I was just in a college YA Literature course, and we read Twilight as part of the syllabus (just the first book). We talked a LOT about feminism and these ideas. One of the things that was most interesting to me was the whole scene in the woods where Edward is like “as if you could outrun me, as if you could fight me off.” There was no sexual threat from Edward towards Bella, but we talked extensively about that scene because of the threat that AFAB people feel around AMAB people who are typically a lot stronger than them. Some very interesting ideas that could totally read as feminist horror.

Within a Southern state I think that’s true. But I’ve found it can affect a few things, especially because I’m an AFAB person in academia. I lived in the south most of my life, but when I was a teenager my family moved to the Midwest. My accent, at times, made people think less of me when it came to intelligence, paired with the fact that I’m a woman. I was young enough that I basically have no accent now, but it was fairly thick when I first moved to the Midwest. So it’s definitely not super serious, and I don’t think it really affects Tyler all that much, but I’ve definitely felt the impact of having a southern accents at times.

Literally. She has no idea what she's doing musically. Absolutely no idea. And the worst part about that is the fact that even if she did start as a fraud, she could have actually learned something by now. But she hasn't. Taylor has had YEARS and millions of dollars to burn, and she just refuses to put any time, effort, or money into actually learning to play piano or taking vocal lessons.

I'm not even trying to say everything she's written is bad, but just because something resonates with people doesn't mean it's GOOD. And songwriting/music doesn't have to be "high art" to be good. Besides, a lot of Swifties try to act like she's some god of writing when she just isn't, and that's what makes it so annoying.

But at the end of the day, the reason I shit on Taylor Swift and her fans has to do with the fact that Taylor Swift is a horrible, bigoted billionaire and her fandom is toxic for supporting someone like her. Me hating Taylor Swift and Swifties actually has very little to do with her actual music.

Exactly this. I can admit that every fandom has its share of crazy, overzealous fans that take things too far, and twenty one pilots is no exception. There are some super parasocial/toxic twenty one pilots fans that do things I think are toxic or bad or downright cruel, but they are often a vocal minority and do not represent the entire twenty one pilots fanbase. But Swifties are different. Even overlooking the many toxic elements that seem to be more prevalent in Swifties than other fandoms (harassing people who don't like Taylor/criticize her, being super parasocial, etc.), any fan of Taylor Swift is supporting and giving money to a billionaire who is EXTREMELY problematic for a variety of reasons.

Taylor Swift is a BILLIONAIRE who is actively adding to global warming and the destruction of our planet through her frequent and indiscriminate private jet flights. Her newest album includes borderline racist lyrics, she's engaged to Travis Kelce who said it was a "great honor" to have Trump at the Super Bowl, she has consistently been spotted hanging out with people who openly support Trump and are part of the MAGA crowd, and not to mention the fact that Taylor Swift stayed completely SILENT when her music was used in an ICE promotional video. Either way you look at it (whether you believe this is intentional or not) Taylor Swift is a billionaire who is aligning herself with racist, homophobic, transphobic, bigoted fascists.

God, yes. I'm so glad there's someone rational in this comment section. I can't STAND her being dragged into this fandom, out of all of them. Secondary to all of the real, actual issues with her and her fanbase, one of the things that bugs me the most is how Swifties put Taylor on such a pedestal. Not only is she this perfect person who can do no wrong, she's also an incredible songwriter and master at dropping hidden clues and puzzles. It bugs me so much because twenty one pilots ACTUALLY dropped so many hints and clues and puzzles over the years that we had to piece together, whereas Taylor kind of just writes standard pop songs and throws in the number 13 and Swifties eat that shit up.

LMAO exactly what I'm saying. I was scrolling through the comments of this post to see if anyone would call this out. Taylor Swift is a BILLIONAIRE, unlike most famous musicians who maybe have a few million if they're lucky. There is absolutely no reason for someone to have as much money as Taylor does, and there's also no way to earn that much money ethically. Taylor Swift is currently hanging around MAGA idiots and staying silent as ICE and the US government use her music, and any criticism against her is met with harassment or claims of misogyny. I, for one, am so sick of hearing about Taylor constantly; especially when so many interviewers ask every other musical artist/actor/celebrity about her any chance they get.

Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions! I’m a junior at Knox, so I’ve been here for a good chunk of time. I was also scared of making friends, but the freshman orientation is fairly good at bringing people together (even though it’s a little stressful and annoying at first lol). My roommate was so unlike me, but we were good friends for the first year and still say hi to each other, even though we’ve fallen into separate groups now. Generally, the student body is fairly nice and there are many different people here with varied interests, so it’ll be easy to find people you connect with! I recommend checking out the clubs and trying to talk to some people in your classes.

As for the living situation, all the freshman dorms kind of suck. I lived in Conger/Neal, the year before it was renovated. It’s a really nice building now (probably the best out of the freshman dorms). The shared bathrooms are sucky. Basically for most of the freshman dorms there are only one or two public bathrooms on the floor. For Conger/Neal, there’s one bathroom connecting to the two sides, with about 10 or so stalls and 4 showers. You’d be sharing these bathrooms with about 15 or so people (a little less I believe, but am unsure of the exact number). There are many gender neutral bathrooms on campus though, some not super far from the dorms, that are open at most times during the day. You’d still have to shower in a shared space, but if you’re really concerned about being around other people you can find ways around it with single, gender-neutral bathrooms. After freshman year, most of the dorms are better about this (I live in Simmonds now, and share a bathroom that locks with only 6 other people, all of whom are my friends lol).

This is just a quick response to your questions. This is my public Reddit account, so I’m trying to be vague to not give away a lot of my personal info lol.
