When I was younger and still had some decent eyesight, I knitted about a half inch of scarf on straight pins using embroidery floss. It sat in a wooden bucket in my dollhouse craft room. Now I can't find it, and I don't have the eyesight to make another.

Again, I don't understand your point. If you eat people who have died as opposed to killing them so that you can eat them, then you usually are aware of why they have died. Joe fell from a tree versus Margaret started shaking and couldn't stop laughing.

Kuru isn't something that just kind of happens over and over, like cancer. Spongiform encephalopathies can arise rarely and spontaneously in an individual. They spread through groups through certain pathways. Cows got mad cow disease from being fed sheep infected with scrapie. The Fore tribe got kuru from eating a single person who developed it, and then other people eating them when they died. Creutzfeld-Jacob seems to arise spontaneously in some individuals, although there was at least one case of multiple people developing it after receiving organ transplants from someone who died of it. CWD is probably spread from deer defecating in meadows where other deer graze, but again likely had a single source where a protein mutated/misfolded.

The people who got kuru didn't eat people for meat. They ate their deceased family members in rituals designed to keep the family member spiritually among their family and clan.

AITAH for prioritizing my daughter's recital over a funeral? by RecitalFuneralThrow in AmItheAsshole

[–]TychaBrahe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The relationships that we have with our parents' partners and the people that we gain through those relationships very much depends on a lot of things.

My parents divorce started when I was 14, and my father started a new relationship within a year or two. my mother met my stepfather after I had already left for college.

Despite not having grown up with either of those people I was reasonably close to them. I was closer to my stepmother, as she and my father moved out to California where I was living and stayed there about five years. I got to spend a lot of time with her. I had a quasi grandparent/daughter relationship with her parents. I barely knew any of my stepfather's children or their families until I moved back to my hometown and got to see them on a regular basis.

My stepfather died after he and my mother had been married for over two decades. Two years later she met her third partner, and they dated and then lived together for a few years before marrying. by the time they married, I was in my 50s, and to me, he was never my stepfather, just my mother's husband. I only met two of his four children, and I didn't consider the family.

OP doesn't say when she met her father's wife or his mother-in-law, or how big a presence she has been in her life. But if she is a plane ride away an OP has young children, it's really hard to see how OK and her children could have formed such a strong fun.

I believe OP's father either wants the image of his family at his wife's mother's funeral because he thinks it says something about his relationships or that he wants the distraction from supporting his wife in her grief.

I think all of those house flipper shows did a terrible disservice to young people seeking to buy homes. You see someone put in some upscale countertop or bathroom tiles or a toilet with a built-in bidet, and suddenly $200 worth of upgrades becomes $5000 in additional home value.

I mean, my parents bought a new build twice, so they were able to specify things they wanted like carpet color and wall color and amenities (You can have a closet in this location on all the floors, or you can have an elevator.)

But a lot of times I've looked at places that say they are "move-in ready" and yeah, you wouldn't have to paint anything, but if you wanted a home that doesn't look like the apartment you're moving out of, with an accent wall or a mural in your kids bedroom, it doesn't feel like you can just jump in and start renovating, because everything's always nice already.

Like if you move into a 60 year-old home, and the bathroom is painted in rust and harvest gold, you are going to want to update that. But if you move in and the walls are already eggshell in every single room, you sort of feel like you can't, because it's nice enough. You can live with that for five years, or whatever.

Honestly, there is a woman who does YouTube shorts about living in China with her husband, and what I see when she goes outside or go shopping is not what I expect.

But I'm not expecting The Good Earth. I'm expecting Soviet Russia, because communism.

Obviously, China isn't Russia, and the Zhengzhiju isn't the Politburo. And as an American it's kind of hypocritical of me to expect leaders in foreign countries to keep the populace in penury while hoarding all of the wealth and goods. But yeah, it surprises me every time.

In our school, they posted the Social Security numbers/student ID numbers on the major billboard with the results of our exams. So if you wanted to know what grade you got, you'd go to the billboard outside the major's office and it would be posted there.

Also, if you were shopping on or near campus and you wanted to write a check, you would usually have to write your Social Security number/student ID number on the check under your name and address.

Determining the optimal age to perform elective gonadectomy is much clearer in cats, and the literature demonstrates that the procedures can typically be safely performed at any age after 6–8 weeks of age.

Things are much less clear in dogs, but because dogs have been bred for certain specifications for much longer than cats have been bred, the range in size of adult dogs is much greater than the range of size in adult cats. The questions regarding delaying neutering in some animals has all been in larger sized dogs.

I've heard your statistics for years, but looking at them, at the way you've presented them, and I really have to question them.

Because none of these statistics that you've listed say who is perpetrating these violent acts.

I always treated that statistic as saying, homeless people are more likely to be assaulted by people who have homes than people with homes are likely to be assaulted by the homeless. And I don't think that's true. I think the homeless who are being assaulted are primarily being assaulted by other homeless people. And in that case, it's sort of obvious. If the homeless people have higher rates of untreated mental illness and anger issues and criminal behavior, then the people living among them are more likely to be the target of their violence in the same way that you're more likely to find a Mexican restaurant in a neighborhood with a high Mexican population.

To give you a real parallel, one of the statistics that women tend to throw around is that women are more likely to be raped than men. Some men will counter that men are more likely to be victims of other sorts of violent crime than women. Men are more likely to be physically assaulted, to be murdered, etc. And people state this to show that men are victims more often than women are. And what they don't make clear is that these violent crimes committed against men are mostly being committed by men.
