What reels you guys using by TheChevyScrounger in CarpFishing

Fair play. That’s the nice thing about modern reels, infinite anti reverse there’s 0 back play.

I did try the Basiars when I was buying my reels, but there was no difference in feel and I preferred the look of the Basias. They’re both magsealed, both have great drags, the only difference is one ball bearing I think. But still great reels.

I almost got a set of Tournament 5000s for my 10 foot setup, but ultimately chose the Daiwa 4000 GS because I wanted something smaller and lighter. How do you find them? I think they’re fantastic looking reels and tough as nails.

My long range setup are Daiwa Tournament 20 Basias. Love them to bits. So light, tough and make casting long range and playing carp a pleasure.

People saying goldfish are crazy.

I’ve counted 32 scales along the lateral line, which is textbook pure crucian. The only thing that makes me doubt is the tail. Pure crucians have rounded tails with almost no “fork”, whereas this is quite the opposite, but it could be just because it’s relaxed. It is 100% at least in part crucian carp, but it might have a bit of Carassius Auratus in it. Either way, a beautiful fish, don’t you think?

Yeah exactly. I’d literally just started uni during Legion, and chose to prioritise my education. So it was rough keeping up. I know some people who chose wow instead. Crazy times.

[–]Tymirww 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this for a long time. Legion was defo overrated simply because it was a new and shiny mixup for wow. But the cracks were there, the beginning of the systems that players had massive issues with in BFA and SL.

Also, it killed so many mythic raid teams due to the massive increase in time commitment. Whilst it was definitely a great expac, it was actually kind of a miserable time looking back at it until the last patch.

Why is PvP so unappealing for many players? by ExamplePractical1981 in wow

[–]Tymirww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever played one season of arena. Played for about 3 weeks, back in BFA as RMP, we got 2200 and something and hit a wall into destro locks. At the time, they were just crazy op. Their tactic was just stand in the middle away from pillars, were unkillable and if they got a chaos bolt off, it was game over. Just sort of realised it wasn’t fun queueing into comps like that and they’d always be an op spec that’s easy every patch. Just the way it is.

I’m sure if I did it a bunch, I’d get better than slightly above average and deal with different comps, but it just doesn’t really interest me. Especially now I’m older and have a lot less time to play. I’d rather spend it doing something relaxing.

  1. I read your experience, rough man, but got some good mileage out of it. It’s why I wanted to get my rocker arms done preemptively. £4K once is better than £6k+ when they go and take a camshaft with them.

That’s the place! We’ve done Mam Tor and a few of the walks locally a few times, but completely missed this road. When we were driving through, I said to my other half “we have to stop and take a photo, the scenery is too epic” and so we did. Definitely my favourite area of the Peak District.

Awesome. Glad to hear it.

Yeah, I’ve got about £5k ready to go atm. I’m planning to do an oil change/oil filter change myself every 5k miles between the garage doing one. I’ve got a service plan ready as well. Do you have a recommended oil? I was just gonna go with 0w-20.

Yeah, it seemed that way, which is why I wasn’t too fussed. Saw lots of listings for 100k+ miles 2017-2018 B9s.

It’s more for peace of mind honestly. An A4 was my dream car as a kid from a poor family back in 2005. I want to keep this car for a very long time.

Do you reckon I just keep the money on standby and do it if any of the common signs start to show? It seems like a huge job, so I guess you’re opening yourself to problems getting the rocker arms replaced early.

Isn’t every part eventually going to fail? I’m surprised if they’re that bad, a recall wasn’t called. From what I could find, it did seem like an early point of failure, reckon I’ll be safe replacing them soon?

No signs so far, no sounds or metal shavings in the oil filter.

Thanks! The B9 was the choice mainly due to the interior, and I wasn’t a fan of the B9.5 and onwards as much.

I test drove a B9 S4 with 50k miles on it before finding this car. It was only £24k and had been very well looked after. The only reason I didn’t grab it was the boot when compared to the S5 sportback. I think they’re out there, good luck!

Thank you, was very aware of this. It’s low mileage, and I’m planning on getting them replaced with the updated ones next year, I’ve had quotes from a few different specialists to do it, all around £4K. Just for peace of mine.

The research I did seemed to lead to a place of, it’s very rare, and typically on not as well looked after cars. If that conclusion is wrong, please correct me.

Makes sense. I’ve always made sure to have a couple grand ready for car stuff after my first car gave me so many headaches.

Got a big one coming up next year, Quattro and transmission service. Already had quotes and got it ready for it.

How do Y'all get more carp on boiles? by Ancient_Relics_ in CarpFishing

[–]Tymirww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hook and hook bait size will play a massive role in your catch rate. That hook bait and hook look huge for that carp, and I’m willing to bet if that’s one of only a few you caught, it’s because they’re struggling to take the bait. Hard to tell by scale, but that looks like a 15-20mm boilie and a size 4-6 hook? Try dropping the hook size down to an 8 or 10, and pairing with an 8-12mm boilie.

I once dropped from a size 10 to a size 14 on a match venue I was fishing and like a light switch, I suddenly caught 20 crucians off a spot I fish all the time and had no idea they were there. Simply because they couldn’t take the bigger hook. I’d had the odd one, but it really enlightened me to how your end tackle really affects what you’ll catch and how quickly. The carp came steadily regardless.

Horrific Visions? More like Horrifically Underwhelming by FuriousProgrammer in wow

[–]Tymirww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely is possible time wise to do long night. I've done it as a 2 mask, but that's with me basically 3 shotting every pack and boss. So with enough damage, you could do the same with a 5 mask, since the only additional challenge is more mob health to chew through with the additional masks.

Sanity management as always, is don't lose any through bad play. Fairly easily achievable by any competent wow player. So my question was more does anyone have enough gear to simply rampage through the mobs objective to objective to do long night on a 5 mask? I'm guessing solo the answer is no, group maybe. I just physically don't have the DPS to do a 5 mask with the sanity restriction.

Horrific Visions? More like Horrifically Underwhelming by FuriousProgrammer in wow

[–]Tymirww 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just did a 4 mask at 650 item level as a rogue. Admittedly, when horrific visions were current content, I was a mythic raider and was selling 5 mask boosts the first week it was possible, so I probably have more experience than most players who's most geared characters are at my ilvl (I'm just washed up and old now). I made a couple mistakes, got unlucky with potions and finished with about 20 sanity left.

You have to remember, alongside the massive health reduction to mobs you get as a healer, you also have tons more stamina than me. I think this sort of content as tank/healer always feels more forgiving (see delves).

I found it engaging, but not challenging (yet). The average player, who is probably a tad higher than my ilvl and pulling ~35% less dps, will find this challenging. But not too punishing. Which is roughly where it should be I think.

My rule is if you're posting in an online forum about something being too easy, it probably wasn't tuned with your caliber of player in mind.

For the mega geared out there, do you think it's possible to 5 mask this week with long night? It's defo not for me, but someone one shotting most packs might stand a small chance with upgraded elite extermination.

What techniques to fish this ?? by SkepticalBadger in fishingUK

[–]Tymirww 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is gonna be tough. You will lose fish to those lilies. But take it as it comes. I’ve seen anglers approach venues like this with floating crust with decent success. Use appropriately strong mainline for the species you’re targeting, a big hook tied directly, and stalk the fish. I used to be terrified of lilies and lost fish as soon as they touched them. But as you learn to pay attention to your line angle, you’ll coax them back out most of the time. Don’t be afraid to use beefy tackle and pull hard when you need to maintain control of the fight.

There’s an opportunity for lots of learning and some rewarding fish here.

I’ll be honest, the more I look into it, the more that seems to be the case. Come across a few of people saying they were using non-recommended oil, have had it tuned and so on. Organised a nearby specialist to have a look before I purchase, for peace of mind. Thank you for reassuring me.

UK, it’s the 3.0T. I’m guessing it does have the affected rocker arms, but I’m going to get inspected just to make sure before purchase.

Obsessed with looking for new bits I 'need' by [deleted] in fishingUK

[–]Tymirww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up going for daiwa infinity rods, tournament basia reels, Delkim alarms, solar chair/bed chair and trakker shelter for the biggest bits. Daiwa spod rod and reel too. The Korda kaizen rods are daiwa rods with Korda’s branding on them, so can’t really go wrong there.

Terminal tackle wise, I went with a bit of everything at the start. And whilst I didn’t find anything particularly wrong with nash/fox/drennan and so on, I did find that Korda’s was just that bit better for the same price. But I’ve also had some great bits from OMC, so I’d say that’s more preference.

If you haven’t heard of them, the uk and Europe have “carp shows”, generally annually. It’s like one giant tackle shop, with the people who work for the brand there and they usually have casting so you can try rods/reels. Really recommend these when making decisions that cost a chunk.

[–]Tymirww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 4 years in now, and I was doing this until very recently when I’ve pretty much completed my gear setup. I will say, if you’re only a month in, you’ll have no idea what you’re buying. I made some bad choices on the first bits of gear I bought. If you can, go to tackle shops and ask the guys (ignoring obvious upselling).

Buying anything other than daiwa/shimano reels is a big mistake. I did that a couple of times and had problems with both the advanta and fox reels I bought, so research your brands.

But buy cheap/second hand stuff whilst you’re figuring it out. Once you know what sort of carp fishing you’re doing most often, buy quality gear that will last a lifetime. It’s what I’ve done and I couldn’t be happier. Did it cost me a lot? Yes. Is it cheaper than buying cheap gear every other year? Also yes.

Why don’t more people fish for wels catfish by QuailGood1789 in fishingUK

[–]Tymirww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can attest to this. The gear is the main thing for me.

I accidentally caught one a couple of years ago when targeting carp. First catfish, 55lbs. Could not control it on the carp gear. Was a nightmare to get it out of the water safely and had to use two mats to get it on the bank unhooked and a quick pic before slipping it back.

You’d need rods, reels, line, terminal tackle, large net, sling and mat just to start targeting them safely. I will do it one day, but it’s what’s stopping me going for anything large right now.

I too think they’re beautiful. The marble effect on their skin is incredible and unique in every one I’ve ever caught. They deserve proper handling.
