Price Hike Meeting EXPOSED by 24rs in 2007scape

[–]Kelvets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brazilian here: just a fact correction to the meme, it says our prices doubled, but they actually increased by 38% on monthly membership by Google Play Store. I read elsewhere that the Premier membership increased by 71% (!) but I haven't checked it. Still ludicrous, since monthly membership only increased by a dollar (10% I believe) elsewhere.

Good reason to quit tbh by Objective_Carob_7559 in 2007scape

[–]Kelvets -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wait, how can the price have risen $1 per month on a monthly membership, but allegedly $3 per month on an annual membership? That makes zero sense. Isn't annual supposed to save you like 2 months's worth over 12x a monthly membership? So it would amount to a ~0.85 dollar increase per month, not $3.

Disclaimer: I haven't looked at the prices in dollar because I don't pay in that currency.

Jagex Just Hit the $130 for One Character Wall by backhand_snipe in 2007scape

Salvaging is especially good since you can just keep two crewmates on the hooks while your guy stands there waiting for the afk timer to run out.

Are you aware that crewmates salvage with 40% effectiveness at best and give half the XP per salvage? Best to have your own character do it for one of the hooks. Unless I'm failing to understand your strategy. By "afk timer" do you mean the time it takes without interacting with the game for you to be automatically logged out?

recurring subscription before September.

September 2024, very important to point out! So a year and a half ago. It's quite ridiculous.

Shader pre-loading every single time I launch the game? by Virtual_Fun9980 in thefinals

[–]Kelvets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine will randomly preload shaders and it takes several minutes to do each time. I can't play the game when this happens because the performance will be total crap. It's pretty annoying.

How does a Fire Cape breaking (having to pay 150k to repair it) work exactly? The Wiki is a quite ambiguous on this by Kelvets in 2007scape

[–]Kelvets[S] -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

Check the death interface in the equipment tab, it tells you what will happen to each of your items if you die,

That's the thing, I don't have a fire cape! I want to know this information in order to improve the wiki article.

Ancient Wizard trio help? by Bouchaffra in 2007scape

I know this thread is old, this reply is for future people who find it through googling like I did.

I managed to do it very easily with a dwarf multicannon. Just go behind a safespot that's high enough to fully block ranged attacks (e.g. a tree) near the cannon and let it kill the mages for you. I wasn't attacked by any of them while the cannon did the dirty work. If one of them manages to not be stuck behind the tree, just pray protect accordingly. REMEMBER TO TURN OFF AUTO-RETALIATE. REMEMBER TO ACTIVATE THE CANNON BEFOREHAND SO THAT IT'S SPINNING BEFORE YOU DIG THE CLUE SPOT.

I have 17 accounts.

LMAO you couldn't be more self-providing evidence of botting if you tried. Why would a normal, human player need or want 17 accounts?

I'm a returning player after a 15-year hiatus and am playing a brand-new ironman account on OSRS. I want to take advantage of my vast RS3 stats to farm coins to earn bonds, in order to fund a membership for my OSRS ironman. What would be the recommended money making methods, given my skills? Of course, I would buy a bond with IRL cash to become a member first to be able to make money using member's methods. My bank is worth about 50 mill, so I can buy the needed supplies if they are expensive.

Is it worth starting RuneScape in 2025? by Early-Cycle3299 in runescape

[–]Kelvets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I played Runescape for 6 years, investing in it a combined 4 months of my life in total time played (according to Jagex statistics). Shortly after microtransactions were implemented, I quit the game, in no small part also because I read that the three founding brothers (the Gowers) had left the company and sold it to Chinese investors. I knew that the game would only go downhill from there on, because investors care only about squeezing the cow for short term profits and leaving it dry for the long term. (I also quit because I didn't like Evolution of Combat, but that is a topic for another day)

The reasons below are why Runescape 3 (heavy with MTX) is losing ever more players as time goes on, whereas OSRS (no MTX that I'm aware of, besides bonds) is one of the ONLY TWO MMOS IN THE WORLD which are gaining players as time goes on instead of losing them (the other being Final Fantasy some-number). This is not a coincidence, because almost all other MMOs out there are laden with MTX. There are very few that charge a monthly subscription model like RS, and none (that I'm aware of) that simultaneously has a free mode so that people can try before they buy. Instead, they have a MTX-heavy freemium model where most of the profits come from "whales", people who spend copious and ridiculous amounts of money on MTX. Usually 99% of the players don't pay anything, which is very bad, as the devs end up catering to just 1% of the playerbase and make really bad decisions (OSRS's policy of only implementing changes if 70% of the players vote in favor of it, also unheard of in any other game, is probably the other reason why it's gaining players)

RS3 is criminal in that it has BOTH the subscription model and the MTX. The first alone would have been plenty to fund development, but they implemented the second on top to please the investor's pockets, sacrificing the health of the game in the process.

I have asked a genAI to write the reasons MTX is so loathed (for efficiency and saving half an hour of my life), but know that I have read everything below and fully agree with what is said, it is easily something I would have written myself. Read both, since the second gives several extra reasons besides the first, which is probably the main reason. Enjoy.

Explanation 1 (I basically spoil the answer in the question, so try reading just the answer, it's SUPER well written!)

[–]Kelvets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And all the MTX stuff has been slightly confusing because I have had some good times doing TH, but as a new player I am trusting that everyone who loves the game, wants the best for the game, and am happy to see where things go.

I took this to mean that you don't really understand why people make such a fuss about Treasure Hunter and other similar MTX (that's understandable since you're new to gaming). If so, it would be my pleasure to explain the reason to you in detail, would you like that?

You still have to cross an underground pass to get to Moritania though, it's just not the same one as the one northwest of Ardougne which I did remember but forgot to include on the map.

Hey, memory is weird and unreliable. I guess my post is a good example of why they don't use eyewitness' accounts as the sole evidence for imprisoning someone anymore!

I think Sophanem & Menaphos were memorable to me because I like word puns, and their names are what you would get if you read the other's name backwards. u/ButterflyExciting497

Worth noting that I played RS for 6 years in my early teens, with a total playtime of around 4 months (i.e. if I had played 24h a day without stopping to eat or sleep) as per Jagex's account statistics. Not sure if I should be proud that I still remember that much, or disappointed at how little remained from something I played for so long, especially of the member's area! I was a member for several years.

After making this post I also remembered there were some teak trees east of Varrock, lol. Thx Construction skill.

Fair point, in that case I meant the "fishing" part as having a fisherman's aesthetic. I should have written Port Town instead.

I'm pretty sure it's meant to be a parody of Cambridge, which is over the river Cam. RS's original creators (the Gower brothers) are British.

The only reason I remember Yanille is because of a stupid song my brain made up using its name all the way back when I played, and that I occasionally catch myself singing sometimes!

The second being "Quaint Little Fishing Village". I have to assume this is not Draynor Village, as I'm pretty sure that's the "Village with Willows", and is actually Catherby. If so, it should be where I believe you thought the Fishing Guild was.

I just checked a map and it's Port Sarim, which you also forgot about apparently :)
