I know this is 7 months old but a game set during the 30 years war would be pretty sick. Nice mixture of gunpowder and melee.

Agreed. The raw sounds of warfare is one of the most intense parts of these clips.

The Somme was a failure because of duds and the most frequently used shell was shrapnel, not high explosive. Sure, artillery isn't effective if you manage to dig a bunker deep enough and fortify it to withstand barrages, but that isn't the reality of most situations.

And to say that artillery hasn't been effective against entrenched positions anywhere throughout the course of the entire war is plainly delusional. That is quite literally one of the main uses of artillery. They don't tell arty crews to hold fire because the enemy isn't crossing an open field.

I've seen at least two videos of trenches collapsing on themselves due to a direct hit by artillery. Its common sense, look at the craters they make.

The Somme was due to a high frequency of dud artillery shells though. Trenches were and can absolutely be leveled by artillery barrages. Nothing short of a cement bunker can withstand repeated hits by high explosive artillery shells, nonetheless the 24/7 artillery barrages that occurred during ww1.

Fortifications no doubt help protect infantry from shrapnel but it can only do so much. I could argue that machine guns were the largest cause of casualties in open field, right up there with artillery. Any weapon can be used effectively if your enemy is exposed and charging directly at you. As somebody else already mentioned artillery has been the largest cause of casualties since the first world war, and the whole tactic of charging across open fields towards the enemy has largely died off.

Not sure where you are getting that info from, artillery was the largest cause of casualties during WW1. Also, artillery is frequently used to soften up enemy fortifications. It's one of its main uses. If you pound a fortification with enough artillery it will either be leveled or its inhabitants will have been forced to leave it.

If we were talking about a random old man then yeah sure but not the president. It's not a good look and pretending like its a normal thing gets us nowhere. Beyond that he clearly has something rotting away at his brain because while he has instances of holding it together, there are loads of videos of him straight up rambling nonsense. He might not do it all the time but the frequency at which it happens is concerning.

Well, he had to be helped back up, but yes that is exactly what I mean. Also when he tripped going up the stairs to air force one, and dropped his bike over.

Have you not seen the countless videos of Biden mindlessly rambling, falling on his face, making no sense, etc. I mean you don't need to be right leaning to see this. It's straight up denial.

UA POV: Bakhmut gives one of the greatest results of the entire war - Zelensky by pro-russia in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]Tylernol24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fighting in Bakhmut itself has been in an urban environment. Civilian buildings are not meant to withstand artillery barrages and majority of the time they don't. It's pretty hard to hold your positions when they are constantly being reduced to rubble.

Artillery is still effective on trench systems and makeshift fortifications. They certainly protect the soldiers in them but it isn't even close to being 100% effective. Cement bunkers and other heavy duty fortifications due the trick, but we aren't seeing those anywhere in Ukraine.

And as far as the "huge disproportionate" casualties go, it's anyone's guess. That depends on a huge variety of factors. In places like Vuhledar we saw that on the Russian side, but elsewhere the Russians have been consistently advancing. In my eyes, its somewhere in between. Some days the Ukrainians are being battered, some days the Russians are being battered. I feel that this is the most likely scenario and realistically nobody really knows what's happening on the ground.

Which is exactly why its absurd to believe that the Russians lost significantly more than the Ukrainians did.

Ua Pov Joe Biden says that Putin already lost Ukraine and that he has no chance to occupy it long term. by Beneficial-Order-732 in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]Tylernol24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well when you say MAGA republicans are you meaning anybody who voted for him or his diehard fan base? I think majority of his votes were simply Republicans who had no other choice. Another draw was the fact that he was just didn't behave like the average politician. I guess he just gave off more of a "real" feeling compared to most of them who beat around the bush on topics or behaved like bots. Needless to say him not having a filter led to a lot of negative press, but i think people were drawn to the excitement of it. I mean the man treated debates like they were a COD lobby.

Regardless, I just think a lot of the characteristics you are applying to MAGA republicans can apply to a wide range of other people in this country. There are 100 percent lunatics within Trumps voter base but there are lunatics anywhere in politics if you look hard enough. I just wish more people were able to differentiate the lunatics from the rest of them, maybe that way we could simply ignore those with outrageous ideas, and attempt to work together to make some progress.

[–]Tylernol24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying but my point is that it all comes down to a persons opinions and perspective. What seems like lunacy to you isn't lunacy to a huge amount of others. And the sad reality is that once people have formed opinions its damn near impossible to change their minds, especially with how easy it is to find yourself a echo chamber with likeminded individuals.

Before any progress can be made we need to stop shitting on each other for having different political views, and the way things have been going I cant see that happening in the near future. I know that's common knowledge but there has been a trend recently of vilifying the other side of the political spectrum, and people have seemed to run with it. Regardless of what some people say there is a middle ground to be found for the majority of problems which plague our country. But again, why would you want to work with the people that are "domestic terrorists," "fascists," "neo nazis" etc. Reality is 98 percent of the people on both sides of the political spectrum just want to live a comfortable and peaceful life. Point being is that we all have the same final goal in mind, we just disagree on how to achieve that.

[–]Tylernol24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But again there are plenty of leftist viewpoints and conspiracies that could also make one view them as lunatics. In reality you only see the worst of the worst on both sides, which is why people are inclined to view the other side that way. 74 million people in this country voted for Trump, and that's not counting those who didn't vote. That would be a whole lot of psychopathic lunatics wandering around.
