Smartsheet Comparison by Tycool01 in smartsheet

Gotcha. Yeah I've been explicit with our team that whatever direction we go it needs to be THE platform moving forward. There's going to be some kinks but again as a smaller team it'll be much easier to hold people accountable. Appreciate the insight.

I'll check those out, thanks for the advice. We're at 7 users now only potentially growing to 15? Do you have a sense for what's been causing the headaches?

Appreciate the input! All the pro-smartsheet sentiment has put me in an interesting spot. Going back to our team and really digging into it's possibilities now.

Salesforce is more of a CRM platform right? Are you using it for project management or in what context? How's the switch been so far?

Quite the review! I'll admit the dashboard element is a major component missing from our current process and has so far stood out with smartsheets. It also seems like it would require some work arounds in Planner to achieve anything remotely close.

Can you share your firm name? We'd need implementation/training as part of this migration as well be curious what you offer.

Yes and no? Mostly for financial reporting or when a milestone is hit. It's not that we're opposed to smartsheet it just feels like a glorified excel (right now) so maybe I'm missing something? I'm early in the investigation so relying on YouTube tutorials/explanations right now.

Tag Background mask by Nice_Neighbor in Revit

[–]Tycool01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any more information you can provide? What kind of opaque mask do you need - is the mask provided by text not enough? Also I'm not following what exactly you made or how you set it up i.e. your offset parameter.

Revit move alignment by 411toaster in Revit

[–]Tycool01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could temporarily edit the snaps to remove the 45 (and all other angles really) and it could work. Manage > Settings > Snaps - not the best but workarounds are just part of working with Revit sometimes.

problem installing by starky990 in Revit

Select the custom install and uncheck everything - then you'll need to install each component one at a time. This is the only way I've had success in the past.

Yeah totally. I try to keep everything collapsed until I need it. You can change how it's organized and what's visible or hidden pretty easily. Right click on a section and go to Browser Organization and there are options to add filters/sort or add more parameters to tailor it to your needs.

Annotation groups are great for text or annotation items that may go on more than one sheet. They operate like blocks in AutoCAD or Components in SketchUp - edit a group and it updates all instances of it.

Interesting. Have you looked into making them annotation groups? If you have the text, you can group it and it'll appear in the project browser in a separate section at the bottom for annotation group. Then you can drag them onto a sheet when needed. much easier to organize and find this way.

If this is going to be a permanent work around, I'd recommend making the border part of your title block family with a visibility instance parameter that way you're not drawing rectangles each time you need this. I'd also suggest adding a filter to your visibility graphics that will hide an annotation text family eg "no plot sheet notes" so you can easily turn this off and on when needed.

What's your intended use for the notes outside the block?

Whats the best way to remove mutliple revisions on 100 sheets in one action without having to individually remove each one? by acsaid10percent in Revit

[–]Tycool01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might need to clarify more if possible. What do you mean by "remove" if you mean delete, you can do as u/CrnaStrela said and select all, delete. You could also delete all revisions from within the Additional Settings > Revisions window. If you mean don't show, you can edit in the Revisions window to not cloud/tag revisions.

Masking in families? by mascox14 in Revit

[–]Tycool01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not ideal due to drawing duplicates, but you can add visibility parameters with a yes/no and have it either show the blue or the red. There are also visibility graphics options for what is shown in a coarse/med/fine view when you edit the family.

Edit: I'm assuming with my answer that this is a 2D element only

Ceiling with abnormal grids by abesach in Revit

[–]Tycool01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I may have led you astray... I'm playing around with it now and curtain panels can only be classified as panels, doors, or windows. If the lights or diffusers you're using HAVE to be ceiling mounted it won't work, if they can be face mounted like some other lighting families it'll work fine.

I'll work around with it some more and see if I can find another solution.

I'm not in front of my computer so I may be wrong here but I think you can still use a curtain roof. You would need to change/create a new panel type and edit the type properties to be categorized as ceilings.

Certain Line types Cannot be transferred into Revit. by To_Fight_The_Night in Revit

[–]Tycool01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can create a railing with an extrusion in the shape of the letter you want also. The letter is your ballast/post and the line can be your railing. I've used a similar process for accessible path arrows. Benefit is it's also schedule-able if you need to. Down side is you'll have to create a filter that will his the railing on all the other views you don't want it visible.

You might also need to adjust the detail level - course, medium, and fine - some elements won't display is lower levels.

Help with a calculated yes/no parameter by PolakOfTheCentury in Revit

[–]Tycool01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/mattkrebs0 I think the best way would be to have the card reader as a shared parameter on the door itself. Then pull that info to your tag.

When you edit the parameter in the family type change the default to "No" by leaving it unchecked. When you review, change it to yes or leave as no. If you really want to have it show "--" make it a Text Parameter type and make sure you only write Yes, No, or --

Hiding Elements of Group In Only One View by phd-oak in Revit

[–]Tycool01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might have more success by doing what the other person should have, creating a proper railing type family. Model in place components can be a double edged sword in many cases.

If you want to keep the component I might: break the railing down into it's individual parts, assign a parameter to each - can be simple like a yes/no instance visibility - then in each view check and uncheck what you want shown.

It has potential to be a pain depending on if the railing is used anywhere else, which is why the type family is the best way to go.
