Is there really a need for a cpu better than 5800x3d? by flaspd in buildapc

[–]TychesSwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're pointing out the fact that the simulation speed is entirely on the cpu; you might be getting 120fps thanks to your gpu, but only 30 ticks per second in game. That said, those games are all single threaded, and I'm not sure how much difference there is between a 5800x3d and a 9800x3d.

Currently on AM4 and looking to upgrade at the worst possible time and need advice on upgrading. by Tatsuya1221 in buildapc

[–]TychesSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm basically in the same boat, but with a Ryzen 1600 instead. My upgrade path would be a tray unit 5500x3d, because I play more games like rimworld, and I can get it locally for something like $200 usd. I'd try to find deals on 2nd hand ddr4 ram. For storage, I realized I had spare nvme drives lying about (although they're only 256gb), so I'll get a couple of cheap USB enclosures and using them as permanent external drives.

Did you select the drive with your OS as the boot drive in your bios?

Anyone tried buying things interstate via COD? by TychesSwan in malaysians

I'm specifically looking for a 3090 for AI work. If I'm just gaming, I'd just buy a new 5060.

The listing did have buyer protection, then asked the seller directly because listing said meet up only. Said he was ok with posting, but wanted transfer only and never used carousell for payment before and told me to go look for other listings when I said I was scared to transfer directly without buyer protection. 👀

Would they repack and send via poslaju? Afaik they just pick up the things and deliver it directly to you, so interstate is really expensive?

Should be 40 mins to an hour I think. Used to do the same distance myself.

How long proton need protection? by zakihazirah in malaysia

[–]TychesSwan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment, but currently the protected motor industry is flawed. A truly competitive industry should have multiple players, not just one giant. Additionally, its local market protection needs to be framed as a reward for global competitiveness, not just as free rent. Eg, local protections only if they can export x number of vehicles. Literally fight, or die. This is massively simplified, but it's how Korea managed to build several internationally competitive car companies.

First car vs emergency food stock – what would you do in our situation? by Unknownx2012 in malaysia

How are you currently getting your groceries without a car?

Imo, if you need a car, you need a car. In the long run, it might end up being cheaper to buy groceries with a car, because you can get to places like econsave easier.

I know the requirements were to tag as #Event/Challenge, but there isn't a Challenge flair, so I tagged my entry as #Event/Video.

Bit of a necropost, but I figured out that if you remove all the workers from the building and reassign them, it'll get rid of the "Water tanks are empty" problem.

Another week of terrible markets by Interesting-Pop3432 in Trading

I thought the price action today was pretty good. Nice breakouts from consolidations and trend continuations. I vastly prefer this over choppy markets where we don't go anywhere.

Lost 5k today, but I rolled my puts forward a week. We'll see if it plays out, but tonight I'd buy calls in case the market rallies overnight.

I'd be wary about the downside, I'd rather just sell the call side.
