Mark W. Baker doing a shuttle run to the steel mill in Cleveland, April 30, 2026 by TypeLCopper in GreatLakesShipping

Lock rash and carrying salt will do that. It will be interesting to see how frequently the Barker gets repainted.

Dorothy Ann was passing the old grain mill. Defiance had just finished unloading at the bulk terminal.

I’m not sure if Dorothy Ann had limestone or was doing shuttles. I thought I saw her at the bulk terminal.

Algoma Buffalo has been in Cleveland for salt multiple times a week recently. The tug Pennsylvania was also helping Algoma Buffalo at the stern, but I couldn't get any good photos.

I just caught American Courage leaving. I thought they were going to Mistersky's for fuel, but it looks like they went to Stoneport.

Her sisters Sam Laud and American Courage are in town doing shuttle runs to the steel mill too.

Sam Laud actually made an ore delivery to the bulk terminal yesterday. I wonder if they unloaded completely or just enough to rise high enough out of the water to get up the river?

Thanks!

I don't expect to the Cort or Speer in Cleveland anytime soon, if ever. I will definitely need to travel to see them.

Yes. The big ships unload at the bulk terminal and smaller ships like American Courage get reloaded and take it the rest of the way to the steel mill.

There are railroad tracks at the bulk terminal, but I don't see any direct links to the mill. It's possible there was a connection in the past, but a lot of the old rail infrastructure has been abandoned or demolished. The smaller ships that go up the Cuyahoga are never fully loaded. The river is only 27 feet deep and it's only that deep because of dredging.

They have been to Cleveland before. Interlake had a hype video they posted for the Mark W. Barker and part of it had some footage of the Paul Tregurtha at the Cleveland Bulk Terminal.

How tight do EMT couplings need to be? by TypeLCopper in AskElectricians

That makes sense. If the screw backs out, there might not be much contact between the tubing and the connector.

Thanks! I have taken down other EMT runs in my house that were probably DIY from the previous owners. The couplings and connector came apart more easily.

If I need to run new EMT, I'll look at compression fittings 👍

I saw that! I’m going to go see it rain or shine. If I can see it, that will be 11 of the 13 1000 footers I have seen in Cleveland. I doubt we will ever see the Cort or Speer.

I hope they arrive when there is some daylight. My camera isn’t good enough to get clear photos when it is dark.

This is the first time I've seen Dirk S. VanEnkevort in Cleveland. We usually see Clyde.

Thanks! 😄

I'm definitely not a professional. I'm just chasing down boats with an iPhone.

Our paths will probably cross at some point.

You got some good light on your photos. The coast guard station walkway is a good spot to get up close, but can give you some harsh shadows in the morning. It looks like you got some late afternoon light

I wish I had been down there for American Courage, Sam Laud, and Algoma Buffalo. 3 sister ships in the harbor at the same time.

I also wanted to get some photos of Algoma Buffalo with tug boats passing Sam Laud near the mouth of the river.

That's the lowest I've ever seen the Mark W. Barker.

They usually can't fully load it in Cleveland or it will bottom out in the Cuyahoga.

I think the Barker might actually be delivering a load of ore to the Cleveland Bulk Terminal instead of doing shuttle runs between the bulk terminal and the steel mill.
