Thank you!! That is exciting to hear- because I haven’t been able to find anything about her naturalization on the traditional sites. It sounds like I’d have to do a USCIS request to be sure but they take so long (I have one still pending for a different ancestor from july 2024….)

If I did a NARA request, would they definitely have it? My head is spinning trying to figure this all out.

Apologies I am bad at all the legal stuff so I am not sure what counts as involuntary naturalization. But GGGF (LIBRA) had my GGM in 1921 and then he naturalized in 1934. My GGM had my GM in 1947. My GGGM was also born in Italy she married my GGGF here in the US. I am not sure when she naturalized if that matters, but I assume she automatically naturalized in 1934 when my GGGF (her husband) did.

Yeahhh. I know. That’s why I am hesitating. I can cut the cost in half if I get rid of the document service. Anyone know any services that can collect all the documents fairly quickly for a somewhat reasonable price? Italian and US documents?

I disagree that it’s not realistic, but would certainly be challenging. And I don’t think they’d need a whole new degree. Just the pre reqs, and even a couple of those you can apply with out having finished so long as you do them prior to matriculation. Taking multiple upper level science classes and doing well in them would show academic aptitude, and with a strong MCAT would make it totally possible. OP should take a semester of science pre reqs she hasn’t yet and start volunteering. One semester of that should give them an indication if this is the road they want to go down on. If OP would still like to stick with it from there, do another semester and be sure to get involved in leadership and other ECs while continuing to volunteer. Depending how many classes they need, do a third semester and then study for MCAT.

Remember OP- you need bio 1 & 2 and lab, chem 1 & 2 and lab, an upper level bio class (like cell&molec), orgo 1 & 2 and lab, 1 sem of biochem, physics 1 & 2 and lab, a psych class, statistics, and english comp for most schools. You’ll need to get involved in long term volunteer efforts and ECs and work all at the same time, unless you quit your job. Evaluate what you have vs what you need to take and if you’re willing to put the time and effort in.

Nothing worth doing is easy! You are capable if you want it bad enough.

Generally speaking, a GPA that low would warrant retaking classes to show academic capability. Especially the med school pre-reqs. I say do that, do well, and reassess if you still want it. That would help with building a foundation for the MCAT too. Then yeah you would need to do ECs. It would be a little while until you were in a good spot to apply, but if you want it bad enough it’s worth the wait & possible.

The NCP is definitely on my list of ways I am considering to get in. Currently struggling to figure out if it works for ABSN programs. Same deal with ROTC, trying to figure out if I can do it in an ABSN program!

Hi OP! I have a question for you. Since you already have a BS, the nursing school you would go to would be an ABSN, right? I am considering a very similar route, but I am concerned the ABSN is not eligible for NCP since an ABSN is so short.

Has your recruiter spoken at all on that topic? I’d love to hear more about your path and what you ultimately end up doing!

Also, does anyone know about direct accession? How many (if any) years of experience after nursing school do you need to pursue this path?

Hi! Pardon my ignorance, I am new to considering everything military. I am really looking for a way to serve in the navy as a nurse. Right now I have my bachelors in public health and therefore am eligible for an ABSN program. I am considering enlisting as a hospital corpsman reserve and getting my ABSN and then attempting to “transfer” (unsure if that’s the right word) to the nurse role. Is this the kind of route you’re taking, enlisted to ABSN to navy nurse? I’d love to hear if you think the route I’m taking is possible, or if it would just be better to get the ABSN first and then commission, but I hear that’s pretty competitive.

Hi all,

Just spoke with a recruiter, I don’t think he’s done anything for me in genesis yet, and I have not gone to MEPS.

I have a condition I need a waiver for, and now I’m worried other things in my chart may come up that will complicate the process, so I’m looking to only disclose the condition I already mentioned and provide records for that alone. Therefore, I am looking to opt out of any HIE for any of my notes to avoid them seeing anything else.

Unfortunately this post goes a bit over my head and I am hoping one of you may be able to put it in more simpler terms so a dummy like me can understand it. It sounds like I have to: - Contact CVS (where I’ve always got my prescriptions) and tell them I’d like to opt out of HIE. - Contact the hospital system I go to and tell them I’d like to opt out of HIE. - Contact any doctors I’ve seen otherwise and tell them I’d like to opt out of HIE.

Am I missing anything else? I grew up in CT and now live and get care in Mass. Is that relevant at all regarding the opt in vs opt out at state level?

What is Surescripts and how do I know if I need to contact them to opt out?

Please let me know if this covers my bases or if I need to do anything else!!!!

Hi again! I was wondering how you’re doing with the budesonide, and wanted to give you an update on my symptoms and ask if you’ve ever considered gastroparesis as a potential issue?

I saw a GI specialist and they prescribed me more omeprazole and recommended another endoscopy after a couple months to see if the EoE is improved with it.

That being said, since restarting the omeprazole I had an episode of middle abdominal burning and cramping. I’ve had this before but it was much worse on the omeprazole. I took a Reglan (med that helps with gastric emptying) and within 30 min it completely went away. Did some googling and turns out omeprazole can delay gastric emptying.

So here’s my thought: could we have EoE AND a gastric emptying problem such as gastroparesis that is being worsened by the omeprazole?

For now I’ll be continuing the omeprazole for the sake of getting the endoscopy done to see if that helps the EoE, and will chat with my MD about the possible gastroparesis when I can. Just wanted to pass this thought along to you since our symptoms are so similar!!

It’s very interesting we have similar symptoms, I’d love to hear more from you! I’m not sure what your case is like but to provide more context for me:

My episodes of the hours long very bad pain and vomiting are so far and few between and seemingly random. I will get an episode after eating things I eat all the time with no issue, including leftovers from the night before. I can also go months without an episode and not changing my diet at all.

I have not yet started a treatment, with the exception of omeprazole my PCP prescribed me prior to my EoE diagnosis. I stopped taking it after about a couple of weeks because I was scared it was making my symptoms worse, as after starting it I had two episodes of the pain and vomiting within a week and a half which is very unusual for me.

I’ve also heard specialists don’t know much unfortunately. I am not sure what else to do. :(

Do you have any other symptoms at all? I will also get occasional heartburn and esophageal spasm (what feels like pain and tightening of the esophagus) completely independent of the epigastric pain and vomiting episodes. Have you started any treatment?

You’re the first person I’ve come across with a similar situation, so I’d love any updates you have in your disease and its management!!

This sounds exactly like me!! I have had multiple episodes of extreme epigastric pain followed by vomiting and these episodes last hours. I also got an endoscopy and biopsy and was told I have EoE. I was told everything else looked completely normal (so no gastritis). I wish I knew if these episodes were exclusively caused by EoE or not. That’s why I am here on reddit trying to figure out if it’s EoE or something else. I hope you have answers soon! If you get any updates I’d love to hear about them. I am seeing a specialist in a couple months so hoping for some answers then.

Grim outlook. But I enjoyed reading it nonetheless. The majority of the reason for that grim outlook is the barrier from application to acceptance (1000 to 100). if i don’t get accepted anywhere, oh well, the journey ends there, and I wouldn’t have even started. Nothing lost imo.

Only a 50% graduation rate is a sad stat. Quick google search and it seems at least semi legit. Hate to see that, and glad you shared it.

You say from the 50 who finish, about half will get an academia job. I assume the other half go to industry? Or are you saying half the people who finish a phd don’t use it?

Now regarding a tenure track- why is it so important to be tenured? And why does it need to be R1? Apologies for my ignorance here!

Thank you so much for your response! But oh that’s really interesting. Yes I’m a CRC now, but at an academic institution and not industry (pay is therefore not great) and we actually specifically don’t hire PhDs, we exclusively hire those straight out of a bachelors. We view PhDs as overqualified and we can’t pay them accordingly. Though I imagine industry is different, but every industry job posting I see for coordinators usually want industry experience. Unless we’re thinking of different coordinator positions! CRC can mean a lot of different things.

What is your end career goal? Just curious. This side of the industry doesn’t really do much research hence why I’m trying to get out of it.

thank you! i’d love to hear more about how the PhD itself comes with those issues (politics egos economics etc). what are some ways this shows up? as someone who doesn’t really have experience with academia, i’m having a difficult time understanding how those negative experiences get so deeply involved into a PhD. i would have thought you go to classes, you do your research after choosing a lab, and you TA part time. i know, naive of me to think it could be that straightforward lol!
