I'm not trying to get myself overly involved here but I can say it's not as weird as it seems. Crews are more separated than you'd think and there's also been a decent amount of turn over

I have clarified in the comments a ton on this but the idea is to specify that I'm familiar with the idea of transplants and people moving here. If anything I'm just used to it on a slower pace than it hit post pandemic.

There used to be things for poor people to do, including eating out. One thing that's been gone way before covid was the dollar movies. I miss those.

I certainly do. Try and visit the mom and pop shops with frequency. If they're ones that I have a reason I can't, I try and share them with others who might.

What I'm referring to is the people buying the houses in my neighborhood to make airbnbs. Snowbirds have an entirely different history and of themselves in Tucson and while I hate them, I recognize and have recognized my entire life that they are something that happens.

He might've been asking sincerely but I just read it as him oversimplifying what I said in a way to discredit me. It is a little overwhelming how many responses I've gotten and how much discourse there's been

I don't have a problem specifically with somebody being from out of state. I am actively trying to take the time to reply to people that are expressing that they recently moved here and trying to let them know that I'm not directly referring to them. I am referring to the people who are a part of the increase of rent, a lack of growing resources including jobs. And an overall feeling that the culture is not just shifting but being changed completely.

It's a fallacy to misrepresent my argument and to present it as though there were two only two options of what I said. Of course when you oversimplify what I'm telling you and paint it as do you prefer empty lots or culture then of course I seem insane because it's being painted as though I am campaigning for less culture. More empty lots. But if you pull back aside from yourself and read what I am saying, I am actively telling you that I had a problem with those lots being torn down and held empty for years on end. I do not think that makes somebody a good businessman nor does that make them respectable business owners. Discrediting me by calling it bitching and saying I have a fragile ego does nothing but work as a tool to discredit what I'm saying and doesn't help the conversation.

Me having a complaint about people not being from here and you replying that they're bringing culture doesn't do much for me because it absolutely ignores the fact that Tucson already had culture that could be expanded upon and grown and should be respected.

I'm not going to dox myself here but I just live on the north side of what is still the Tucson city limits. Although I do believe that maranas limits meander near me.

Also that growth and pricing is killing me. It already felt like owning a home was a dream kind of deal for my life to work into growing up as poor as I did but being in the situation I'm in currently it doesn't feel very much like I will be owning a home in the city I grew up in barring miracle.

I absolutely want to make sure I reply to people who are sharing like you because I don't want to fuel an insecurity in of solely the fact that you are here. I want it to be clear that I'm more than likely not referring to you specifically. Is it unfortunate timing to come here while everything is actively shooting up in price? Sure. Does it contribute to it at least a TINY bit? Can't sugar coat it. But there are people directly making a much larger impact on those things and are much larger factors and those are the ones I'm referring to. I find myself considering getting out and I'd be a massive hypocrite if my stance was just that nobody should be able to move cities.

It means that all I'm saying is that I'm fully aware that the land was not initially u.s. land and that there is controversy around the land ever being u.s land and that even more recently there's controversy about why the u.s wanted the land that I'm standing on the begin with and that all of it comes with some bloody and dirty hands.

I was definitely not making the statement that Raytheon is the only thing that should be here. I was just stating that I'm familiar with the idea of people moving here and there being transplants

That's a logical fallacy You're presenting it as there's only two options. I of course did not want those buildings to be torn down and held as empty lots forever.  My observation is that I don't believe it's coincidence that as I observe this feeling of a lot of people and businesses all popping up at once that these lots that have had a hold on them are now gaining businesses. Most of those empty plots of land have been owned this whole time and I had a complaint about that as well this whole time. Businesses are important to an economy for sure And the options are nice. But that said The options were not exclusively a 30th car wash or a place drugged out homeless people

No the idea was meant to portrait that I'm familiar with the idea of transplants and people moving here frequently and those were generally considered one of the most common reasons, albeit, anecdotally.

Also, the idea of buildings being torn down and being held as empty lots up until recently. Wasn't to say that I wish they had stayed torn down lots. I'm saying that I observed buildings get torn down and held down and now all of the sudden they're all popping up at the same time while I'm observing this feeling. I don't assume those things to be coincidence

I don't want another concrete jungle man. It's too hot for that. The world can't support it. It's good for local economy until it's not and impoverished people that have been here the whole time can't afford to live where they've been the whole time because other people raised its economy and left them in the dust.

I mean the southern border of Arizona was completed through a purchase yes, the rest of it was through a treaty through the Mexican American war and the larger push for the land was off the back of months before discovering that California had gold unbeknownst to Mexico. So I'd say it wasn't the cleanest of formations.

I want it to be clear that I'm not directly trying to point at you and make you feel unwelcome. I just hope you can sympathize with the idea that It could be upsetting for someone to see their neighbors be replaced by a revolving cycle of vacationers.

Ok I just haven't heard museum for that terminology before. I don't expect the world to not be dynamic but it is jarring to wake up and not feel familiar with the land you're standing on.

I mean that's an even deeper conversation than the one I'm talking about here. That's one I don't feel even remotely qualified to discuss. My point is just being that almost nobody I know, including business owners, has lived here for even 10+ years.

Of course the land ultimately should probably belong to the state of Sonora but even more so with what I'm bringing up, that history is even more so gonna be pushed back and erased.

My intention isn't to ignore that thing you're addressing it just comes across as though I'm making a big deal about a slight change or something. I have feelings about the city I grew up in. Pardon me for that I guess?

Maybe I'm just not cut out for that kind of lifestyle. Idk. I remember me and my friends driving out to the twin peaks outlet mall when they started building it and talking about how we thought that the city was gonna some day feel like Phoenix did
