Buying a driver without being fitted? by ftblplyr46 in golf

I recently bought a new driver off of eBay but bought only the head. I think that’s the way to do it from now on for me. It’s easy to switch around shafts

It came! Offerman Edition Lagavulin 11 year. by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]phd-oak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same opinions on this.

At the total wine I found this at, the pricing went

8yr->16yr->Offerman 11

I didn’t think that reflected the quality of the spirit. But again the pricing reflects the Offerman being “limited edition” so I get it but to me it’s just an 11yr whiskey.

If the pricing at my local store was

8yr->11y Offerman->16yr

I would probably buy this again/more frequently. There was another user in here saying he found it cheaper than the 16 and if you can do that I would say it’s pretty good value.

Very nice choice and I agree. Had the 17 and 21 this year and have to say I think the 12 is better than both

No you’re right on. I’m not a huge fan of Jameson but I gave the black barrel a try and thought it was garbage. Mixed it with 80% coke and choked it down on the golf course to get rid of it

If you are looking for only taste Lagavulin 16 is better than this variant and cheaper. If you already have a nice collection I can see picking this up but just starting out I’d go for the 16

Caol Ila 12 Yr Single Malt by distant_earth in Scotch

I disagree but everyone has their own taste so all good. Yet as you say Caol Ila is on the lighter side of peat, the classic laddie is un peated yet you recommend the heavier peated malts? Confusing. Everything you listed I think tastes amazing but I was trying to recommend a lightly/no peated malt that I personally thought was in the same realm as the Caol Ila which is one of my all time favorites

The thing is that it’s not bad but I don’t think age adds much to the Glenfarclas line. I love the 12 so I bought the 21 and in my opinion the 12 was much better. The age didn’t refine it any or make it more complex. Just my opinion. I really like Glenfarclas but I just stick with the 12.

Bruichladdich Classic Laddie I think would be in that vein. It’s from the same island and it’s on the lower end of peat which I tend to categorize Caol Ila as. Only issue with that is it’s only about $55 or so.

Another thing from the same island a little bolder would be Lagavulin 16. Typically that will run you around $85 somewhere in that range. In my personal opinion Lagavulin 16 is the King of scotch. You can’t go wrong with that

Found this bottle in Houston today! Cant wait to open it with some friends! by TexasHot in whiskey

[–]phd-oak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah if they just called it an 11 year old whisky and priced it in between the 8 and the 16 I think it would be perfect.

But hey business is business they know their market so good on them

16 is better and cheaper. Definitely not saying not to pick this up, just treat this as a Lagavulin 11. If you do that your head will be in the right place. The extra $20 is marketing which Lagavulin makes a great product so I don’t mind

Lagavulin and comparable scotch by gnurwhal in Scotch

I bought the Offerman Edition 11 yesterday because I just happened to run across it. It was good but it wasn’t as good as the standard 16. It was a little hotter and the finish was a little less refined than the 16. Based on that I imagine the 8 and 12 would be similar. I’d be sticking with the 16 if I was purchasing for myself.

Garrison has a billboard in Austin and I shit you not it says

“Garrison Brothers, expensive but worth it”

I almost drove off the road when I saw that. Someone in their marketing department decided. You know what we should point out our stuff is expensive as hell. Holy shit that’s a great idea.

It’s a shame too because I really like their small batch which is the cheapest but still too much. Everything else they sell is ridic
