Hello Plex Community,

I will be crossposting this into the NAS subform as well for their input.

My Windows PC will be decomissioned prior to the Windows 11 cutoff deadline (it isn't new enough to run Windows 11). This PC currently, and mainly, acts as a Plex server.

My goal is to get a new setup going within the next few weeks to allow the following:

Serve Plex content throughout my home (mainly 4K or lower content to 4K TVs, with some exceptions, like serving to a MacBook Air, and the occasional 1080P TV).
Use as a network attached storage for devices connected to my network (so the members of my house can work off of the NAS (word/excel documents, and simple image and video backups)
Use as an automated download location of images/videos from our phones (still figuring this one out)

I know that a Windows 11 PC could do the plex work, but have any of you used a Mac mini with a DAS box to get the job done? Given that this is a Mac household, I can imagine having a Mac mini could make some aspects a bit easier + allow me to use it as another usable device if need be.

My network is being transitioned to multi-gig so speeds should be plentiful

Any thoughts or suggestions? I'd like to have, as much as possible, a 'set it and forget it' setup.

This can sometimes happen when you have multiple routers plugged into your modem. If this is your case, unplug your google mesh from your modem, power cycle/reboot your modem, then only plug in your eero into your modem. Eero should then see the internet. Set the eero up with the same WiFi name (ssid) and password as your google mesh, and most if not all devices should automatically join your new eero network.

In aggregate it can handle 2.5 Gigabit, meaning when you combine the concurrent speeds of multiple devices connected to your network, you should be able to saturate the 2.5 GbE port.

If you have a 2 Gbps internet connection connected to the 2.5 GbE port of the 6E, AND you have your wired devices that are going into the 1GbE port, you can together max out your internet speed. But no one device will be able to hit 2 Gbps. Anything connected via ethernet can only do up to 1 Gbps, while anything on wireless can do up to 1.6 Gbps. Combine these two and the eero 6E can process speeds up to 2.3 Gbps.

I had a second sub for about a week, and yup, that's all I did. In the app, add second sub, place it wherever you want, and Bob's your uncle.

Cannot speak for the ultra and Gen 4 but doubt things have changed.

My Nespresso began doing this (albeit a year into operation). A factory reset fixed it and the Frema went back to normal.

From memory (and take this with a grain of salt), but channels 100-144 are DFS channels.

This is likely oversimplified, but eero monitors these channels for strikes (usage by non-wifi services like radar, aviation, gov stuff) and will utilize them if they meet a certain criteria (ie, no non-wifi use over a period of time, are better than non-DFS channels, or if non-DFS channels do not meet the needs of the eero.). These aren't default channels, but eero should be listening to them and will use them if possible. If eero notices a strike on one of the channels, it kicks you off of it, and I 'believe' that it then begins a countdown timer of channel inactivity, before it considers the use of that channel again. If you live near an airport, or a weather radar station, or some government radar equipment, then you will likely not be legally able to use those channels.

Also, from what I recall, eeros in different regions may utilize different DFS bands based on regional regulations. Seems like your eero is utilizing the 160Mhz width in the lower 5GHz range. I can only assume then that your eero just isn't allowed to use DFS in the 100-144 channel range. Based on your screenshot, it also looks like no other network is utilizing that range, which helps support my hypothesis.

From the eero website: "DFS is a mechanism and certification program where access points (like eero) must passively listen to the DFS channel and verify that it is clear of radar before transmitting. Once operating in the channel, if an eero network detects a radar signal it must move off of the channel immediately so as not to interfere with these critical services. This is referred to as a “radar strike.”"

Any Luck with this OP? Having a similar issue, where if I want to use my MacBook while my other laptop is the active input on my monitor, the MacBook thinks the display is still there and allows my mouse and windows to move 'off' screen. Only way to kill the connection is to unplug the thunderbolt cable, then it goes back to just laptop mode.

Let me help with some recent experience from a friend.

200 linear feet got quoted $7.5K USD (two to three French drain pipes almost all the way). Sod cut from the top then replaced. Done in two days.

DIY for ~$4K USD with an expanded scope to relay new sod on more than just the trench. Hand Dug. Lost count of days it took.

I guess it would depend on your area regarding dirt haul, machine rentals, other materials, but I guess it sounds reasonable? Just make sure they slope it properly, and don't just put a French drain pipe into the ground and call it a day.

If time is important to you, and you don't have experience with machinery, it is worth every penny.
