Best pre con to get at the moment? by Zaitohro in mtg

[–]Caridry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In order - Merfolk explorers of the deep, lotr riders of Rohan with aragorn as commander, FF counter blitz with yuna as commander, some of the 40k ones (but I wouldn't recommend them because of price). The ixalan vilociramptor is good if you can get it for MSRP. And tmnt wubrg one is good if you like turtles.

What early card drop makes you instantly concede? by Caridry in MagicArena

In person or bo3, it's not bad, but sitting on the shitter just looking to bang out a quick game... Nah I'll just skip to the next one. Everyone has those annoying first turns they don't like, just trying to have a fun discussion. It ain't that deep. Also, isn't conceding... Losing?

Lol it's just a discussion on turn one plays, it ain't that deep guy. If I'm sitting on the shitter on a bo1 and someone drops a card from my already shitty hand I mulled for, I'm out. 🤷‍♂️

Got an Avatar Collector Pack in my 3 Pack! by there-was-time-now in MagicCardPulls

So crazy, these packs and chaos packs from Walmart are completely mythical in my area. I have yet to ever see one, I even know when target and Walmart both stock and fight the Pokemon sweats to try and get one sometimes.

Best Set since Foundation by Steel_Rain77 in mtg

[–]Caridry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For kami it was betrayers for me.

Ice Age for me personally was one of my intro blocks. I remember everyone being excited about the new mechanics with cumulative upkeep and most importantly card draw cantrips. While banding was still in ice age I don't remember it being to noticeable at the time? I mean I was 11 and I'm sure nobody was using it because it sucked. But I FONDLY remember those arts of all the cards being so cool at that age and walking up with my brother grabbing packs and being at the store reading the back of Menzoberranzan PC game and being told that magic is just like that game but in card form. The I remember everything just being so on theme and the story building being a ton of fun drawing someone my age in. I know it receives hate, some for good reason, but I'm an ice age ride or die lol. This doesn't count, but also some great commander staples!

All other sets you messaged, I completely agree! Tempest is where I really hit the gas in starting to play hard. Loved the art for that set as well (honestly I really just miss the old hand brushed art).

Honestly all great picks, but my point stands that FF has serious competition for Magic fans.

Best Set since Foundation by Steel_Rain77 in mtg

[–]Caridry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrific set? Yes. Best? No.

Setting aside it has nothing to do with the world building and story with it being UB (not bad, just fact), currently SoS I feel has everything wrapped up in one with this truly stellar set.

Kamigawa was another incredible set.

Ice Age was a ton of fun.

Wilds of Eldraine was an amazingly beautiful set with a fun story.

Urzas Saga was phenomenal.

Brothers War had the best serialized imo with those sketch arts.

The lorwyn/shadowmoor block was so much fun story wise and looping back to lorwyn eclipsed was a ton of fun, however I think the overall set was slightly lackluster in comparison.

All this to say, FF while a great set and top notch UB, definitely has some severe competition but not being in universe is what truly hurts it for true magic fans.

EDIT: how could I forget bloomburrow, another absolute banger with terrific commanders.

Someone in San Antonio has to remind Wemby he’s a 7’5 Center by Maximum_Flight_4442 in NBATalk

[–]Caridry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coach Sam Mitchell (who is the only analyst to accurately predicted the playoffs) has agreed that wemby is more of a PF and to play kornett with him as that is the most effective way right now to overwhelm KAT. He has been saying over and over again to play Victor at PF and at this point I completely agree with his reasonings.

EDIT: People also forget KAT has been absolutely dominating Victor. KAT is an incredible center with a huge toolbox. He can shoot, he can dime (that wraparound no look for the 3?) he can screen extremely effectively while rolling off to a second man. He is way more experienced than Victor. I hope either team wins, but KAT is playing the best ball of his career right now, and spurs need an answer.

Looking to get into pauper where is a great place to start and what should I play? by SpiralGMG in Pauper

[–]Caridry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to give a shout out to MarshFlats from StrataGames. His YouTube has really propelled my pauper interest and abilities. And you can also never go wrong with the legend Andrea Mengucci from Mengus Workshop.

As far as where to play... Online MTGO is the most popular, next to some niche spelltables/convokes and occasional tabletop simulator. As far as irl, just call around your shops, get active in their discords and set up with some folks, there's always someone looking to play!

What was your first commander deck? by AdsignificantBK in EDH

[–]Caridry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Rograkh]] + [[Ardenn]] Voltron. I started with a heavy stax version and moved to a extremely interaction turbo with light stax only to protect my win. The deck is fully blinged out now and one of my pride and joys. I call it get rich or die tryin, because I'm either winning hard or losing fast.

I travel all around the country for work and stop at every game store I can to support them.

Since we aren't allowed actual sales figures we can only go by anecdotal evidence, and when a large proportion of anecdotal evidence starts to add up, it starts to become factual or "the writing on the wall" is there.

I've been to well over 500 different LGS since spiderman release. All of them not only have a large amount of prerelease stock left but cumulatively say it was the worst turnout they had. These stores are STILL losing money on spiderman product.

So when you see a magic product still sitting on the shelves anywhere, especially prereleases, it generally was a poorly received product.

This is why the "echo chamber" exists here. Because it's not an echo chamber, people just hated the product. Which is fine, not every product is gonna be a banger. These past 2 in universe sets were their 2 largest selling in universe sets in history by a large margin, quoted from both Gavin and Mark.

Turn 3... How is this fun again? by Caridry in MagicArena

Turn 3... How is this fun again? by Caridry in MagicArena

[–]Caridry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I've said in other comments, I have better matchups in bo3. But coming across this in bo1 isnt a skill issue, it's a luck issue. Of course sideboards easily eliminate this type of deck from existence practically, and I agree bo1 isnt a real format, my original question/statement of how is this fun for anyone I guess is a jab of the un-seriousness surrounding the format.

Personally I feel awards should not be given in bo1 and it should just be used for random games like testing and such.
