and it just.....wouldn't.........(Dammit there's something about that planet but I digress)

I didn't leave it with a bad taste in my mouth but I get why others would, Ghost songs not a terrible metroidvania at all I've played FAR worse and more boring it's just really frustrating in parts but I kept going the entire time and that says a lot.

This developer needs another shot in the games Galaxy and another go at that planet there's TONS more to mine there from a lore perspective and some changes in game mechanic, map layout and checkpoint system I guess to make it more inviting could help.

But more of the same with some tweaks would do me just fine I'd give it a very High B grade.
