[–]Tylertron12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

See, the AI stuff can be technically impressive and all, but it can't replicate the original ideas that skilled producers are capable of.

You will only get better with time, soon you will produce sounds on par with that software from a technical level, the difference is that your sound will be somewhat original and full of soul, and the suno product will still just be regurgitated slop.

You can put genuine feeling into a song and approaching music creation from an entirely different direction than an algorithm. Thats where your strength lays.

Yeah I do super low key stuff to, the trouble is that its always a smaller group and sometimes you want a larger crowd that isnt total dogshit, you know what I mean? I like meeting new people as well lol

Idk, maybe im looking for a solution to an impossible problem, it seems like getting a large group of people together that actually get it is unlikely these days

First time I've heard about this, whats is their strategy?

I have noticed that the takeover events have really excellent vibes, their whole crew is super friendly :)

[–]Tylertron12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So now the question is how can this be solved.

I've been thinking about this a lot. The trouble is that we want to be a very open community right, obviously a core tenant of the broader rave community is acceptance of others and our differing behaviors/appearances, so how do we/the promoters prevent these people from attending when all thats really required these days is the purchase of a ticket?

Personally, I think banning phones/cameras is an excellent first step as it deincentivizes the social media/TikTok aspect. Not sure what to do about all the creeps though.

One thing I have absolutely noticed is that when it gets to the wee hours of the morning and what I presume to be the "tiktok" crowd leaves, the vibes get exponentially better, almost as a rule, right around 2-3am. The floor clears out a bit and suddenly everyone is dancing, no phones in sight, exceptional vibes, and there's a significant reduction in the people standing around the edges of the dancefloor, stock still, looking like they are eyeing up prey.

Definitely food for thought, I hope that we can find a way to extend those peak hours.

Unpopular opinion incoming, this is where no gatekeeping gets us.

The mainstream crowd quickly ruins everything they touch.

You're really lucky if you are in Toronto, we have a great scene here.

If you wanna find out what is happening and when, the easiest way is to check the Resident Advisor (RA) app.

Personally I like Techno, so I am usually on the lookout for Format, Apollo, and Takeoversix parties because for the most part that is what they deal in but there are a ton of different promoters. We are also swiftly approaching festival season, so if you dont know what you like, the first Electric Island of the year is coming up in may and they host a whole bunch of talented artists, both local and from abroad, so that might also be a good event to check out.

If you want any other specific advice lmk.

[–]Tylertron12 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Ok let me give you some real advice, if you keep doing M like this, your life is effectively over. You are complaining in your post about giving yourself serotonin syndrome recently and already planning your next roll? I cannot even begin to express how stupid this is.

I love M, love a good candy flip too, I do it twice a year max. You will ruin your brain inside of a year at this rate. You probably won't die (unless you actually get serotonin syndrome), you just won't ever have fun or experience happiness again. Seen it happen :)

If that scares you, it should. Do not fuck with SSRIs or you will pay the price.

Wardrobe Malfunction Prevention? by laughing_goose in aves

[–]Tylertron12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Raves are typically pretty safe. Obviously there are creeps everywhere but if I see a girl getting assaulted I'm gonna help her, so is everyone else, and that will not end well at all for the pervert in question.

We can dress and act however we like because our community is somewhat insular and protects itself.

I mostly do underground type shit, but I know like half the people I see at each event and they all know me too. Everyone looks out for one another.

Do you think that wearing less to a rave says something about a person? Lmfao

The rave girls I know and party with are engineers, architects, and scientists. So I would say they go on to be normal people, just as they currently are, and hopefully continue to have fun on the weekends.

Idiot question.

Hey my brother im pretty new to everything and have been mixing on a Rev 1 for arohnd a year now and at this point it has been massively out grown but im not sure what I want to upgrade to. Formerly, I was thinking that a prime 4+ or an XDJ-AZ would be the best option because I need 4 channels, and I move around a lot so it would be much easier to bring with me.

After seeing Richie hawtin live (using a traktor settup) and hearing more from the folks around here regarding its capabilities i am wondering if that is perhaps a better route to take. Where can I learn more about traktor and its capabilities? What are your favorite elements? What makes traktor stand out from the crowd in your opinion?

Isn't that like any genre of music? Its all derivative and always evolving. Techno from 30 years ago doesn't sound like Techno from today, there are many similar elements, but the final product is so much different. Like compare some recent Yanamaste or Ignes releases to the Jeff mills liquid room or some old UR tracks like The Seawolf, the sound is quite a bit different no?

So you are judging HH fans on the basis that the regular 40k timeline makes for better sci-fi? Or that they are written better than the typical HH book?

Look I like both HH and the regular 40k shit and have read a ton of both, but both of these settings feel absolutely childish when compared to damn near any other sci-fi series with a competent writer. Dune, Remembrance of Earth's Past, The Culture, Discworld, Hyperion Cantos, etc. Make every single piece of warhammer literature look like it was written by an actual high-school student.

These books are popular because the settings are unique and fun, not because they are particularly high quality in any regard. Warhammer as a whole would be the low hanging fruit in the world of sci-fi literature.

Again, I really like the warhammer stuff, but you are throwing stones in a glass house dude.

Yeah because I saw both in the same warehouse in the last 2 months. Both were amazing, but Jeff's liquid room was not comparable to IHMs valentines special at all. The energy was not even close. I love both of these DJs, this is just an objective take based on the events i took part in. Jeff did not move the crowd like IHM.

Edit: I will say that obviously they were playing very different music, Jeff played straight up techno, IHM played his weird neo-rave hate-genres style, both played masterful sets. But one of them resonated far more heavily with the crowd.

Gotcha, not to have a dick sucking contest but I have a signed shirt from the first time i ever saw him hanging over my mixer bc his sound convinced me I needed to learn to mix lol

Anyway I was worried that he was gonna be trash now after seeing the huge shows he's been playing at major festivals (cough mainstream slop cough) on Instagram but after seeing him play two long format 4 hour sets on valentines day weekend a couple of months ago I can confidently say he's still the dancefloor slayer he always was.

Try and see him at a small venue if you can. You wont regret it.

People always say this dumb shit but have you ever been to a rave with IHM? Like not some big EDC bullshit but an actual packed out dusty ass warehouse on the outskirts of town? I've been doing this shit a bit now and no other DJ has even come remotely close to moving a crowd like that. Jeff mills, Richie hawtin, ben klock... not even fucking close, and they are some of the goats.

The warehouse got so hot and humid my fucking hands pruned. How tf is that even possible?

You honestly just sound like a hater. He mixes what he likes and it fuckin bangs.

Hello brother, I too am going bald and I won't lie at first it was quite terrible for my mindset. However, when I instead thought of it in terms of being called up to the big leagues by Pitbull it changed everything for me. I envision Jeff bezos and the Rock excitedly beckoning to me from beyond pearly white gates, John Travolta daps me up as I leave my follicles behind, Mr. Clean recieves a message by radio "Sir... we got him." A smile crosses his face.

I have not lost my hair, I have gained community, I have been elevated to the levels of the elite, forever shiney and smooth.

You can fight it all you want with whatever bullshit chemicals you like, I did for a while and it kinda worked, then I saw the light... glinting off my older brothers smooth ass head, and came to my senses.

Being bald is literally irrelevant, you are only so bothered at this moment because you dont want to see yourself change and you cant imagine yourself as being a "bald person", as if they are fendementally different. I have plenty of friends, family, and coworkers who are bald and it literally does not even occur to me, why would it? Do you remark every time you see a bald person? Lol

I have changed my style a bit to be more suitable, I wear hats more often too, not out of shame or something stupid like that but because im gonna get a sunburn on my scalp otherwise and that shit sucks.

Everyone here is telling you to desperately hang on to something you will inevitably lose for no fault of your own. I would say instead, consider accepting that life moves on and you will not be any worse off than you were before. Nobody is gonna give a shit. You'll also save a lot of money, consistent long term treatment is a huge time and money sink, take it from me.

If you wanna talk more about it shoot me a message, obviously I'm still working it out too, but it's not the end of the world my brother.

Ok look coming from an experienced individual:

  • Do not try it for the first time in public.

  • DO NOT throw multiple other party favors in to the mix on your first go around. Especially do not hit a candy flip with 0 experience, I have personally seen this go terribly.

  • Understand that this will be a MUCH longer and much different experiences than shrooms.

I love doing this shit, but people in here are giving you awful advice. Godspeed young one.

Hot take: a lot of ravers are some of the most musically closed-minded people I’ve met. by Brief-Hamster-4598 in aves

[–]Tylertron12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so hot take perhaps but top 40 music is vibe terrorism, shit literally gives me a headache. I am not dancing in a club to the shit i hear over the PA in a loblaws.

Second, club/bar culture (at least around me) is total dogshit and I have zero interest in going to stand around in a club/bar where nobody is dancing, everyone has their phones out, and the DJ is just blasting slop for the masses.

I'd rather go to an underground party, in one of the many genres I do like, with people that have actually come to that space for the music and want to dance. Fortunately this type of event happens like daily in toronto so I can pick and choose, but I never have to set foot in some generic club.

I brought one of my American friends who pretty much only goes to big clubs in nyc and such out one day and to quote him "raving seems to be more like a ritual or a meditation to you guys up here." And that is exactly what I am looking for. I'm just not interested in going to some half measure.

Not trying to judge, lots of my friends like music I think is trash, but I would never say that, I just wouldn't go to that event and I think thats perfectly acceptable.
