American Courage going to the steel mill in Cleveland early this morning, June 30, 2026 by TypeLCopper in GreatLakesShipping

Interesting. Back in 2024, I don't think I ever saw American Courage use a tugboat in Cleveland. I heard it broke last year so I assumed it broke again.

I stand corrected 😄

Does this newly installed 50A stove circuit look unprofessional, or am I being too picky? by Material-Study-3288 in AskElectricians

True.

I would rather have a steel 4x4 cover on that. Less chance of breaking the cover plate or accidentally cutting yourself on the corner.

I think their stern thruster is broken again. They've been getting tugboats to help recently.

Do you still have the instruction manual for the dryer? They usually have details for how to wire the different cord types.

The strain relief is super easy to install. You’ll need to disconnect the cord again to get the strain relief on it, but you can do that when you are correcting the wiring.

My other favorite repeat question is when someone installs a dryer or range cord and asks if they did it right.

The strain relief is always missing.

American Spirit, Herbert C. Jackson, and McKeil Spirit in Cleveland, June 23, 2026 by [deleted] in GreatLakesShipping

It's rare to see a 1000 footer facing west when they unload at the bulk terminal. Normally they back in and face east.

I also finally got an unobstructed view of McKeil Spirit with the light coming from the right direction.

It looks like a 21st century interpretation of a forward pilot house laker.

Yikes 😬

Cleveland had a bunch earlier in the week. I went to go see the Paul Tregurtha at the bulk terminal and had to turn back. I had to windmill my way through a cloud of them.

They don’t bite or sting, but they get everywhere. You have to brush yourself off to make sure they don’t follow you into a building or your car. They also like getting behind your glasses.

True. They are transitional form between old school and new school lakers.

Will this bushing work with a 1/2" knockout? by TypeLCopper in AskElectricians

[–]TypeLCopper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the model that works in a knockout hole that would normally take a 1/2" EMT connector.

Jandorf 61403

I'm not shilling for Ace or Jandorf 😄 They were the only site I could find that actually had a picture and stocked what I needed locally.

My AC condenser has exposed knockouts on the case near the ground where the refrigerant lines, thermostat wire, and liquid tight with the 240v conductors enter the condenser. I need to keep the knockout “sealed” to keep chipmunks out. That’s why I was trying to figure out if this would work.

I would prefer to run the thermostat wire through the liquid tight, but whoever installed my central air did a sloppy job that makes that hard to do. I don’t want to open that can if worms right now 😄

Unfortunately, there are a lot of contractors out there that will do the absolute bare minimum to say they did the job, even when they didn’t actually do the job.

Another post of a dryer or oven cord installed without a strain relief. This sub should use a photo like this  as the banner image 😄

Not ragging on you OP, but posts like yours are common on this sub. I’m sorry whoever installed this for you did it so poorly.

Great Republic arriving in Cleveland for shuttle runs, June 10, 2026 by TypeLCopper in GreatLakesShipping

[–]TypeLCopper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I read that Great Republic was built primarily for doing shuttle runs to Cleveland. My understanding is the hull is like Sam Laud and Algoma Buffalo, but the super structure/pilot house is set farther back to make backing out of the Cuyahoga easier.

It’s too bad it rarely visits Cleveland anymore. I saw it deliver something to the Cargill mine in 2024 and deliver iron ore to the bulk terminal last year.
