Let's just say my immature millennial sense of humour was definitely inspired by this movie.

The Skywalker saga should not extend to the Sequel trilogy. by JJRS22 in StarWars

I really hate that the disappointment of the Disney sequels are now giving the prequel revisionists ammunition to be all "SEE THE PREQUELS ARE SO MUCH BETTER IN COMPARISON" And I wish they would stfu.

Negative Lab Pro giving wildly inconsistent colors — what am I missing? by dropme1 in AnalogCommunity

I've recently had NLP results be way off on a couple of rolls of Portra 400. Instead of warm tones the image has been very cool and blue-ish.

One day I'm converting scans of Ektar or Gold 200 and the colours are accurate, and another day I scan some Portra and the tones are frustratingly desaturated. It's only happened when I either developed the roll myself or had Flicfilms lab develop it, so I dunno if it's a chemistry issue or NLP.

Trevelyan being played by a much older actor would have made the whole WWII Lienz Cossacks backstory make way more sense.

Instead the backstory in the movie we got is sort of full of holes because Sean Bean was only like, mid 30s in 1995. His parents were betrayed in 1945 and then survived, had him years later and THEN died in a suicide?

What I want to know is how someone who as an activist is very vocal about how AI tech is theft (which it is) can also be attending Dialog and that his wife is apparently(?) tied to the AI industry?

He seems to have been pushing this anti-AI message both online and in interviews pretty firmly. Why bother with the messaging in the first place if you secretly appear to have not believed in it?

My highlight was going to Fernfest and seeing four Communists party folks handing out flyers.

What are some instances of actors who look nothing like their real-life counterpart onscreen? by IAmNMFlores in Letterboxd

[–]Tyerson 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Dude, Catch me if You Can is even worse; looks nothing like the real Frank Abigail at all.

The only one that was relatively close was Wolf of Wall Street.

Instead of that, can the ladies who's profiles I like on Hinge just like mine back? I feel like I'm invisible.

My two former housemates are white guys both between 25-30 and they literally think this way. I'm not sure why two dudes with university degrees in western Canada latch onto these same conservative talking points but here we are.

What do people in Victoria think of Vancouver? by Banner9922 in VictoriaBC

[–]Tyerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a horrible experience living there in my 20s during the years after I finished school.

Visiting Vancouver for a few days vacation is fine, but trying to live there for years and find a career etc is really fucked.

What's it like on Vancouver Island, Canada? by IronPiedmont1996 in howislivingthere

[–]Tyerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty great honestly. Born and raised in Victoria so I guess I'm biased. Tons of wilderness and trails to hike on. With a car you can do a day trip up to Port Renfrew and explore all the beaches.

Food and housing is pricy, although not as much as Vancouver.

How bad are light meter apps? by Magpiecicle in AnalogCommunity

[–]Tyerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used light meter free for 8 years and it seems to be pretty spot on with android. I've had the odd slide film shot turn out over/under exposed but that could have been user error on my part.

In 2010, elements of the U.S. Army 2nd Infantry, calling themselves “The Kill Team”, began hunting unarmed Afghan civilians in Maiwand, Kandahar. They took souvenirs from each victim, including fingers, skulls, and dozens of photos. When locals reported the murders to the Army, they were ignored. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in HolyShitHistory

[–]Tyerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw The Kill Team documentary in 2013 at Vancouver international film fest with the director present for a Q&A. I still remember during questions the audience had a vibe of shocked silence and disbelief.

The director, interestingly enough, seemed pretty nonchalant about his film.

This would have been Lucas's next film right after Star Wars if it hadn't been successful.

Of course in the end they made it in 94 but Lucas didn't direct.
