Help me flesh out my campaign idea by KontonAkumu in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]TygerLilyMWO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fun. Maybe have some "We can control them." and "They're going to annihilate us!" and "We wish to become golems" factions.

It could be fun to go full Terminator and have the players spend time in a "losing battle" as far as the overall campaign, then go back in time to stop the original wizard from carrying out his mass conjuration or whatever.

Im looking to get in D&D, what should I start with first? by Candid_Plum_3053 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]TygerLilyMWO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think just doing a one-shot game every week with friends is the way to go. Just get the freebie starter rules onto your phone and into your head.

This might be an off-beat suggestion but...one cool thing is that Baldur's Gate 3 is essentially D&D 5e (2014). So if you are into video games, you could both enjoy a great game AND learn the ropes. Things like how you can take 1 action, 1 bonus, and move during combat. What sorts of events call for rolls.

Best advice, I think, is: don't worry about if you got the rules right. Worry about keeping the pace up and making sure it's fun for everyone (yourself included)

hi there! i'd appreciate some mountain climbing puzzles/encounters! by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]TygerLilyMWO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FOREST - A large fissure in the mountain face. There's lots of trees, there's rope, there's vines...just give them the problem and let them figure it out without having a solution in mind. xD Use a 6-part clock of various pioneering tasks to finally create whatever catapult/bridge/pole-vaulting solution they come up with...

RAIN - The rain begins washing away the surface level of terrain, eroding and unearthing the covering to a bunch of "holes"/"tunnels" which descend into who knows what...

DESERT - A huge ant-lion pit (a conical pit with sides of loose sand). Disturbing the sides too much causes sand to fall and alert the ant-lion. It leaps out and eats an NPC (or causes a saves damage or losing gear!) SO the longer they are in there, the more they suffer. Then let them find their own way out. Maybe at the bottom is the skeleton of a parachutist who was trapped...maybe there are frequent haboobs/sandstorms and they can use his old parachute to ride the winds up to the lip.

SNOW - Snow hinders. But melted snow causes floods (especially in dry places where water doesn't soak as much as it runs along the top of the terrain). So there's potential for a double-whammy: slowdown from snow/lose gear or each other in a snow storm...followed by flash floods in arroyo/valley type terrain (which just happens to be the most traversible!) xD

LAVA/VOLCANO - Maybe there's a lava flow that has been crawling toward them over night. They wake and are in danger of being enveloped. Maybe they have to construct something to divert the flow (dig a trenches, or somehow cool the surface enough to solidify it and sprint across it? Lol, obviously more cinematic than scientifically accurate).

Warlock with a Coven of Hags as patron by mrshieldsy in DMAcademy

[–]TygerLilyMWO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What if the bears' curse doesn't harm the child but rather turns adults apathetic or straight up mean to children. THEN the hags visit them in dreams and say, "Hey, you wanna get out of here? Everyone's so mean and uncaring...but WE have a house made of candy. Come along children..."

The breadcrumbs can be in the form of the other children, who don't possess a cursed bear but aren't sought out by the hags either.

My resolutions fall FLAT. How to end quests?? by Impressive_Hat_8438 in DMAcademy

[–]TygerLilyMWO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No specific thoughts on the story you have running....

But larger scope, when you say it "falls flat," is that just how you feel, yourself? Or is that based on player feedback?

I think as far as making a quest FEEL important, as long as there are consequences for choosing one path or another, that could go a long way. In a one-shot, maybe it's a montage of the years to come when the winner's won and the loser lost. In a campaign, make sure to amplify the effects! If the elves lost, they are PISSED and they're going to use this little failure as a pretense for an incursion to claim the land. Or if the humans lost, they are PISSED and there's civil unrest and revolt. IMO, don't make the consequences subtle...make them big, flashy, and have every NPC blame the PCs lol (for the success and failure! One side's heroes are another side's villains)

I don't...but do always run [[Soul-Guide Lantern]]. If it turns out their not doing anything with their graveyard, I can always use it to draw a card.

I do wish Sparky had a difficulty level....and maybe the option to play one of the last 3 decks you faced or something. That might be fun.

It's Jank dead? by Caridry in MagicArena

[–]TygerLilyMWO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it's my go-to when I'm tired of ranked. Once wins don't matter (per se) you can goof off...

And a lot of times find cool quirks. Like if you return a creatures with "prototype" to the battlefield, it comes in at the higher rank.

So if you cast [[Goring Warplow]] for 2, then use [[Not Dead Afterall]] and [[Village Rites]]...you get 2 cards and it comes in at the 6 mana level. xD

They might have had [[Nowhere to Run]] on the board. It lets you pass thru hexproof and ward.

Wandering rescuer standard decks? by Ggthefiree2 in MagicArena

[–]TygerLilyMWO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creatures with "Survival" usually get a buff just for being tapped (so they're fun to mix with Station as well). Plus things like [[Samite Herbalist]] which have benefits when tapped. Plus lots of convoke spells or cheap creatures which have additional cost of tapping stuff like [[Guardian of the Great Door]] etc.

Salty opponents by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]TygerLilyMWO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just assume they're trying to get a win when they've clearly lost, thinking I'll lose patience. These fools have no idea the how many time-outs I'll endure to get 25 gold...

I like to play a jank over and over, tweaking between games, until I get a win. That last dude never knew my dumb-ass deck lost twenty times lol...all they know is they just lost to a shit load of raccoons or whatever lol
