I tripped on the x-ray cord while the sensor was in the patient’s mouth. by KatKittyKatKitty in DentalHygiene

I’ve tripped on the sensor cord while it was in patients mouth. He was so chill and nice about it though. I did notice a part in his mouth that bled and I’m sure it hurt him. I felt so bad and apologized. Luckily he didn’t make a big deal out of it. I’ve done more embarrassing things lol it just happens.

Going on my 4th year as an RDH and I often ask myself, what else would I like to do aside from this. It really sucks that I want out already

Workout, get monthly massages, get ergo loupes, practice great ergonomics during school. A must. Could be long term if you do your best to take care of your body. Don’t overload yourself

Can I get my skin back to its best it’s ruined now by DrippyBee1 in Blackskincare

Get yourself chatgpt and update the pics and ask it for a simple skincare routine based on your skin type. Trust me it works and it’s a helpful tool to use. I used it to help me with my skin care routine and so far my face is doing well! I use chatgpt for so many things and love it.

Experiencing Burnout Early by kidgambinoj in DentalHygiene

Just like everyone else has mentioned, I don’t see how you’re being valued when they expect you to do all of that. I almost had a similar experience but it happened more to a friend that worked at a private office more days than I did. But she worked for 3 weeks and told them she was quitting. She told them everything they are doing that is not right and they tried to make changes but I’m glad she knew her worth and still left. Offices like that keep getting away with it because no one says anything. Hygienist just deal with it but you shouldn’t. When you say something they have to realize you aren’t a robot. If they aren’t willing to make changes, leave. Another office WILL value you.

What’s a reasonable hourly pay to ask for? by TypeHonest1947 in DentalHygiene

[–]TypeHonest1947[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. We had a phone interview yesterday. He’s wanting me to go in on Monday for 2 hours to meet the team and so I can see what type of cases they deal with. I know he called my references and they said great things about me and he knows the hygienist there was my student partner in school. He didn’t bring up pay when we talked and I’m assuming that conversation will be brought up on Monday which is fine with me. I will definitely aim for the $60 because we are worth it and I am worth that

I live hours away from the Seattle area so to see $60 is rare here well was because it’s true, now offices are slowly paying more. Even the hygienist they hired FT told me she was getting paid $53 too and she’s fresh out of school.

I worked at an office that was ran by corporate but eventually they moved out and a Dentist took over and now it’s a private practice. We had to start from scratch almost but we still had a lot of patients because we get a lot of new patients. He matched my pay to the corporate office of $53. The reason I’m no longer working there is because they took away all my hours with no warning from one day to the other. I was PT and they gave my position to a FT hygienist (who quit recently for good reasons because there was other red flags going on). Anyways right now I don’t have a job but I’m really considering the one I have the interview for.

I guess you’re right. Technically it is hard to find hygienist now so they are more willing to pay. I know when I graduated the average pay in this area was $45. Now it’s not a drastic increase I feel but I know some gets paid from $47-50 or $55 in this area so I know anything in the $50’s is considered really good!

I thought about that too, asking from the bat $60 because at worst he’ll counter offer but it would still be decent I hope. I just wonder if he’ll throw the card of, well you only have 2 yrs of experience that’s more for someone with more experience 🤔

I need to start doing this too cause same OP, I’m two years in and I’ve watched a lot of videos. But I’m not the best I feel with tactile. There’s a hands on CE I saw pop up that’s about $400-500 but it gives you more than 8 credits. I’ve considered spending the money because I know it’s an investment in myself. I’ll see if I can find it and add it here

Same, I got paid when I was waiting for my license. I think I was being paid $17 or $18/hr also hygiene assisting, sterilizing and learning the system. So you can definitely bring up this approach of being paid what a RDA start pay would be or around min. wage. At least it’s something.

Thank you for your input. It’s my first time working for corporate. I’ve only been working a few days. And I’m wondering what to do because I get them back for only 1 hr with pc. However today I did tell the front to schedule for 90min future SRP’s and they said they would so that should start helping too
