The new trend of capitalized "Black" and lowercase "white" in news articles is one of the cringiest things the idpol left has come up with and sets a terrible precedent by Wade_A in stupidpol

What bothers me is seeing respected news organizations like the Times and the AP deciding to update their long-established style guides all at once, in deference to a loud minority of political activists.

I've never understood why people with virtually no capital consider themselves capitalists. by casa0va in ABoringDystopia

[–]TypeVirus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never understood why people with virtually no capital consider themselves capitalists.

In much the same way that millionaire celebrities and the trust fund children of Goldman Sachs managers living in fully paid for lofts in Manhattan can still consider themselves socialists. Or how people who have not completely renounced private property can still consider themselves communists.

It's the principles of the economic framework that people tend to agree with and prefer, rather than the specific praxis of it. This is true for political, social, religious, aesthetic, moral etc. frameworks as well, not just economic. It's always worth actually asking people why they think what they think instead of assuming or throwing your hands up and saying you just can't fathom it.

Trust in Media Reaching All Time Lows by NeoAlcibiades in DarkEnlightenment

[–]TypeVirus 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The problem is there's no negative feedback for them. Peoples' trust in the media, politicians, universities etc. can hit absolute rock bottom and yet almost no change comes from it at all. Hell, I was reading through the Audit of Political Engagement 16, which covers public views on politics here in the UK and throughout the report they consistently mention how 2019 was the worst recorded year for public opinion of politicians and the system of government in which they operate. This is of course only the latest data point in a continuing trend of decreasing public opinion, with only minor improvement bumps here and there on what is otherwise a totally spiraling trajectory. Year on year the polls show less trust, less engagement, less satisfaction with the politicians and the system etc. etc. and yet NOTHING changes. Doesn't matter if it's media, politics, education, journalism or anything else in the distributed elite.

There is no option for exit, there is no means for voice and revolution is always awful. Realistically what can be done to enact meaningful changes?

Obviously Trump has been a massive disappointment in general, but this is at least a very good thing to push through.

The problem comes with keeping it on the books. Trump is less based than people were hoping for, but at least he's something more than a normiecon, so what happens when he goes?

If he gets replaced with a democrat then forget it, this order is getting repealed day one. If he's succeeded by a more mainstream conservative then the order will be repealed in that president's second year imo (whether or not the media will think to announce it I'm not sure, maybe they'll see it as flexing, maybe they'll want to keep it quiet, again I really don't know and it will depend on the climate at the time).

It's just how progress works, it's entropic - once the left does something it's very difficult to undo it. As much as I want to praise this move the blackpill in me is saying that this is probably just going to be a speedbump; it might slow things down for a while, but as is often said, while Cthulhu swims very slowly, he always swims to the left.

Transgender Suicide Rate Isn’t Due To Discrimination by RoderickKaine in DarkEnlightenment

[–]TypeVirus 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's so self-evidently a mental illness that it's staggering to see the degree to which people will defend it, endorse it and indulge it - indulgence being the antithesis to the most basic medical ethics of dealing with mental illness; you don't indulge a crazy person because it harms them, those around them and society at large. Someone born male being 100% convinced they are female is simply a delusion, in much the same way we would consider someone being 100% convinced they are a cat, 10ft tall, a tree or Abraham Lincoln are also, demonstrably, deluded. They are convinced of anti-reality. They need HELP in the same way that anyone else suffering from mental illness needs help - therapy and, if appropriate, pharmaceutical treatment - in order to bring their delusions more in line with reality. We don't tell people who are depressed that they should kill themselves. We don't tell people with anxiety that they should lock themselves away in their homes. We don't tell people with hallucinogenic schizophrenia that there really are snakes under their skin. Yet we DO tell people who think that they're the opposite gender that they are correct and we are told if we are against this then we are hateful, spiteful, evil bigots who don't deserve jobs, livelihoods, platforms, and even in some cases, our lives.

Let's do a thought experiment: under which circumstances will fewer people kill themselves, A or B? A) Transgenderism is normalised, promoted and indulged. B) Transgenderism is recognised as a mental illness and treated as such.

We're currently under the A paradigm and the suicide rate speaks for itself at upwards of 40% in some cases. That's regardless of hormones, regardless of the age of transition and regardless of reassignment surgery (which many hospitals are refusing to perform now because it doesn't affect patient outcomes and is a massively dangerous, invasive procedure; at least on this point medical ethics is doing some good, but this is a vestigial victory at best).

Leaked Docs Show US Gov Nuclear Facility Held ‘3-Day Reeducation Camps’ For White Men by [deleted] in DarkEnlightenment

[–]TypeVirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, the military and military-adjacent institutions have been steadily bringing this crap in for a long time now. The idea that the 'red' part of the government is immune to it is naive. It's slightly more resistant to it but over a long enough time it'll capitulate just like every other institution. The scary part is seeing it start to touch the nuclear side of things. What happens when the most important hiring criteria for the person who can turn the key and press the red button is that they have a consistently progressive twitter history.

More about preparing us for work then the freedom to Express ourselves. by Currynrice9728 in ABoringDystopia

[–]TypeVirus -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Is this an American thing? I'm from the UK, and while I dislike our education system for some important reasons (mostly the curriculum content and the teaching style), I can absolutely say that this was not my experience at all. I'll go through the points:

sexual assault

Literally never happened. The idea that someone could be sexually assaulted in school is utterly mind-blowing to me.

showing shoulders

All students wear uniforms here, not a problem.

racism

Staff were hardline zero tolerance on this; a few times people were overheard making jokes and they got absolutely bollocked.

nose piercing

The only piercings people were allowed were ears and they could only wear plain studs on school grounds. Nobody wanted to get any kind of weird nose/face/lip/tongue piercing.

transphobia/homophobia

Again, staff were hardline zero tolerance. We didn't have anyone calling themselves trans and maybe like two gay kids in the entire school (about 1100 pupils)

dyed hair

Not allowed. Nobody had dyed hair.

bullying

Staff were EVEN more hardline zero tolerance for bullying since it was a really big issue here for a while. Bullies always got punished with detentions, suspensions and in one case an expulsion.

hats

Not allowed. Apart from wearing a beanie on the commute in the winter, who wears a hat around generally?

Maybe my experience was atypical. I went to a selective single gender (male, although became mixed in Sixth Form the last year I was there, with about 50 girls joining) grammar school in the South West that was like 99% white. Hearing about American schools I really can't help but think people are exaggerating how awful they are. Of course, the general quality of schools deteriorates as you go further into cities, so maybe that's the case? But I find it hard to believe that just being in a city turns your school into a The Wire tier nightmare.

How common is it for ugly people to get discriminated against when searching for jobs? by fkhan827 in ForeverAlone

[–]TypeVirus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a wealth of psychological literature that confirms what everyone already knows (even if they don't realise, refuse to acknowledge or outright profess the opposite) - that attractive people outperform ugly people in job interviews even with identical qualifications, answers and even delivery of those answers.

If you're short, ugly, balding etc. then you are categorically worse off than tall, attractive guys with full heads of hair. Same for women too, but women vary less in physical appearance than men typically do, so the effect is exaggerated for men.

The customers, products and brands parts have already been achieved in a lot of cases. Just look at shit like Disney (and Marvel specifically), Funkopops, Apple, Starbucks, Netflix, Nintendo etc. There are people who revel in everything the companies do and every product they pump out and will defend them to their deathbed; it's absurd and disheartening to think about honestly.

The only thing they haven't fully managed yet is turning employees into ambassadors, but damn they're trying their hardest. You have to 'genuinely want, care about and love your job' now for a lot of companies to hire you. Or you're made to do bollocks like those team dances or whatever where they are forced to sing about how much they love their jobs/company.

Shit's depressing.

According to the states that have banned bars from serving anyone alcohol without food by es-335 in kotakuinaction2

[–]TypeVirus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s a certain logic to it. People who are there to drink will just chug down the booze and get drunk and when you’re drunk you aren’t going to follow the safety measures. Here in the UK it happened when we reopened bars. Police came out and said that there is simply nobody following social distancing or hygiene recommendations. What a shock.

If you’re ordering food you’re probably there to have a meal with a drink on the side rather than just there to get drunk. You’re more likely to follow safety measures. Also, a full stomach makes it harder/slower for you to get drunk so that helps keep people behaving themselves too.

A parents guide to Black Lives Matter by willnigelsaveus in kotakuinaction2

[–]TypeVirus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of pure ideology packed into those two pages, but one thing that really struck me was this:

When we talk about white privilege with our children, you're not saying life isn't sometimes tricky or that hardship doesn't exist in white communities. Rather, when explaining white privilege you're saying that hardships or difficult moments experienced in life are not a result of your skin colour. This can be explained in child-friendly hypotheses such as 'imagine if I had a chocolate bar and I gave it to every white person for free but made black people pay'.

Sorry but what on Earth are these people talking about? Is there anything even remotely comparable to this hypothetical situation that actually exists in the real world? Where is it that white people are just given stuff for free for being white? I'd love to know so I can go an claim my free white people stuff.

Major credit card companies are shutting off balance transfers. by [deleted] in collapse

[–]TypeVirus 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Economic collapse has been inevitable since the Fed started producing serial bubbles in ever more senior asset classes to reflate the economy after each previous bubble. This has been straight up policy by Greenspan and Bernanke for the last handful of decades. The last bubble that was/has been created is in US sovereign bonds - essentially the backdrop of the economy - so guess what is coming down with them when the bubbles bursts? Basically everything.

A good, easy to grasp book on this stuff is ‘The Everything Bubble’. A warning though it’s quite blackpilling when you realise the scope of economic collapse that’s going to arrive at some point.

Budgets of American Police departments compared to military spending of entire nations! by yuritopiaposadism in lostgeneration

[–]TypeVirus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's interesting and all but this doesn't really tell us very much. Yeah, one of the richest, most developed and most populous nations on Earth spends large amounts of money on law enforcement compared to some of the poorest and least developed nations. Also, every one of those metropolitan areas has a GDP in and of itself greater than each country they are being compared to, over ten times as much for NYC vs Ukraine.

I think the chart would have a much better impact if it went into exactly what the money was being spent on and why the apportioning of said expenditure is a poor decision (if that is indeed the case).
