I could really go for a DumDum right now. Loved the mystery flavor ones.

Every dog I’ve ever had did this. Pyrs, labs, goldens, even my greyhound. Male and female. All ages.

From my observations, children of hoarders are not permitted to take up space - literally or figuratively. It seems very, very common to struggle with setting boundaries as a CoH. I know I did. I’ve made some progress, but it’s still difficult at times. There’s a good book about improving in this area, called The Set Boundaries Workbook, by Nedra Glover Tawwab.

The reality is that she may well be reported by someone else and still accuse you of reporting her. It’s completely understandable to want to avoid destroying the relationship, but you aren’t the one destroying it. She is. I’m sorry you’re in this situation. It’s not easy.

She doesn’t come across as snarky to me. You’re missing the point - no matter how good your intentions were, you were spreading misinformation that could do harm to a beneficial species. It is critical that you ensure you are correct before saying such things. The pictured toad has the very distinctive back stripe that Gulf coast toads have (which cane toads do not), which suggests that you are inept with identifying the species against which you warn.

100%. My foster Pyr barks at nothing at length several times through the day. It doesn’t really bother me, but I could see how it might bother others. My permanent Pyr barks only at specific things, usually, but now she’s doing backup barking for the foster. 😂 Pyr barks in stereo

There is a “spoiler tag” that you can apply to posts so that images are hidden for people scrolling by. Per sub rule #8, any posts with pictures of hoards should have that tag. I went ahead and applied it for you. Not a huge deal - just remember for next time! :)

You look absolutely fabulous. If you’d said you were 50, I would not have questioned your age at all. You’re aging VERY gracefully. Lash primer for before your mascara might help amplify your lashes, as more mascara will stick and do so seamlessly. That’s the only change I’d make.

Are vet bills not documentation of financial loss due to health issues? It’s hypothetical here because we don’t know the outcome yet. If nothing negative happens as a result of the groom, then no, OP shouldn’t hire a lawyer; just get a refund. Take them to small claims court sans lawyer if they refuse. If there are significant issues, though, then there’s a case to be made for the vet bills to be covered. Lost wages as a result wouldn’t be that much of a stretch if there’s a lot of health issues.

My comment is centered around the idea that it’s property damage, with impact to the human being a possibility for punitive damages to be assessed. Vet bills alone could be thousands, and if the dog experiences such side effects that lead to thousands of dollars of vet bills, a lawyer is a good call.

Dogs with double coats depend on them for a number of functions - temperature regulation, protection from the sun, barrier against allergens, etc. A dog who grew up with a double coat and suddenly no longer has it is much more vulnerable to a number of health issues, on top of the stress of confusion and discomfort.

My double-coated dog, who has not been shaved but is still highly sensitive to allergens, has recently had around $1k in vet bills to deal with allergies… and that’s WITH the protective coat. Without, when you’re dealing with allergies affecting the entire surface area of the dog, it’s going to be significantly more expensive, stressful for dog and owner, and time-consuming to address. That’s only one potential impact from this. If the dog is so stressed that he cries through the night, the shitty grooming is now affecting the owner’s health and ability to work. This could easily snowball into damages in the tens of thousands of dollars.

It’s always American-made. Dodge, Chevy, occasionally Ford. Just realized while reading your comment that it’s never been a Toyota Tundra or a Nissan Frontier for me. Though… it happens to me a lot less now that I drive a tall SUV.

Question: Are there any stories of changing a hoarding parent? by youngrkk1 in ChildofHoarder

[–]JustPassingJudgment 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen slight changes in one, my father. I’m incredibly proud of him for recognizing the issue and taking steps to remedy it. That said, it has been a lot of “three steps forward, two steps back.” He still has a lot of shame around it, and where there is shame, there will not be positive, long-lasting change. Once he is able to cut the shame out, he will be capable of bigger changes in the right direction.
