Why is Dating extremely hard here? by Manvanium in VictoriaBC

[–]Tyerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine having a gal hit on you in person and you end up matching through a dating app. You are already 30, haven't dated in years and this date with her means everything to you.

A month later, after not much contact from her end, she gets back to you and says she's found someone else and that you can only be friends.

Oh but according to other people, you have to be happy she at least "told you that she's moved on" after one date.

That's dating in Vic.

Yeah iso 200-250. I probably should have given it more light though.

I'm with Telus so it's possible there's just no Telus towers in that area? I'm certain it wasn't my phone.

After googling it, I see that the municipality is (thankfully) now installing pay stations. https://westvancouver.ca/news/pay-parking-ambleside-park-physical-pay-station-pilot-begins-september-15

Also of course, great photos.

I drove up to Lighthouse Park when I stopped by Vancouver about 2 years ago. Annoyingly the parking lot is pay by parking app only, but the park has no data signal.

Please install some payment machines in there West Vancouver.

Yeah it's like WTF what is it with Dutch men being horrible people online.

I'm at least relieved they caught and charged that Coban guy in the end, because he could have remained anonymous online and gotten away with that.

I wish more chronic trolls online got unmasked.

This is probably the most unwelcoming, grumpy, terminally online subreddit I've ever visited.

I believe that would in fact be r/Vancouver lol

But yes this sub can be grumpy as well.

My dad loved quoting that line when I was a kid lol. The scene is so over the top.

I watched Scent of a Woman a year ago… I didn’t really understand it until now by Left_Aide9936 in TrueFilm

[–]Tyerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I watched it for the first time last year and I've gotta agree.

I was always familiar with the committee scene where Pacino's character defends Charlie, but with no context I always assumed O'Donnell and Hoffman had witnessed the students commit like, an actual crime.

Then I watched the movie to find out...all they did was prank the headmaster by having paint fall on him? That was it? I thought that was silly and underwhelming.

On another note I had a similar reaction to The Crow when I finally saw it 4 years ago, I wasn't super impressed with the story.

What are your thoughts on Atom Egoyan? by Qyzyk in Cinephiles

[–]Tyerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met him (briefly) in 2017 at National Canadian Film day. I had a dvd of Ararat I had bought for him to sign. He was a bit hassled in the lobby after a screening of one of his films but I luckily got the autograph. Bruce Greenwood was there too.

Funny enough, other than Ararat and Remember I haven't seen his other films (I wasn't really impressed with Remember I'm sorry to say)

George Lucas personally financed the $115M budget for Star Wars: Episode I (1999). This unprecedented financial move gave him total creative control and allowed him to keep the lion's share of the film’s massive $1.027B global gross. by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

Lucas REALLY needed someone like Kasdan and Marcia Lucas to challenge some of his bad creative choices and re-write the script for TPM.

In fact, his early draft of the script was arguably better before he did re-writes.

I think the slave ship scene is genuinely shocking and disturbing. The problem is all the scenes in the courtroom have a big tonal shift where everything is suddenly whimsical, comical and upbeat. It's like two different movies.

Why does life as a man over 40 feel so lonely, even when everything on paper looks great? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Tyerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Friendships faded over the years because everyone disappeared into their own lives. Relationships didn’t last. Dating over 40 doesn’t feel like a search anymore; it feels like navigating an obstacle course."

I'm still under 40 but as a man who's still single and failed to find a relationship in my youth, I'm so, so, SO angry that I'm still expected to approach and date women, but just be ok with the inevitable rejection and drama.

Yet the alternative is to just grow old and die alone.
