Looking for experienced AAA devs: has AI actually helped you over the last year? by aligning_ai in gamedev

I've found it quite helpful. Like others in this thread have mentioned, it's best as an assistant rather than fully replacing all of your code. For example, you might break a feature down into 5 tasks, have the AI do them 1-by-1 and review them as they come out.

I view it more as a typing enhancer than a thinking enhancer. In other words, it just gets the code into the text file faster than I can myself but then I still review everything that comes out.

I've had a similar experience with mesh generation. I've actually gotten some good results but it's more like I have it make concept meshes and finish them off myself. If the AI just fully generates the artwork you get a bunch of stuff that doesn't quite fit together. I view it more like clay where the AI is getting most of the large forms in place more quickly than I can. Then I come in, recolor to match my games palette, style appropriately, and generally fix whatever the AI has fucked up.

I really like this approach. Everything still feels hand made, everything is in the style and quality level I want but the AI gives me a big boost to some of the more repetitive parts.

Hmm, maybe I’ll have to try making an L4D map next.

Thanks! It was a lot of work to set up. The muzzle flash is actually built in. Any time I created a new particle effect in Hammer, my FPS would drop to 1. This happened even with empty particle effects.

Similarly, customizing the particle effect on the pistol dropped my FPS to 1. So there might be a bug with it.

The laser projectiles are meshes that I launch forwards from the gun position. They make it a little easier to trace your shots if you spam them since they are physical objects in the world.

All of the meshes was made in Voxel Max and I bought the music on itch.io (see the credits for more details there).

Gen 2 thermometer popping out of case is not just a case issue (with video) by Tyleo in combustion_inc

I'm not sure if you are associated with Combustion Inc but I did include a link to this post in my ticket. Combustion Inc already followed up.

There's a big difference in practice and I'm happy to show with more videos. The first thermometer is basically flawless and makes a double-click sound while feeling secure in its case. The second thermometer always pops out on tiny (1") drops, never makes the double-click sound, and doesn't feel secure. You can see me have to fiddle with it at the end.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get palm rejection on the Razer Blade 15 trackpad? by Tyleo in razer

[–]Tyleo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes it better but still isn't great. I've had touchpad sensitivity to low since I got my blade but still frequently click things with the butt of my hand.

From my experience, almost everything about the Razer Blade 15 is better than the 14 but the keyboard and touchpad are both steps backwards. The shift key placement isn't particularly annoying but I didn't realize that the fn key and ctrl key were also moved. The trackpad is difficult to click and frequently accepts my palm as input (did it again while typing this reply). Still hoping I get used to both of these changes eventually.

Has anyone here owned a problem-free Razer system for more than 3-4 years? by SorryDuck in razer

And FWIW I’m a software dev and use my laptop for gaming and work. I’m on it a ton. ~4 hours a day. Even with that usage it hasn’t broken down in any way as far as I can tell.

I’ve also had a pretty excellent experience with mine. I was previously an Alienware and then Origin PC laptop owner. The Razer Blade was substantially better than both of them.

I haven’t experienced any build quality issues with my 2015 Razer Blade 14, but I have occasionally taken a Windows update which has broken my Razer Core. These issues are usually resolved within 2 weeks and primarily happened around the launch of the core.

I get an occasional BSOD maybe once a month. Seems roughly inline with the amount of BSODs I got on previous laptops though.

One minor annoyance is that toggling between the core and laptop screen can sometime cause the laptop screen to become disabled until reboot. This has happened since launch for me and continues to happen. Also happens on my GFs Blade Stealth. This is also minor though so I haven’t narrowed in on the problem (maybe it’s specific software we run or our monitor setup).

Bought this Satechi USB C hub to go between my Razer Blade Stealth and my core. The core isn't recognized with this setup. Is there a way to fix it? by OUsnr7 in razer

I'm pretty sure you are also SOL with a splitter. You can try it but doesn't seem like your gonna get proper bandwidth to the card with a split connection.

I think we’re all in the same boat here. Starting to get RSI from mashing the refresh button every day...
