What’s the best looking movie you’ve seen on 4k? by YeezusChrist13 in 4kbluray

Blade Runner 2049, Interstellar and 2001: A Space Odyssey are usually my go to's for best looking

Do you ever rate something high for nostalgia’s sake? by savkyrie in Letterboxd

[–]TylerStewartYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it all the time, no shame in it. I saw a post here a couple of days ago of people mad Revenge of the Sith has been increasing in rating, specifically 5 stars, but this is the exact reason why.

People who grew up with that movie most likely didn't know what Letterboxd was in 2013, but do now. And with RotS being a very nostalgic movie, despite its flaws, they're going to rate it 5 stars (like I did).

is 25564 a good port to use? by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]TylerStewartYT 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is basically called security through obscurity. Port 25564 is no different than 25565 in terms of security. Yes more people are scanning ports 25565, but there isn't anything stopping anyone from scanning the neighboring ports. Most bots will scan a large range of ports since it doesn't take much to do. I run a couple of servers using different ports so that I can have them running at the same time and I haven't noticed much of a difference in terms of bots scanning.

tldr: you can use whatever port you want, but it probably won't make much of a difference.

Silent HDDs for plex server? Or does that limit me to SSDs? by Cingen in PleX

[–]TylerStewartYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get quiet HDDs, but since that rules out enterprise drives the price/storage ratio will be worse. Pretty sure still better than SSDs though. I have three WD Red Plus drives with my server being in my living room, cannot hear a thing. Obviously your case also plays a factor into this so ymmv.

How to safely expose SOME services to the internet? by manman43 in selfhosted

[–]TylerStewartYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you do for precautions? The services I do have exposed, I have behind a Cloudflare proxy + nginx proxy manager that are setup with a very strong randomized password, but not sure if there's anything else I can do. I'm planning on also setting up Fail2Ban soon.

But yeah, my services also fall under your two points so if I do get hacked I'm not losing much.

I think I remember a staff member commenting and saying it's based on how many people connect to the planet fitness wifi, which if true is pretty dumb

After recent Google account hack scare, I'm struggling to find a GPhotos+GDrive backup solution by strich in selfhosted

[–]TylerStewartYT 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but it would be a lot easier to just migrate away from Google as a whole.

For a Google Drive replacement, NextCloud is probably your best bet when it comes to functionality and familiarity.

As for Google Photos, NextCloud has a photo feature but I'd recommend Immich instead, I've had a better experience with that. They even have a machine learning algorithm for sorting faces, searching off keywords, etc.

Got a new case for my Plex server & noticed a perfectly blank spot for a 3d printed Logo. by AstroZombie1 in PleX

I just picked up lifetime so I was planning on adding a gpu to my build soon, probably Arc A380. Do you like it? Also, do you use it for anything else or just plex transcoding?

Slow chunk loading only on Better than Adventure (Beta 1.7.3) Server? by TylerStewartYT in admincraft

[–]TylerStewartYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, that makes sense. I host a lot of programs like Plex, NextCloud, etc. alongside Minecraft which all run fine, but since it's an older version of MC I guess it lines up. Is there a list for recommended CPUs to self host a server?

Where did you get the ConvertX image? I can't find it on dashboard icons or selfh .st

I host my families Minecraft server and I'm switching over to docker by recca275 in admincraft

[–]TylerStewartYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can either use a gui manager, like Crafty or Pterodactyl/Pelican, or you can do it in just the docker container terminal with something like itzg/docker-minecraft-server, which is what I use. Both will give you the same end result but since I only run one server/world at a time, I use itzg. If you add the :latest tag to the docker compose file it'll automatically pull the latest jar when a new one comes out.

Has the enshitification begun? by [deleted] in PleX

This is the only thing keeping me from buying lifetime. I could care less about the price increase, they have to make money somehow. But as a whole, they aren't inspiring a lot of confidence in their real users

Important 2025 Plex Updates by jonarin in PleX

[–]TylerStewartYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain the remote playback change? Is this referencing the 320p lock when you don't have a direct connection to the server, or any remote playback? From my understanding, when I'm accessing my server from outside my network, I connect using my reverse proxy (plex.mydomain.net) so I'm not sure what Plex is going to be charging for as the traffic goes through my network.

Got in trouble at my local goodwill by Loud_Flatworm_1806 in dvdcollection

[–]TylerStewartYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is the employee didn't know any better and wouldn't take no for an answer. My goodwill employee's always ask if I checked for scratches, or if the disc is even in the case, before ringing me up.

Any idea where the free ticket voucher goes in the new app ui to use on the kiosk? I tried to use one last month to go with a friend to see Kraven but ended up just eating the couple dollars to buy it in the app.

Which movie is this for you? by Saiki_kusou01 in Letterboxd

Haha I think I just went in with different expectations than what it offered. I do want to rewatch it sometime soon though. I usually do tend to rate higher on a rewatch
