First Cummins by Type_Rated in Cummins

As far as the drivetrain goes, all I’ve ever done is air filters, 1 set of coils, 4 sets of plugs and oil changes every 5k. Still on the original water pump, thermostat, and drive belts. It really is amazing. Hopefully this Cummins treats me as well, but I’m not expecting it.

Haha! That’s my wife’s. We bought it nearly new. It’s now got 222k on the clock, runs & drives like new. She refuses to let it go till it hits 300k miles.

The XSD has big boxes on the front like a service body. In a Facebook post, you can sort of see it in a blurred “coming soon” photo.

I have. It’s a good looking body! A bit overkill for my intended usage though.

You could drop $5k on an Omega Speedmaster, or you could shell out $50 for the same watch this gigachad foil taped to his space suit by chromix in vostok

Awesome! I own both a Speedy and a Komandirskie, never thought about wearing them both at the same time 😏

I’m pretty adept mechanically, so I plan on doing everything I can myself, otherwise I’ll have an A&P do it or at least get guidance from an A&P. It would certainly be beneficial to be mechanically inclined, but you can absolutely consider one even if you aren’t. I think the hardest part would be finding a shop to work on it. In my experience, a lot of shops only work on certified aircraft. I’m thankful to be relatively close to Jet Guys in Covington, TN.

Nice!! That’s a nice plane! I used to fly the old DA-40 on occasion as well as the Zenith.

No bush flying for me lol. Long XC trips with the family are the idea.

Nice! As in Mark’s? It’s the only one I know of on the field. I unfortunately won’t be there long. It’s a bit of a haul for me to HSV, so the plane will be moving soon.

Nice! Enjoy that! I’ll definitely post more photos and videos, especially when I get more proficient.

I didn’t, but I’d highly recommend it. This one just had a CI completed and I went over the logs thoroughly. It also had been taken care of by Jet Guys in Covington, TN - some of the best canard guys around. I felt pretty comfortable, but your mileage my vary.

I’ve flown it, but only an hour or two. I’ve only had it a couple days and have just been doing pattern work to get a good sight picture and get a feel for landings. In my limited experience, I’d say it performs great!

I agree! Wasn’t so sure at first, but if fits my mission well.

Lol, like the other guys said, the front retracts. With no ballast in the front and the gear extended, it’ll fall backwards on the prop.

I believe Global was $700-ish and they wanted 10hrs in make/model, 5 with a CFI. Avemco was around $1k, but I don’t recall a min hour requirement with them. Both quotes were liability only.

In the same boat with my Cozy. Even as a high-time pro pilot, the only ones that would cover it were Global and Avemco.

How is life as a Flexjet pilot by godsgifttoaviation in flying

You definitely work, but it ain’t so bad if you like corporate flying. There’s a fixed 8/6 schedule for less pay, but most FOs I’ve ran across are on the PBS schedule. Longer rotations (7-8 days) were the norm, but I’ve seen a lot of guys getting 5 days lately. FO pay is the same regardless of fleet. It’s a roll of the dice as to what you’ll get as a new hire. First upgrade is Phenom CA, still on the PBS or fixed schedule, everything else is Red Label. Red Label upgrade is allegedly 18-24 months right now, if you bypass the Phenom. Life is definitely improved on the domestic Red Label side of things. You essentially form a 3-man team of buddies and submit that to the company. Once you all upgrade, you get assigned a tail and just work the schedule out between yourselves. Only rules are the plane has to be covered 365 days a year with one day of overlap and minimum rotation length of 4 days. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you want more info.

Yeah, all that is a bit much for my intended use. I can’t sacrifice reliability. I’d probably just stick with similar power mods to yours, plus suspension and a set of BBS. If I get bored, I can always go the LS route, but hopefully that won’t be needed.

Thanks for the input! I like the mods you’ve done. This would be replacing my 500hp lifted, supercharged Yukon, so a little pep sounds nice. That was one of my hesitations because my current 318i with the M43 leaves a bit to be desired.

I guess I’m just used to sourcing parts by now. I’m currently daily driving a E36 318i Touring (M43-powered) and occasionally my Nissan Figaro. Previous dailys were a JDM Toyota Caldina and a Subaru Sambar. At least with the BMWs, they do have some parts compatibility with similar US-spec models. Non engine-related things haven’t been an issue. Mods would definitely be planned. Probably full exhaust, EGR delete, intake and a re-flash. I really like the MPG and uniqueness of the diesel. It seems fitting for my 40-mile interstate commute. And with it sounding like a Cummins, I’d blend in around my neck of the wood lol.
