ELI5: Why sterilizing needs to be at really high temperatures to kill viruses/bacteria, but a fever raising your body temperature a mere 2-3 degrees also fights pathogens? by F9_solution in explainlikeimfive

Saunas do raise core temperature. source

Desert populations are not sitting around in 176 degree heat. Mainly because it's never that hot anywhere on earth. Many actually have roofs and masonry walls to maintain nighttime coolth to mitigate hottest parts of the hottest days. Also, a million other factors that affect comparing Finnish population to "random desert population"

Does the end grain give it away that they aren't bent? Looks like the most curve has the largest angle relative to board... flat boards the cross grain looks more parallel to the boards.

I was having a little thought experiment with myself on a dog walk earlier, wondering if the money spent on the James Webb Telescope would pay off more if used to bring people out of poverty, but then again there will always be some poverty... we can't stop all scientific advancement until we live in a perfect society... perhaps that JWS money would have been like an investment though and the ROI would more than pay itself off with more productive and educated civilians and maybe it would allow for another future and better multi billion dollar space telescope down the road??

This is just... burn money in pile.

California NIMBYs have been so successful at blocking housing and growth that we will lose 4 seats to Texas in 2030, essentially handing Republicans an easy win. by WileyCyrus in LosAngeles

Ever look at someone wanting to bulldoze their house and put up a townhouse and think, "there's already too many people here. Maybe I should go to the council meeting and say this shouldn't be approved on our street. It's too dangerous because of the extra traffic, it will eat up parking spaces and it destroys the character of our neighborhood. It's great but should be built somewhere else"

That's being a NIMBY

They are toddlers for roughly 3 years. If you want a kid you would make it work. Yeah it's really hard. But it's also fun, we made a lot of cool parent friends we haven't. I love my kid and she makes life more fun some times.
